Woo-hoo, it's here! And I LOVE Vanille Jolie. Like many AL's, this one tells you just what it is in the title. A pretty vanilla it is, a really pretty one. Going to wear it the rest of the evening (probably to bed) and will post more when I have a better handle on it. Some quick thoughts for now-the words popping into my head are fluffy, vanilla pod scrapings, a bit of play doh/doll's head, sandalwood and again, oh so pretty. One little bottle won't be enough for me.

My complimentary samples are Tabak Kretek, Green Tara (which I tried quite some time ago; grateful for a re-visit) and Creme Brulee. I also have a little dab of Creme Brulee on right now and this is one to make a gourmand lover smile. Again, more thoughts later but this is freakin' delicious. Where Vanille Jolie is more serious, not terribly sweet, CB goes full tilt sweet and edible. Loads of fun! I couldn't do this one all the time but I could certainly use a small bottle.

Back again soon after a good sniff-n-think!

So do any of them smell like Tihota? I am trying to find a cheaper dupe for a friend.

PerfumedLady, thanks for posting your thoughts!

cazaubon, Love's True Bluish Light put me in mind of a less intense version of Tihota.

Unfortunately, no. But, I am going to continue with sampling AL vanillas/gourmands and will let you know if anything turns up. Also, has your friend tried Molinard's Vanille? This is the one that your post brought to mind, although it is MUCH cheaper and the quality may not satisfy a Tihota lover. Still, worth a try, I think.

Vanille Jolie's closest relative that I know of is Creed's Sublime Vanille. And I very much wanted a cheaper dupe of SV! But this is more than a dupe; honestly a better, more complete scent than SV. They start off nearly identical-slightly powdery, not-too-sweet, just cracked open vanilla pod. But SV stays linear where VJ keeps developing. Vanille Jolie has a praline accord (the nicest I've smelled-not too sticky or sugary) and lacks Sublime's ylang, or indeed anything floral. The sandalwood in Vanille Jolie is divine! A background note to be certain, not a main player, but it is a Samsara style sandalwood note. I also think my nose is being fooled into thinking there's heliotrope here. Wearing it again this morning and still getting some baby doll head, though no heliotrope listed. I wonder if this is an aspect of the musks used. No matter, really; I adore it, whatever it is! Overall a great vanilla but I think not soli-bean enough, nor dark enough, to stand in for Tihota.

And Creme Brulee is too ooey-gooey to be a dupe for Tihota but also great stuff. This one is sticky and sweet. Lots of caramelized sugar here. Besides actual creme brulee, it also reminds me of the frosting on our cinnamon rolls we used to have at home on Christmas morning. I think this is probably very particular to me and my memories, but it's very much a holiday gourmand in my mind. Too dense to be a go-to sweetie for me but I wouldn't mind a little 5 ml bottle for Christmastime wear. My little Vanille Jolie bottle, on the other hand, will require an upgrade to the big girl sized extrait.

These two are now among my favorite ALs, along with Ambra Tibet and Bohemian Rose. I did so brilliantly with this Vanille Jolie blind buy-with steering by Vernona! I went through periods of sampling AL ambers, then florals. No idea why I waited so long to try more of her gourmands. These two vanillas are both so yummy and satisfying, in very different ways.

Thoughts on Tabak Kretek and Green Tara coming soon! As soon as I can tear myself away from Vanille Jolie!

Ohhh, my dear PL, I am so relieved now!! I was waiting anxiously for your impressions and am sooo happy that you love it!!

I suppose I can proceed with the enablement now I am even more certain now that you'd like Vani Choc. And since you (so unexpectedly I must add!) liked Creme Brulee, I shall add Crema di latte too. Much easier to wear, fluffier not as nauseatingly sweet as Creme Brulee can be at times.

On topic, I really really need to try (or maybe blind buy?) Black Coconut! Anyone care to enable?
teardrop? I'm only afraid that it might not be sweet enough for me. Anything you could compare it to? Any other coconutty scent?

(((Vernona))), you needn't have worried! Full blame for bad blind buys rests solely on me. I'd have loved you all the same if Vanille Jolie had been a stinker. But it is NOT! It's right up my vanilla alley; you were totally correct. Definitely one for those who need vanilla plus a little something to keep it from being foody. And only very lightly sweet-it's perfect! Just what I wanted in a summery vanilla. A little dab of extrait wears so politely close yet lasts all day. I'm so happy with it!

