Default If Paul the Apostle where to have worn a fragrance, what would it be?

I want a fragrance that captures Paul the Apostle.

I have searched but have yet to find one that captures this idea I have in my head.

In short, the Apostle Paul is a writer of letters, a man who conducted missionary journeys in the First Century that took him to Asia Minor, Syria, Greece, Italy, Spain, Britain, and shipwreck in the Mediterranean. He evangelizes countless cities along with spending many years in prison.
As Frankincense and Myrrh is associated with Christianity, I think of these notes. But, I want a scent that captures a man living in the First Century, traveling very much by foot through desert lands with nothing but a knapsack. Maybe an Oud, an Incense, a Patchouli?

Ultimately, the question is, what would a man who journeyed through these vast lands wear, a man who is at times hermetic, without a doubt mystical, yet humble?

Thank you in advance for any recommendations.

"WERE". I know the difference between "where" and "were", fibbed in the title!

    Perhaps "Heaven" by Chopard?

Back in 2000 I walked a portion of the Camino de Santiago, not so much as a pilgrim but a tourist and afforded myself the luxury of wearing Messe de Minuit26121087.jpg. Now, it may seem like a contradiction to participate even superficially in a centuries old ritual wearing such a conspicuous expression of modern consumer culture but upon entering the cathedral at Compostela it struck me as entirely appropriate - not wearing a perfume per se, but Duchaufour's particular creation, with it's myrrh, incense, labdanum and patchouli, does capture a mediaeval reverence that is echoed in the Gothic vaulted nave of Compostela.

Such architectural splendor edifying Christ would have been unknown to St. Paul but what might have been familiar to the apostle would be the smell of the botafumeiro, incense having been used in Christian worship since antiquity.

Another scent that I think certainly evokes gravitas and literal earthiness is L'Air du Desert Marocain26125572-883.jpg; it's haunting resinous amber smells like hearing a truth that one subsequently cannot forget.

Maybe also Angelique Encens- a fragrance both with a certain religious connotation and an undeniable presence, "supporting structure" of incense

According to the Mormons, probably Florida Water. Because Jesus was from Missouri and Paul was a sharp-shootin' alligator wrangler...or something like that.

I have a great story about this.

My in-laws attend a very conservative church in KY. Women couldn't wear pants to church until couple of years ago (although jean skirts that just barely covered the panties were A-OK).

Women can't be deacons or pray in church, because duh, but they can make prayer requests and announce stuff.

So my MiL was telling me about this other church in her town which is "just SO conservative," where the women can't talk at all, including at meetings.

So they were planning something or other, and the men were planning a time poorly because all of them had forgotten about Daylight Savings Time. And the women were sitting there in the business meeting, knowing all about it, but not allowed to, you know, SAY anything until after the meeting.

    Because them's the rules.

LOL! That story cracks me up!

I'm a fairly "orthodox" Christian in my beliefs and it amazes me as to how many people missed so much of very clear Biblical text...and context...but I'm a woman, so what would I know

I also would have suggested Sahara Noir - Pretty much perfect for that area of the world and the materials used are perfect for the things available for people in those times

Sahara Noir's a good desert-y incense smell. I've been wearing Terenzi's Laudano Nero, which has just the right amount of funk and frankinsence to fit the theme of the thread. But why would a well-travelled bible boy want to smell like church? After all that time wandering around the sunnier coasts of Southern Europe, Paul may have enjoyed the citrus zing of Colonia or even the Pine-y sophisto-bro of Costa Azzura. But given he did a bunch of walking in dusty sandals, and probably couldn't afford Tom Ford, since this is in the pre-discounter days, how about Terre d'Hermès? The blasphemous name not-with-standing.

Perhaps Heeley's Phoenicia: An imaginary journey in the Antique Phoenicia, at its peak in 1000 BC. Inspired by this region of the Mediterranean coast, the notes makes us travel from Lebanon to Andalusia, passing by North Africa, Cyprus and Israel.

A friend once said that I resembled the Sanguine figure of Durer's John the Evangelist in the Four Apostles therefore I would say look to my wardrobe for your answer. I would offer that "Habit Rouge" Vintage of course, could fit quite nicely.

For Paul I would offer that Amouage Opus Vl with it's Vibrant and Striking Frankincense cutting presence.

When I think of stories from that part of the Bible I think of frankincense and myrrh. Maybe he wore something from Amouage, on special occasions.

I could vision this, especially as Heeley has interwoven a Whisper of Cardinalian Frankincense throughout.
