Default Sauf Contre Bombarde 32 - Anyone tried it?

I just got an email from LuckyScent this morning, they're now stocking Sauf fragrances. Sauf is apparently a spin-off from the creator of Unum.

I'm specifically interested in Contre Bombarde 32, has anyone tried it that can share their experiences? Thanks!

I instantly emailed them when i saw an article about this line couple weeks ago. The shipping for some tiny samples is like 40 euros so i bailed out. I'm very interested in this line as well. All these series seem to be inspired by incense. I'll wait until First In Fragrance stocks up on samples.

I was thinking of blind buying but wanted to check with BN'ers first. I thought LAVS was nice, but too similar to a dozen other fragrances with the woody-incense-amber signature. I will say thought, it was made with quality materials. It does seem at least from Claire's review that Contre Bombarde 32 is much different and better put together.

LAVS did nothing to me as well. I would order samples first if i were you, too bad Luckyscent doesn't ship to here, so in my case i'll just wait for First in Fragrance.

Have free samples of this line in transit with purchases I have made recently at Luckyscent. Interested in seeing what this house is like.

Well, I hope this one smells decent at least. I did the ole blind buy. I haven't done one in a while and was feeling the itch. I'll report back on this one in a week or so when I get my package from LuckyScent.

The Contre Bombarde is actually a 32-feet pipe organ (pedal division) stop of the Liverpool Cathedral organ, and maybe some other organs. Profoundly deep-sounding.

I really must get this frag, as it ties together two of my greatest passions.

    edit:

I just read up on the frag and, indeed, it is organ inspired, including the stop-knob shape of the bottle cap. Must pursue this series.

Yes, the bottle designs and fragrances are inspired by organs. Bottles look really cool, hoping the fragrance matches.

Sauf Contre Bombarde 32 is from the creator of UNUM fragrances in Italy. These painted bottles are designed with inspiration from church organs, CB 32 specifically, Notre Dame de Paris. I've always wanted to visit Paris, but that urge has faded over the years, along with my ability to speak even the most broken of French. This brings you to Notre Dame de Paris without having to be there in the physical realm.

Contre Bombarde 32 is very good; it's a combination of dusty, dry and resinous wood over a warm amber base. Somewhat along the same lines as April Aromatics Calling all Angels. There's bright elemi in the opening followed by a Tom Ford-esque (Amber Absolute) like warm amber, just not nearly as nuclear as it's toned down to more tolerable levels. A nice sandalwood and cedar that lies in the base, which is intertwined with the rich amber accords and a light whisper of vanilla. The result is a very nice resinous woody-amber without the overbearing cloying and/or gourmand qualities that accompany so many fragrances within the genre.

I know this will be brought up...but no I don't find this redundant as I do own Amber Absolute and a number of other amber and incense fragrances. This fits right into my lineup. The warm woody qualities couple with amber really make this fragrance more fitting for cooler months...although people like me will wear a spray or two year round.

Thanks for the review. I LOVE Calling all angels but i'm no fan of the dark amber in Amber Absolute at all, actually I'm not a fan of Amber Absolute in general. I prefer my amber bright like Akkad or Grand Soir.

But this seems like a must sample for me.

Edit: After reading your description again, this seems very similar to Lubin Akkad. Have you tried it ?

I have never tried Akkad, but I will say that the amber base in CB 32 is much more subdued than Amber Absolute which is a fragrance I really have to be in the mood for with the syrupy cloying properties of the amber in AA. CB 32 is everything I enjoy about the Tom Ford with added notes of incense, sandalwood and cedar. For me it's a hit.

My sample of this just arrived today and from a tiny spray in the elbow I started getting LADDM flashbacks. Whilst its not a clone the heavy amber and cedar interplay is most certainly familiar, especially in the opening. Even though there is no coriander listed it feels like there is some in there but sweatier than Tauers rendition if that makes any sense. The caramel makes it a lot sweeter/creamier but it has nowhere near the complexity or depth of LADDM although the transition into vanilla/elemi territory is nice.

Good longevity and heavy trails but too similar to the Tauer offering for me.

How would you describe it in comparison with LAVS and Bois d'Ascese?

Not remotely close to either. Two incense fragrances 1. LAVS which is a churchy type bolstered by C12 MNA 2. Bois d'Ascese which is smoky incense and oakmoss.

Sauf Contre Bombarde 32 is an amber-vanilla fragrance not comparable to either LAVS or Bois d'Ascese IMO. Resinous notes in CB 32 are more subdued and definitely overpowered by the heavier amber vibe.

I was under impression it was mainly incense fragrance like the two I mentioned. Interesting stuff, thanks!

Just wanted to bump the Sauf subject again as I’ve been into my samples lately. The CB is a bit similar to LDDM in the dry down, but getting there is more of an adventure, with a nice woody/incense/ slightly dirty gourmand thing going on. I really like Plein Jeu though! To me it’s a sweeter Avignon type incense that lasts a long time on me. Looking to get a FB! Any more thoughts on these or other Sauf offerings?

It reminds me of Xerjoff Zefiro quite a bit. It's nice but not anything groundbreaking.

I was admiring these bottles just a couple of days ago. I read over the notes of most of them, but nothing jumped out at me. From what I remember, Contra Bombarde has the most buzz.
