    Default Valentino Uomo Acqua (2017)

The new edition of Valentino Uomo fragrance from 2014 comes out in the spring of 2017 as Valentino Uomo Acqua. The new flanker represents the refreshed, summery version of the original leathery fragrance, which still preserves its elegant and intense character.

The top include refreshing aromas of mandarin and green tomatoes. Sage and patchouli form the heart of the perfume. The base ends with leather and iris.

The fragrance is available as a 50 and 75 ml Eau de Toilette.

This is either going to be awesome or a trainwreck, no middle ground.

On a side note I feel sorry for anyone who owns the range of Uomo flacons as they are nigh on identical and could lead to some confused miss-applications.

Will throw it on my splits the moment it surfaces though out of sheer curiosity and this lines good track record.

The bottle looks more like a Sport version than and "aqua". However, wasn't impressed with the original, Intense was much better, but still nothing that hasn't already been done before. This one actually looks like it will be very different. I've never been a fan of tomato leaf notes in fragrances, but green tomatoes mixed with mandarin and sage, hmm this could be nice. I am imagining a Hermes Jardin type of smell.
    My Ultimate Top 5:

I also think the pair of Tomato and Sage will be nice. But there isn't anything aquatic in the note breakdown, why is it labeled "Acqua"?

Will give it a try, but Aqua version of Uomo doesn't seem something that will work. I'd guess it will be similar to Prada L'homme.

LOL! Massive agreement. Something amazing, or caramel fish egg latte.

    Me too, amigo! Me too!

My impression of a Valentino-style "sport" is high-wager strip shuffleboard on a yacht, but perhaps that's just the result of decadent-texture bottle fatigue.

Yes, I agree. Makes me wonder if, after Bulgari Aqua Amara, people are playing fast and loose with "aqua" to keep the marketing advantages and lose the restrictive genre cohesion, at the risk of diluting the term.

I couldn't have expressed my own thoughts about the entire Uomo line (including this upcoming release) any better myself. So I'll just say....+1

To not take the risk, they may be literally diluting the perfume.

Managed to score a tester of this for my splits:

Upon initial application you can see why they’ve gone for the acqua tag as you’re blasted with a summery/playful rendition of the familiar iris and leather accord that defines this fragrance. A very safe flanker if you’ve enjoyed previous outings as the needle veers more toward similar than different and reminds me quite a lot of Dior Homme Eau and believe that if the original VU = DH and VUI = DHI then that’s what they were aiming for with this one.

What is different however is the top, you’re immediately greeted with a “fuzziness” in the opening that lays over the iris accord giving it a very different texture. Having no experience of tomato leaves or their aroma chemical equivalents I can only assume that’s what this is? The mandarin here is soft and provides overall brightness/lightness whilst slightly fleshing out the main body of the scent and is quite well blended and smells “clear” in the same way that the VUI flanker smells “opaque” which I suppose explains the name.

The composition is quite linear thus far and I cannot fully comment on the performance as these impressions are from my initial wearing (2 hours) but it feels light yet persistent as it envelopes you in a nice scent cloud that I feel is suited more to the blazing heat as you can tell it won’t become cloying/dense no matter how heavy you go on the trigger. Overall a nice, safe addition to the range which follows in the same “Like Dior Homme used to be but modernized” vibe of the previous two releases.

When and were will this be sold in the US?

It seems nordstroms had an exclusive on these in the past.

Thanks for the impressions, Palmolive. Iris + leather raise my expectations somewhat but I'll give this one a try when it hits the local Sephora's. I like the Intense but not the original.

This sounds nice. Guess I'll have to wait for a US splitter to cop a bottle, since you're in the UK. Plus I feel $16 for 10 ml from a tester bottle is more than twice the price.
