It's not mid or deep vintage (like my sample from the camel), but so far the only difference is a slight shift towards more green and leather, making it more like a cross between Balenciaga Ho Hang and a smoother, more buttery and less-rosy Chanel No. 19. I actually think I like this better than the older vintage sample I got.

100ml splash bottle of vintage Cuir de Russie EDT, 8 oz bottle of Cuir Cannage, and a 1 oz bottle of vintage Vol de Nuit bath oil.

I am now officially penniless. But man, do I smell good.

Kerleo at his sublime best. Definitely a nod towards Prive with this one even though they represent different genres.

    Do these qualify as vintage?
    Older versions in any event.

Ma Liberté is, supposedly, the closest thing out there to vintage Patou Pour Homme Prive, with "one extra floral note" added - I'm guessing it's the heliotrope, which I am detecting clearly in this one, but do not see in Patou notes.

Mixed feelings here. On one hand, it's undeniably very well made fragrance, a true vintage classic - like they don't make anymore. But that's its downfall too - it does feel a bit dated and out of place now, at least to me. It's weird to learn it was released in 1987 - it feels much older than that. And if this is "95% Patou PH Prive" - then I really don't get the hype for Patou Prive at all - maybe at $200-$300 a bottle, sure, for a bit of old school, super-vintage nostalgia, but $3000 for 90ml - no way in hell it's worth this much. Ma Liberté is good to very good (for a vintage, and if you like vintage fragrances) but it's no holy grail material, and by extension - completely killed my desire to seek Patou PH Prive, at any price point.

Serge is the most prolific one in my collection by far - I've got 12 or 13 bottles! I tried Chypre Rouge and wasn't too keen on it, but sadly never had the chance to try Arabie.

The oldest bottles in my collection are A La Nuit and Muscs Koublai Khan. I'd also love to get my hand on a vintage bottle of Fleurs d'Oranger as the newer ones lack the cumin that give it that animalic undertone.

The drydown of CR is gorgeous, perhaps a bit feminine to my nose, but still excellent for me to wear.
Arabie is stellar, top to bottom.
I'll look for Fleurs d'Oranger (vintage).
    Thanks for the recommendation.

Aw, you're so sweet, purecaramel! I got the VdN oil today and am disappointed. :-( It smells way too much like Shalimar in the dry down. And I am (unlike most) not a fan of Shalimar.

The beastie arrived today. I had a mini panic because the packaging reeks like some floriental Incredible Hulk (think Poison, or something like it), and I thought it was coming from the bottle somehow!

Thankfully, I opened it and dabbed some on, and sure enough, it's Yatagan. Phew! Must have been a spillage mishap at some point.

I'll have to do a side-by-side with the current formula tonight!

Best guess as to the age of this bottle?

I can't find a batch code anywhere, but based on this guide, the absence of an address or barcode (EMB code instead, which went into use in 1978, replaced by barcodes in 1989) on the box automatically dates it to pre-1990.

So mid-80s is probably a good ballpark.

Trying to ascertain the date. Any ideas?
The box has no Green Dot or ingredients. Has a barcode.
Batch code is 8618. From rotls it would mean feb1990. But Egoiste was released in April 1990.
    Any takers?

It wouldn't surprise me if production began some months in advance of the official release. But I would have guessed Egoiste was still being called "L'Egoiste" this early in its run. Whatever the reason for the change, it seems to have happened really early.

Just read this review of Arabie: "On me, this lovely opens with a fresh burst of candied Christmas orange and spicy clove and dries down to a sweet and fluffy fruited incense. The fruit here is never fresh; it is dense and dry. But it is still very pretty and refreshing, with dates and candied orange peels being the most prominent. The benzoin and myrrh and tonka come to the fore in the dry down, creating a near religious effect, which I absolutely adore. This fragrance is like walking into a warm church stuffed with fruitcake on a cold Christmas morning. "

That is why I am a bit puzzled. If it truly is Feb 1990 it should have been legoiste. But given no Green Dot and no ingredients it can't be 1998.