You're right to be surprised that I liked Creme Brulee, too. Not at all something I'd normally go for! But it had the same effect on me as Hermes Ambre Narguile-instant smiles! They don't smell alike in any way but both have an over the top yumminess that's just irresistible. I like any gourmand that brings me that sort of joy, even if they can be tough for me to wear. And Creme Brulee-one needs to be seriously craving sugar for the commitment this requires! Very long lasting and in the oil form, lots of sillage. But because ALs are available and affordable in small amounts, I'm happy to consider the occasional oddball for my collection. Although, Crema di Latte sounds just lovely! Will definitely try to get me a sample! And your other recs, too. You did outstanding work with your Vanille Jolie rec! Bonus enablement points for you.

Vernona, l think Black Coconut could be a contender for you, but knowing how particular you are, l recommend sampling first! And l think that as there are several gourmands & vanillas in this line, it would be worth your while to order a bunch of samples to choose from. l think you'd enjoy Tuberose Diabolique too, as it's mostly coconut to my nose.

Thank you my dear! I think it's a pretty safe bet. Especially since it sounds perfect for layering. I would use it to amp up the coconut in some of my less coconutty scents. I am thinking of ordering the 15 mls edp and some samples! Then I could join you here with my impressions!

Tabak Kretek today. Notes: clove bud, cinnamon, cardamom, tobacco leaf, amber, sandalwood, incense.

l had to look up the meaning of the word "kretek", & apparently it's an onomatopoeic word for the popping sound made by clove cigarettes. l've never come across these in real life, but it seems they've been banned in many places, because the cloves numb the throat slightly, allowing one to tolerate much higher levels of the harmful chemicals found in high strength cigarettes. Some of them have very pretty designs inked onto them, though.

The opening burst of clove reminds me at once of the dental surgery, but within five minutes this note calms down & floats above the rich, dry tobacco, lending an edge of freshness. One hour in, it's a smoother tobacco accord, & slightly sweeter, but never becoming overly sweet a la Tobacco Vanille. From here it simply fades slowly, & the amber & sandalwood base is very faint. l don't get any incense, & eight hours in it's barely detectable, making it the least long-lasting one that l've tried from this house.

l like this one, but it's not a love. l think it would suit those looking for a straight-up tobacco with a little freshness, that leans to the masculine end of the spectrum.

Very interesting, teardrop! I have smoked clove cigarettes but never heard "kretek" used before. They do indeed snap, crackle and pop! What a great word!

I'm surprised to hear they're banned in some places and the logic seems a bit suspect. I don't recall them being that numbing. Among my group of friends, they were an occasional smoke in place of a tobacco cigarette, not in addition to. We didn't crush out a clove then immediately light tobacco, lol. Not sure what some of these other folks were getting into, yikes! If anything must be banned, it seems silly that clove smokes would be first to get the axe. Plus, they taste and smell heavenly! Or they did; haven't had one in about twenty years. This really took me back! I used to be cool.

I'm wearing Tabak Kretek today and my thoughts are like yours-enjoyable and well done but I don't love it. Agree that the tobacco accord is especially smooth and rich. Beautiful. But this belongs to a category I really don't care for. Though it lacks vanilla, it's a relative of Tobacco Vanille, Xerjoff Naxos and others. However, high points to the AL for not being as ham-fisted as this sort of composition normally is. This one has far more lift, more light coming through, than I usually find in this style. The clove really is somewhat dental but doesn't hammer me over the head. I already have a great spicy, ambery tobacco, Tauer's Vanilla Flash. This one has a silken, glowing rose that makes all the heavier notes wearable for me. If I didn't own this already, Tabak Kretek would maybe be a contender, what with its finely-tuned composition. As it is, VF is my goldilocks tobacco and I need no others. But I would definitely recommend the AL to those looking for tobacco minus sweetness or heaviness.

Thanks, PerfumedLady! l completely agree with your assessment, & your comment about Kretek "letting more light through" than the heavier compositions makes total sense. l guess that's what l meant about it having a fresher edge, but you put it much better than l did!

teardrop, Tabak Kretek was surprisingly short lasting for me, too! Still, pretty cool the way it does capture the "kretek". It just feels like it's crackling and popping while it lasts. Neat effect.

