Good (very early) morning, everyone! I'm having a truly terrible, terrible flare-up and right now, and NOTHING is working--pain meds, excercises, heating pad--nothing.

So I'm trying to distract myself with perfume. I have a sample of Guerlain Songe d'un Bois e'Ete and i just tried a little on, and then tried more than a little more. It's good, possibly even excellent (we'll see where it goes with the development). I've smelled so many woody perfumes that are either terrible or just boring--funky aromachemicals and/or cedar--yaaawnnn--and this is neither, having just enough good spicy jasmine (sambac, I'm thinking) at the heart that it particularly appeals to me. Even though the notes don't list oud, I smell something that seems like a very refined, sort of silky oudish something. I don't find the cumin distracting at all; I think it's just pulling the scent in a savory direction, so you get an interesting tension with the slightly sweet jasmine. Overall, there's something about it that reminds me of a really fine black tea, which is probably tannins, only here they're from wood, or an approximation thereof, instead of leaves. It's very, very, very hard to stop sniffing it--I really haven't smelled anything like it before. It has all the masculine cliches--spice, wood, leather, a little dirt--but it smells like the ingredients are so good, and they're deployed in such an artful manner, that it has both the comfort of the familiar and the interest of the new.

Damn, I wish this line were not so hideously expensive and hard to get. I would love to spend a lot more time with this, Rose Nacree, and Encense Mythique. None of them have anything remotely resembling what I think of as Guerlainishness; but they're all plush, despite the dryness of the notes, and that plushness seems like it could only be Guerlain. I read in a BN review that this one comes in oil form, which makes sense, considering that the Deserts are all supposed to be Middle East exclusives. I bet it's something to behold. OK--back to the heating pad. See you guys at a more civilized hour . . . .

Damn... Wish I could give you a good remedy for the pain. A Motrin, Tylenol, Oxy combo worked for me, fairly well, if your talking of the endo-pain.

Damn! Where do you folks get all these samples, for the perfumes you test? I mean, besides Lucky Scent???

This Guerlain you describe sounds very interesting. I feel the same way about woody perfumes. I have a boat-load of them. Most of them smell very similar. Maybe one note different about them, in each. I'm trying to find one, where the wood notes don't take over, just go along for the ride.

Starting the day with John Galliano. Damn, I love this juice!

    Morning all!

thediamondsea, please feel better soon! Healing vibes being sent your way.

HOPh, have you looked at Surrender to Chance & The Perfumed Court for samples? By the way, l spelled your "initials" as HOF yesterday, as my brain wanted to spell them phonetically, sorry!

After a lazy start & delicious breakfast sandwiches made by Mr teardrop (bacon, egg & white pudding, yum!) l'm wearing V again & planning to clean the bathroom today.

    ETA: thanks, tdem!

Good morning again, everyone! thank you all so much for the hugs and healing vibes. I'm sure it seems like every time you look at SoTD, there's the damn diamondsea bitching about feeling lousy. One of these days I'll be all fixed. We're getting there; I'm feeling optimistic about some prospects on the near horizon.

In the meantime, I'm still running on no sleep. The sun's up now and it is what it is. Delirium is becoming second nature.

HoP, my usual combo of Ibuprofen/Valium/Hydrocodone (horsepill strength) didn't even put a dent in this flare. Most of the time, that gets it eventually; but for some reason this flare just will not quit. I've taken almost as much hydrocodone as I safely can for the next few hours, because of the acetaminophen content--gotta watch the liver. This is the first time in what seems like years that I've had to use the heating pad; it takes the edge off, but that's about all it can do. I'll be seeing a pain specialist in the next week or so; hopefully we can get some bigger guns. To answer your question--a year ago I wondered the same thing: "Where do these people get all these samples?" Now it seems like they're coming out of the furniture, just spontaneously generating.

I'm going for more perfume distraction while I wait for hubby to make breakfast tacos. This time it's my trusty friend Teint de Neige. At the end of the day (or the beginning, as it were), this is the Comfort Scent to End All Comfort Scents, I think.

(((diamondsea))) I can so relate to that pain. It would be so bad at times, my eyes nearly rolled back into my head. I'd be popping pills like they were M&M candies. I am so glad it is over! Now it's just arthritic pain and MEGA hot flashes. Oh, and a coupla MOOD swings thrown in for fun.

    Would acupuncture or pressure help???

On to Eau d' Hadrien because I feel like smelling like sour candies...

Hugs to thediamondsea--I hope you get some relief soon.

I'm testing four more today--Hippie Rose, 34 Blvd St. Germain, Sheiduna, and Replica Dancing on the Moon. I haven't loved any of the Replicas I've tried and this one hasn't changed my mind. The others are just okay--not scrubbers, but I won't wear them again. I don't know what I'll put on later.

    Happy Saturday, all.

I missed posting yesterday (it was my last day of work before my week long VACATION so it was busy)...I wore Rose Flash by Tauerville and then later vintage Dune EdT by Christian Dior...

This morning it's been a lazy one...me and the BF just ate breakfast (it's 1:45 pm) and you know what? It's been awesome doing nothing all morning and staying in bed. I got up, straightened up the house and doused on some stiff and crisp:

Quoting teardrop: l'm wearing V again & planning to clean the bathroom today.

One should always be well-scented for household chores. I like to wear a colorful bandanna and nice lipstick while cleaning too. Makes it feel less like drudgery.

My scent of the day is Santa Maria Novella Patchouli. Today, Mr. Lark is making bread pudding for a potluck and a lemon tart for us. I'm helping with the pastry crust, which is my speciality.

It's starting to heat up here so I'll get ready to hunker down for six months of high temperatures. Out comes Acqua di Parma Colonia, Cristalle, Diorella, L'Ombre Dans L'Eau, Futur, etc. I find Timbuktu interesting in heat as well.

    Have a good day.
