Default My trip to Grasse (France)

    Hello people.
I visited Grasse recently and spent a couple of days there. The place is much different from what I expected in all possible way.
If you are looking for endless fields of lavender and beautiful aromatic flowers being harvest by the precious hands of Hermes, Chanel or Guerlain people you won't. All those plantations are private not for the public eye and far away from Grasse, anything from 50 to 150 km away. There is one tour company that could take you to smaller farms and also if you have some connections you may be able to see a nearby Dior flower field.

Then you have the Grasse trinity which is composed by Fragonard, Molinard and Galimard. They are all scattered around the Grasse area and not so easy to understand their set up. The factory, the stores, and the museum could be at 3 different locations. I visited them all and I was less than impressed, the small operation only available to the public viewing. Tour ladies not very knowledgeable to say the less, they could be selling underwear for what I care. They were more interested in getting quick to the shopping area where you can by gazillion products, after smelling 2 or 3 fragrances nose fatigue kills you. In all fairness I must say that the free tour lady at Galimard was very nice she spoke proper English and gave me good inside of some industry aspects such as perfumistas contractual deals (interesting). The landscape around Grasse is nice.

The town itself is ... well, nothing really special for a small town in the French Provenza. Plenty shops selling their own cheap juices more proper for room spray than other things. Nothing really worth buying. What surprises me was how deteriorated some places are, there is a large Muslim community living in not so nice conditions at times it felt unsafe. If you have a problem with women wearing burqas and fully covered in black is better you don't visit some areas in Grasse. A lot of police presence as well do to recent events in which a teen killed a classmate and injured others.

All in all visiting Grasse is a half a day trip. Oh yes, I forgot to mention the History Perfume Museum which to my luck was close to the public during my staying to do some private functions.

Then there is Nize, Cannes and Monte Carlo which I also visited and that my friends is a whole different game.

I really find it hard to believe that mods are being called out publicly for doing what they do. This is like the fifth time in a week.

This thread has nothing to do with Male Fragrance; it's a generic thread about a specific geographic area, therefore it belongs here. We like to keep the forums organised and tidy. That helps both current and future members to find what they might be looking for.

Basteri - thanks for sharing your trip. We probably crossed paths somewhere in that area at some point as I was in Nice, Cannes, Grasse also recently.