Vernona, I'm sending you all the positive blind buy vibes I can muster! Goodness knows you deserve them after the little gem you pointed me to. Looking forward to more Vanille Jolie later today; can't leave it alone! Best of luck; I can't wait to hear about Black Coconut!

Thank you my dear PL :*
I have a good feeling about it. Three main reasons; it's coconut, it's me&coconut and it's Ava Luxe quality so I'm pretty sure it won't smell like plastic!
The only downside of the moment is that I can hardly wait for it and it takes a little bit longer for her to ship out, which is perfectly normal given she does it all by herself!
I think I am finally ready for indie! It took me a while to get there, but Hilde Soliani was sort of an eye opener for me so now I'm on the lookout for other good quality indie brands!
    Enjoy your Vanille Jolie!

l managed to acquire a sample of Madame X after all, courtesy of a truly wonderful basenoter, & tried it today! This is the extrait version. Notes: coriander, acacia farnesiana, hay, jasmine, rose, labdanum, leather, incense, patchouli, oakmoss, civet, ambergris, castoreum, Mysore sandalwood, musk, vanilla.

First off, this is a rich, complex, proper "grown up" perfume of the old school variety. l don't detect all of the listed notes, but the initial phase is dark & spicy, with patchouli & the animalic notes of civet & castoreum immediately apparent. lt's salty, fleshy & unapologetically carnal. This phase lasts a good two hours before settling to a soft purr of labdanum & animal fur, & once again l am reminded of L'Ombre Fauve. From here it slowly recedes to a powdery, ambery base, fading out around eleven hours in.

l would say that if you regret missing the chance to try this one before it disappeared, you should definitely try Kama, as there are a lot of similarities between the two.

That concludes this batch of samples for me, but l look forward to hearing more impressions from others here!

ETA: on waking during the night, l could clearly smell a delightfully buttery sandalwood wafting from my arm, & 24 hours after application there's still a lingering trace of it left. Outstanding!

And my Ava Luxe parcel is here
All I can say is that another one is in the cards, as soon as I figure out which concentrations of what I will go for and other things I want to sample.

Black Coconut is lovely. It is nothing spectacular or complex, but it will be a great layering scent and that is exactly what I bought it for. I have several scents that I'd love to amp up with some coconut and this is my solution! It is woody and raw coconut smell, not really sweet, similar to CSP Coco Extreme but not that sweet and, luckily, not that plastic.

Creme Brulee is a looove for me. This is not my first time trying it, but somehow I entirely forgot about it. Both in terms of smell (I don't remember it smelled THIS good) and in terms of wanting to revisit. It's been a few years! So receiving it as a complimentary sample was like the best thing ever. I shall say it was destiny and proceed at checkout
I think this is every gourmands lover dream come true. It is a very realistic toffee smell, sweet and rich but not artificial in the least and not suffocating. The drydown is similar to Soliani'a Crema di Latte, but owning both is not too much for me. I received the sample of perfume oil and it is amazing. But I also love to spray on so now I am thinking about edp vs.perfume oil. Knowing myself it will be both!

    Tuberose Diabolique.
OMG Beyond Love by Kilian. No jokes. To my nose this is incredibly similar. It has the same green waxy sweet tuberose and coconut smell. Of course I love it. Not sure I will go for it given I own the deadly expensive Beyond Love so I frikkin need to wear the heck out of that one to justify how much I paid for it and I'm afraid, if I had this, it would totally interfere with my BL wearing. Or... maybe a small bottle of perfume oil?
Anyway, anyone with any interest in Beyond Love should try this immediately, it's fantastic!

All 3 seem to have good longevity. It's been more than 3 hours since I applied and they are all going strong without signs of fading any time soon. Big thumbs up for that too! Another note, I love these small square bottles, they are just too cute!! My bottle of Vanille Jolie came in an entirely different bottle, though that one was cute too, I like this one much more!

    And I love Lokhoum, too!!
Ok, this parcel was a total win (or damage, depends on one's point of view )! Unlike most of the samples i received in the last few days (and I received plenty!), I loved EVERYTHING I tried so far from. And my credit card will hate Ava Luxe because I keep adding stuff in the shopping cart!

