Default Banana Republic Oud Mosaic = Oud Ispahan/ Oud Palao

Banana republic has launched a new line of fragrances which are unisex. One of them is Oud Mosaic which is a dead ringer for Diptyque Oud Palao and Dior Oud Ispahan. I picked up a bottle for 30 dollars.I own the other two bottles, so I was quite shocked to see a niche level scent at such a low price, so do check it out.

You mean same smell and performance from beginning to end?

. Pretty much, not as strong as my 2012 OI but definitely stronger than the 2017 bottle I tried.

It just launched 2 weeks ago, you will only find discontinued BR fragrances , BR has discontinued most of its past fragrances and put out this unisex line.

That was fast. I'm guessing that BR got serious about getting their old fragrance mojo back. Good. After their wooden box line, they seemed adrift.

Oud Mosaic is by Claude Dir. He has done great stuff, too much of it under the radar. Dirty English will remain a fave of mine.

Need to sniff this whole set. I'm thinking that Leather Reserve could have some serious old-school appeal.

I'll definitely have to sniff it next time I'm near a BR. Oud Palao is my favorite oud to date.

Other than the accords themselves, is sillage/longevity comparable?

Where did you find this for $30? It's $48+tax for 2.5oz/75ml and $25+tax for .5oz/15ml at my local BR.

Scratch that--BR is running a 40% off sale in store on all merchandise right now. Gotcha, Vin. I just picked up a bottle.

Ok these are a good deal with the current 40% off coupon. Great deal even.

I have 2012 Oud Ispahan and its not the same. It has a similar vibe but to me isn't close nor as smooth. Its not as "dirty" either. It is a bit smokey oud I guess you could say. The balance is a lot different than OI. If you smell them together its super clear they are different. If you are going off memory, I guess I could see the similarity. For the money, it's great.

I didn't really care for any of the others. The white I could see for a woman, the black and leather were ok. I just have too many great frags to buy ones I don't really dig just because they are cheap.

That being said, they are a screaming deal. I could see the comparison to oud ispahan, but its nowhere as deep, rich, or powerful as my OI. That's just my opinion of course. Its still a buy though for how cheap it is. Something like $30 with the coupon. This is a great oud for that price, wish I had got it instead of my first oud which is Versace Oud Noir.

This reminds me kind of Jo malone, well done BR, well done. I have no idea about performance but they say EDP. I also think that the Oud is by far the strongest. Hope that helps someone.

It essentially is the same scent obviously not as potent as the 2012 bottle but definitely better than the 2017 bottle in stores now which is much more transparent. Essentially this is Rose + Labadanum + Synthetic Laotian Oud accord, Oud Palao has the same structure. I own both and can with ease say the scent is 90% the same, so for members on a budget or looking for a niche quality scent to use daily this is pretty damn good.

Agree with this. I'd say the difference (to my nose) is that Oud Palao is sharper, more astringent. Oud Mosaic leans more feminine. It's softer, more floral, white musky to me. It is classified as EDP, but Oud Palao is definitely stronger--in projection and sillage--and has more longevity. And I love that blast you get from it when you first spray it. Oud Palao is a yellowish green and Oud Mosaic is more a whitish pink to me, if that makes any sense (I associate fragrance with color.) I prefer Oud Palao, but Oud Mosaic is indeed damn good.

Yes Oud Palao is defintely stronger. OI/Oud Ispahan/Mosaic are on the same cline but for 20 bucks the quality is shockingly niche. Most designer ouds are scratchy and medicinal this one uses synthetic Lation oud essence which has a more animalic sweaty facet with a rosey twang.
From my collection its like this in terms of strength /longevity
Oud Ispahan 2012>>>Oud Palao>>> Oud Mosaic >> Oud Ispahan 2017

Would you go so far as to call that animalic sweaty facet "barnyard" (in the standard oud-lover sense), or is it milder than that?

With all due respect, Oud Mosaic does not last as long as 2017 Oud Ispahan. To me they don't smell the same either. I would say I see similarities but they are easily distinguishable to me. I know everyone's nose is different but OI is much more powerful. I have 2012 OI, and the new tester at the Dior Boutique in Beverly Hills was still super strong. Oud Mosaic isn't on that level in strength.

I know the question was for Vin, but personally I do not get barnyard from this. What I do get is white musk. Now, musk technically should be animalic, but synthetic white musk is powdery and kind of floral to me. This is a soft, feminine fragrance. No sweaty stank at all, in my opinion. It will be interesting to hear what other people smell as more people pick it up.

I tried the Oud Mosaic at a BR outlet last weekend. I do get a bit of synth oud and rose combo, but it pales in comparison to Oud Isaphan in both quality of notes and potency.

For someone exploring these sorts of scents, it's not bad however. I just found it too redundant for my collection even after the 40-50% discount for the hefty 125 mL bottle. Vintage Green was nice but I didn't opt for that one either.

I can see this, too. While enjoyable in its own right, Oud Mosaic is not as distinctive as Oud Palao and will probably not stand out for those who have experience with niche perfumery.
