Default The Weirder the Better 2017

So many years ago, I made this thread to ask about unique and strange perfumes. There have been a lot of developments since then, and I'm wondering now what new frags you have all discovered that are off-the-wall and experimental.

Well I'm not quite certain if this one would fall in the weird category but to me personally it's artistic enough to be extraordinarily peerless. I discovered this fragrance recently and really enjoying it... the fragrance is Timbuktu. It quickly rose to the top 5 of my collection because of the exemplary artistic craftsmanship in its composition.
    Treasured Fragrances

    Terre d'Hermes
    Timbuktu
    Encre Noire
    Declaration
    Dior Homme (Vtg)
    Midnight in Paris (EdP)

As I'm not much into niche territory (where most weirdness still takes place) I can only talk about very few discoveries: But whenever friends and co-workers ask me for a recomendation of a recent male scent that's different, I think of 'Ultimate' by Baldessarini. This one is composed by Geza Schoen and has his signature transparent woody-balsamic structure and a floral-incense top with a peachy osmanthus/rose top and a grassy-green, somewhat aldehydic sparkle. It took the company some serious balls to throw this one on the mainstream market. Loving it.
On the other hand I for myself still think the weirdness of some modern classics is unmatched: Breath of God, Carillon pour un Ange, The Bug (also Gorilla Perfumes), Cœur de Vetiver Sacré, Bogart pour Homme, Sables ...

I'd love to try this one.

Ah, and you remind me of another wonderful find which is weird (a bit at least) for it pairs a somewhat 'conservative' aromatic fougère with oud: Perris' Oud Imperial. Bought it within seconds.
Tauers Incense Extrême goes in a similar direction btw.

Oud Imperial is a wonderful perfume that gets a lot of wear for me.

My favourite weird perfume might be Le Labo Patchouli 24. Hot leather and tar.

On a more accessible bent, Alaïa Paris smells like lost memories.

I'm not sure if I'd call them experimental, but try the house of Baruti for something different.

    Berlin im Winter
    Melkmeisje
    Voyance
    Tindrer

Bruno Fazzolari has a very unique style as well. I can only guess what you might think is weird but:

    Room 237
    Lampblack
    Seyrig (disctd?)

I replied to say this: Bat.

It's weird for sure, but very well done with quality ingredients and it smells very nice (as long as you're okay smellling like soil) .

Another weird one I'm not as high on but is ultimately a unique and wearable scent, is "Dark Ride" by Xyrena. It smells like a water park ride with chlorinated water, rubber tubing, and a little petrol/fuel. It absolutely captures the theme, I just don't love how it smells.

Also, Oxygen by One of Those (formerly Nu_Be) smells like industrial or electronic packing materials; think styrofoam, plastic, circuit boards....a freshly opened PS4. It's very wearable, and after 2 hours smells like a nice, normal cedar scent.

Another weirdo I enjoy is Blask by Humiecki & Graef. The combination of wine, walnuts, Oud, and some kind of sweet candy makes for a bizarre and completely unique scent, but I like it a lot. It's also one that takes a while to figure out. I'm still not sure if I understand exactly what's going on with it.

Oh..,,and maybe the weirdest scent I've smelled: Bruno Fazzolari Room 237. It's meant to conjure the smell of the creepy dead lady's bathroom in the Overlook Hotel in Stanley Kubrick's movie: The Shining. It smells like a vinyl shower curtain, chemical disinfectant cleaner(like a freshly cleaned toilet bowl), and something musky and hauntingly putrid. Personally, I would never wear the stuff as I find it pretty gross and discomforting, but for fanatics of bizarre, peculiar scents who also happen to be fans of The Shining, this must be pure olfactory bliss. For the record, I love the movie--the scent not so much.

Edit: Ha! I see IsoE was thinking of 237 as well. In that case ...+1.

Also adding several fragrances by Al Haramain, Al Aneeq and Al Rehab- not in an unpleasant way though and not pushing, far more bending, playing with the strangeness boundaries a bit.

Their fragrance oils marketed under unassuming names like Of Course, Silver, Amber River or Epic Maze combining somehow half of the trends in unassuming and unspectacular but safe and inoffensive designer perfumery with another half of unlikely, but extremely rich, luxurious, even extravagant, edgy and unlikely fascinating essences. Thus managing an unexpectedly good balancing act, a real harmony between the two different an apparently not that compatible tendencies.

Issey miyake Bleue dissey. Won't find anything like it. It is the furthest thing from a "blue" fragrance you can get. Pine with touch of Vicks, then hay and incense. Sometimes reminds me of a christmas wreath. Sounds crazy and it is, but it is wonderfull. Go easy on the trigger as this edt will last and project all day long. It works great in the cold winter, but just as good in the heat if sprayed very lightly.
