    Default Advice on something fresh...

I've currently got a fairly broad collection of a limited style of fragrance - heavy on orientals, woods and spices; mostly unisex fragrances with a few old-school Guerlain feminines - pretty much everything I have would be considered a cool weather or evening frag.
I'd like to find something light and fresh for the spring and summer - I'm not into heavily sweet or sticky scents, I prefer florals to fruits, generally. I don't mind an indolic edge if it's balanced, but certainly nothing as dense as a jasmine soliflore. And - anything which has even a whiff of that tuberose-bubblegum for the merest second is out - I sadly ruled out DL Datura Noir on that basis. Also, not into sporty, ozonic fragrances. I had a decant of Eau de Shalimar recently and if that hadn't been discontinued, it'd be perfect - loved the sparkling lemon sherbert opening and the lightweight woodsy florals on drydown. Help me out, here - the femme thing isn't at all my strong suit! 🙂

Oh. And longevity is important. If it wasn't for poor performance on my skin, 4160 Tuesdays Tokyo Spring Blossom would fit the bill perfectly. Love that stuff, but it's vanished without trace after 2 hours.

How do you feel about green scents? I like Ninfeo Mio a lot and it's very summery. Or Vetiver Fatale? It's only 'fruity' by vetiver standards; definitely no bubblegum.

I do love vetiver... I got some Timbuktu recently. Lovely, but I'm looking for something more femme and with better longevity. Stash by SJP has been a recent surprise on the vetiver front.

Ninféo Mio sounds interesting. I'll give the Vetiver Fatale a try, but suspect that might be a little more masculine than I'm aiming for this time.

Someone on BN describes YSL Y as like a 'phantom Mitsouko'. Yes! My Mitsouko EDT is lovely and light but...longevity issues.

Malle Eau de Magnolia is very fresh, citrusy and floral, at times it recalls vintage Diorissimo (but clean, without Diorissimo's civet).

My favorite fresh floral is Paco Rabanne Metal, greenish and light floral. It has sadly been discontinued, but is easy to find and not expensive on ebay and the like.

@cacio - PR Metal sounds interesting and underappreciated. The Malle Magnolia is one I've been considering getting a decant of for a while - one of several FMs I'll get around to sampling at some point. Thanks for the tips!

I nearly said Métal, it is lovely and I got a couple of sealed bottles cheaply on ebay recently. Not keen on FM Magnolia personally; I found it a bit harsh.

If sillage and longevity are important in a fresh fragrance, look no further than the (overpriced!!!) Aqua Universalis Forte by Maison Francis Kurkdjian.

I think Cristalle and Cristalle Eau Verte are great, but they might not be long lasting enough.

Was Eau de Shalimar discontinued? I know Eau Legere is long gone. Is Cristalle in EDP a possibility? Still so impossibly beautiful to me.

I think what you need is some MFK stuff. They are femme, smooth, excellent longevity.

I second teardrops's reccommandation for Aqua Univerdalis Forte and add Le Beau Parfum, APOM femme and Aqua Celestia.

@MrsDalloway Bianca Jagger in a cocaine-fuelled romp with Travolta and Pacino in the VIP lounge of Studio 54 circa 1976? I think Black Narcissus may have made a sale there! 😉

Ok then maybe some Guerlain Aqua Allegoria? But I'm not very familiar with them all, maybe someone else might chime in.
Or My Burrberry? Or Narciso edp white cube? If you don't mind some femme slightly quirky gardenia. Very good, though!

@verona I've been meaning to try the Narciso. I used to wear For Her EDT many years ago. Something else always beats it to my wrists when I'm in a store. I'll make it a priority next time - good tip!

I understand the current incarnation of Eau de Shalimar is Shalimar Cologne. I smelled it briefly at launch and I remember it being very similar:

If you liked Eau de Shalimar, I'd second teardrop's recommendation of Chanel no. 5 Eau Premiere.

In between reading these posts I dipped into FragranceX and bought a tester bottle of Eau de Shalimar...my current one has only 20 mls left. Thank you for the prompt Miss Hesta Jones, I layer it with Shalimar Eau de Cologne in summer and it is a very humid, rainy summer's day here in Auckland.

@chypre Right, that's defo the Chanel on the test list! Since we've been talking so much about the Eau de Shalimar, I'm craving the lemon sherbert hit, though!

Sounds like the Shalimar Cologne is a rerelease of Eau Legere rather than Eau de Shalimar. Got to be worth a shot, though. As much as I love the drydown of full-fat Shalimar, the opening is rather hard work on my nose and I find I avoid it wearing it these days. Finding some Eau de Shalimar has brought some of that drydown joy back into my life.

While this isn't exactly 'fresh', a great summer fragrance for me is Kiehl's Musk. I also find it to have good longevity and acceptable sillage, and overall a great fragrance. It might not work for you, but definitely worth trying.
