    There's a department store that I always walk through en route to my bank.

    And, when I pass the fragrance counter, I often stop and spray a few cards, etc.

    The truth is that I'll never buy any cologne there. It's a lot more expensive than other sources.

    And, they recognize me in the fragrance section. And, it is a little awkward. Because, they've gathered that I'm not going to buy any bottles from them.

    But, I have spent thousands of dollars on clothes/jackets etc. in the same department store.

    So, they're getting plenty of consumer dollars off me anyway.

    Agree that there's really no reason to feel awkward - particularly as you've bought a couple of scents from them at retail.

    But putting myself in your shoes, I get it.

    Telling them straight up that you're a hobbyist, love testing scents, and love their shop might help remove your concern about "questions" they might have about your presence. And maybe make a token purchase once in awhile to show good faith and maintain the relationship, if that's what you'd like to achieve.