So, Lokhoum. To me, is the nicest lokhoum type perfume I ever tried. I haven't tried any of the Keiko Lokhoums yet though. But after this one, I don't think I need to. This is pretty much all I needed from a lokhoum scent. It is not entirely "typical" because it is quite nutty and not as rosy as most, which is probably why I like it so much. I get both the hazelnut and pistachio, and I can't believe I can actually smell the pistachio because I couldn't detect it in basically any scent that supposedly contains it. The only exception being Kyse Sucre et Fleurs, where it was dominant and realistic, but the scent lasted exactly 5 minutes on my skin so no thank you. Incredibly beautiful 5 minutes, but still 5 minutes.
As Lokhoum dries down I get some similarity to Sweet Oriental Dream, but thank God it completely lacks it's air freshener or potpourri vibe. It is also not as cloying and it is much easier to wear. It's still rich and thick and projects really well, but it walks the fine line between the satisfyingly thick and the suffocating perfectly.

As it usualy is in life, pleasure finds you when you least expect it. This was the order I had least expectations from and it turned out to be the best.

I did a side by side of Tuberose Diabolique and Beyond Love and smelling them this close, differences are more obvious. BL is greener and somehow fresher, TD is sweeter, it is more "intoxicating", more buttery.

Now all of this sounds like a good enough reason to own both, right?

    Oh, yes!

Today I am wearing Mango. Notes say mango, pineapple and coconut. And that pretty much sums it up. It's lovely. Mango note is a bit tricky for me even though I enjoy practically all tropical fruity and floral notes, but I never found a mango dominant scent for myself. Not even the admittedly lovely Kilian's Moonlight in heaven, the mango is a bit too strong and somehow greener in comparison to Ava's. Ava's Mango is ripe and juicy and backed by a good dose of coconut. On her website it says "with hints of pineapple and coconut" so I expected it to get lost in translation but it's very much present. The note itself is much like her own Black Coconut. Paired with the freshness of mango and pineapple, this smells really really good on my skin. The pineapple note is least prominent, but still noticable. Longevity is good, projection is softer than I expected, but I have a perfume oil sample so I believe edp would project more.

This is a lovely summer scent, something a little bit different for when we get tired of the usual citrus/suntan/aquatic. It very much makes me think of palm trees, summer breeze and sipping cocktails.

    Thank you my dear
I am actually waiting for my next AL parcel, I ordered Creme Brulee in both the edp and perfume oil, because I loved it that much and I also got more samples with it so will continue to report.

Thoroughly enjoying exploring this brand and I've no idea why it took me so long. Lokhoum and Mango are both very possible future buys. I was seriously considering Tuberose Diabolique but I am trying to put it off as long as my Beyond Love is like 95% full. Desperately trying to downsize and limit purchases, but not really succesfull at that.

    Mango sounds yummy.

I am quite enjoying a mango scented Shower Gel that I found at Marshall's from Korres. Very juicy and realistic. It pairs well with my fast-dwindling sample of Arielle Shoshana (passionfruit).

My Ava Luxe order arrived late on Friday, I got some bottles as well as some samples. I've been buying Ava Luxe perfumes since 2005 but it has been a very long time since my last order & I have finished (used up) all my Ava Luxe perfumes that I've owned in the past.

I blind bought Vanille Jolie in all three concentrations & wore it yesterday. Each concentration smelt & played out a little differently on my skin. The EDP was a sweet vanilla musk that was lighter in texture & more airy then the extrait & oil. The extrait had a lot more praline in it, the vanilla was thicker (more dense) & I didn't get the musk as an individual note. It was the boldest out of the three, the oil version was smoother & rounder, the extrait smelt a bit sharper around the edges compared to the oil. The oil version was seamlessly blended, all the notes were there but I had to hunt for the individual notes within the blend. The overall aroma was wonderful. They all lasted very well. In the evening, I could detect a bit of musk from the EDP, a hint of sweet vanilla from the extrait but I couldn't detect any of the oil. I am very happy to own all three concentrations. Vanille Jolie smelt a bit different to my sample of Sublime Vanille. I got a lot of lemon in SV that I didn't get in VJ but they both have a similar bourbon vanilla (although Ava Luxe lists Mexican vanilla as the type used). Like PerfumedLady, I prefer Vanille Jolie to Sublime Vanille.

Today, I'm trying Pink Violet. It's very pretty but linear, I'll be back with my thoughts on this one later!
