FYI, I believe only the owner of the site can actually add the fragrances to the directory. I have found sometimes it takes over 6 months for him to update and even then there are some that have never been added even though I submitted them.

I think it’s been a long time since we’ve received an update about the promised site infrastructure/UX being updated as well. Given the economy, I have a feeling it will never happen. The site will limp along “Not Secure” and out of date until the subscriptions and advertising no longer pays for the hosting costs and then it will go away. This is just my speculation. And don’t get me wrong, I love this site, but I feel Grant has failed to keep his audience honestly informed.

Oh, sorry, I didn't know that. I read in a thread that now users can add fragrances on their own, so I decided to give it a try. I was just trying to keep track of the fragrances I had tried. Unfortunately other sites don't offer this option. I really like the idea of having a list of decants, as once it goes over a hundred or two, it's hard to follow.

Definitely understandable. Do you know what that thread is? It’s possible I may have missed a new policy, but I haven’t heard about that.

You can add tags to a fragrance. You can create a tag titled 'decants', and then add fragrances to that tag to have a list.

Thank you, that's an interesting idea! The way it is (multiple lists like tried / have a sample / testlist) already kinda works for me. Other sites don't have these options.

Yup, the link in that thread is the same one as the one on page 1 of this thread and I have been submitting to without luck for some time now, so nothing new, unfortunately.

ZC, you mentioned directly contacting "staff" about getting "particularly pressing" fragrances added. Is that Furrypine or someone else? Also, not sure my idea of "pressing" is the same as someone else's, so any guidelines there? Thanks!

So what I'm asking now is that someone add Dior Homme 2011. version in the directory. There are 3 versions of this fragrance and 3 versions of Dior Homme Intense. Namely 2005.,2011. and 2020. Also the 2005. version picture needs an update. The current picture in the directory is the 2011. version pic.

With all due big respect to Basenote, but this threat is - in hard word - absolutely useless!
    Why that?

There is almost nothing about, even important additions!

    Me too, 24 Faubourg!

Well, because my knowledge gained over 50 years does not only concern the modern scents of today!

That means, real knowledge and sources - without Google blabla - is no longer needed!

I agree. I'm all for giving love to obscure niches and artisanal perfumers (especially ones a part of the Basenotes population, as it's effectively giving validation to the work of supporters), but the tendency to ignore larger designer or masstige releases getting talked about elsewhere sorta makes the problem of WHY they're getting talked about elsewhere more and more but not here worse. We still do want traffic here right?

Valentino Born in Roma (2019) still not added
Eternity for Men Eau de Parfum (2019) still not added and adding insult to injury having the EdT entry using the photo of the EdP
Atomic Rose by Intio (2019) still not added
Tom Ford Beau de Jour [Signature] (2020) still not added
Moschino Toy Boy (2020) still not added
Art of Shaving Bourbon Amber Cologne Intense (2019) still not added

I love you guys really I do, but how sustainable is a site where the focus is on "They don't make'em like they used to and never will so what's the use?", "which batch code of this established fragrance wears best?", "What mega macho manly man smells women should never ever wear" or "I hate X popular/expensive brand"?

I've spent enough time in old VFW halls, old Sears, and old Denny's restaurants (that all eventually closed) to know you really don't want to focus on just the conservative establishment or hardcore guru types. They deserve representation in the directory too but in the case of the establishment, they already have it with all the 20th century stuff, while the hardcore guru types are only gonna talk about the same 2 or 3 indie brands and never leave that footprint either in the forums or directory. Also if this describes someone, no insult meant, live and let live, just making a point.

You gotta throw strangers a mass-appeal bone once in a while or you'll be counting your days, and nobody wants that, even the establishment types! Where else are they going to endlessly complain about Dior Sauvage and the loss of oakmoss or praise their lifelong favorites if not here? There's also an amazing DIY community here that ends up producing some of the very same artisanal houses I mentioned above (PK Perfumes, Rogue, Madhat etc) and we want to continue giving them a platform right? I say this with the upmost respect and friendship because you've allowed me to make this place a home away from the tribulations of everyday life.

I hope someone finds a way to make directory updates a shared responsibility, or even maybe allow users to fully fill out the page details so all someone has to do is hit "approve" like with the reviews, because then this problem would solve itself. It's awesome seeing niche, artisanal and vintage releases being the focus here, but ignoring the major releases being added to the directory (or sloughing them off to the exteme) is to risk taking the bedrock away in favor of adding a floor to the house. Ever play Jenga? Jus' sayin' guys!

    Thanks for reading <3
