Default Has Anyone Ever Purchased in Person at Guerlain in Paris?

If so, did the staff give you any of their 20ml house samples? Thanks.

I purchased Chamade Homme there, but don't recall getting any 20ml samples. However, don't recall ever asking for samples with my purchase

They do, but if you buy from Suzan part of her way to subsidize her trips and not charge those of us who have her buy for us is to keep the samples and sell them on ebay

    I hope that makes sense

Damn. Never heard of those sample and didn't receive one. (On top of that, what I bought had been reformulated).

Oh, dear cacio! I am sure next time will be better. Ask for a "house sample."

Aha, so that's from whence those 20ml samples that pop up on eBay come. Good to know!

Yes, I've bought from a couple of their boutiques (I live here) but only ever received a few little samples of Habit Rouge, not that that bothers me. Asking directly for samples is not really the French way, and I've never heard of 20ml samples being given out. Can I ask where you heard this rumour?

On the rue St-Honoré you can buy 20ml decants of the Art et La Matière line for €30 a pop, but that's a little different.

Yes, those 20ml bottles priced so nicely, one of the draws of Paris for me right now! We are going on holiday in the Orleans region in June, and I am already plotting how to get up to the city by myself to attack the Guerlain store and Serge Lutens. Sam, are you a fan of the new Kimonanthe from Diptyque?

How on earth did you guess?! I like it very much though haven't given it extended skin time (sample only - it's €€€€).

If I can enable you in any way with regard to your French trip please let me know

Oh, those 20 ml bottles can be bought, but people that purchase a LOT of items and often are sometimes given those as "samples". They are great prices and I had a few of them.

I'm TRES jealous of you ClaireV! I sooooo want to go to Paris just for the perfumes! I have not been since my hobby went so insane...perhaps that's a good thing???

That's so nice of you, Sam! I am delighted that you are also a fan of Kimonanthe - like you, I've only had a sample (splash), but it is still haunting me and I might have to pony up the moolah at some point. Still, at 150 euros, we are in the same league as Chanel extraits and most of the Amouages I buy, so....hmmmm. Food for thought!

I haven't been since, either! I still don't know if it's a possibility or not...I did suggest a trip by ourselves to my husband, and he was enthusiastic about it, except then today he also wondered aloud if it would not be a great idea for the children to come along with us and see Paris....OH GOD.

I've purchased "in diverse times" (my last time was in the 2013) several bottles of Habit Rouge and Heritage, I've just received kindness and few mini samples (68 Av. Champs Elysees).

We will be in Paris for a couple of days after Easter - with the children, whose first trip abroad it'll be, so I won't have much time for perfume shops. I do plan to go to Guerlain while they visit the catacombs though. I'd heard the flagship boutique was in Champs Elysées but sounds as though I should also go to another in rue St-Honoré?

Last time I went to rue St Honoré a few weeks ago the smaller affordable samples of the l'Art de la Matière line had been replaced with a glitzier leather-clad atomiser - and higher price, naturally They now cost something like 70 or 80 euros, from memory. I'm not sure whether they're also available at No. 68 but would be happy to phone and find out if you like.

Otherwise there's no point going to both. The Maison Guerlain has everything, is spectacular (don't miss the exhibition of old products upstairs) and is well worth a visit in itself. It's big, so allow yourself plenty of time!

Thanks Sam, that's great to know. Please don't go to any trouble to find out - I'm happy to take a chance on the flagship shop and like but don't love the L'Art de la Matière scents that I've tried so far. Excited now!

Enjoy Paris! Also, close to the Guerlain on Champs Elysees, there is a flagship Sephora (same owner), which is immense and has plenty of exclusive lines and niche.

Hi Saminlondon, hope you are well. You might be able to tell us if the free engraving on bottles is still done on a Saturday in the main Guerlain store. It’s a fabulous store but while waiting for engraving of my bottles it can get dangerous as my fiancé always believe in the Moscow rule of shopping and finds other things we love. Also Sam where is the new Guerlain in Rue st honore as the old one is now a LV jewellery ( how they manage two in place de vendome and the flagship store I don’t understand) shop with the big gold disc with rays on the outside. Thanks very much in advance. Didn’t see it last time I was there as Madame Colette had announced she was closing and there was a huge wait for the Breydo perfumes created for her store and stock was taking a long time to get to people waiting for them.

Prefer to stop near in rue st honore as that street is so close to so many perfume shops, and also across from hotel Costes is Ilias Lalaounis which often has lovely pieces that sell out very quickly in Greece.

The Paris store was very kind to us. As it was our first and potentially only pilgrimage, we bought many bottles and body products. Not only did we get free engraving on all the bottles - they threw in a lovely bottle of parfum d'ambience.

Las Vegas has done similar things for large orders.

    Never regretted a single bottle.

Those 20ml house samples are gratis for someone who makes quite large purchases such as "the shop for you in France" woman. She then sells them to help finance her trips there. Trusted her one time to make a purchase for me. Never again. Caveat emptor.

Went to the main store in Paris last April. Free engraving and a free atomizer with a rather large purchase. Don’t think we got any samples.

That was last year - I revived an old thread. Think Sam's saying upthread that they're now €70 or €80 with a fancier atomiser. I'll report back.
