Thread: Tar

What perfumes do have very noticeable tar note?
Or is there anything that's build completely around tar note?

If by tar you mean an overall effect of tar, as in hot asphalt, I recommend checking out Comme des Garçons Tar, which has just been re-released as part of their Olfactory Library. It's weird, but also very nice.

If you mean smoky birch tar, there are a lot of options. Off the top of my head: Le Labo Patchouli 24 (probably the most tar in one place), Durbano Black Tourmaline, CdG Black, and Andy Tauer Lonestar Memories.

I probably meant that smoky birch tar. Already do have P24 and I think it is best I've found so far.

Although CdG Tar begun to interest me. Have to check that one out anyway.

So far, one of the, if not even the "tarriest" fragrance personally encountered (with an admittedly still quite limited testing/wearing experience) can be considered G-Man by Gainsboro, not only dark almost beyond the fragrance equivalent of a "pitch black" level, but also with a certain almost mineral, flinty note in addition to its suggestions of tar

Imaginary Authors Cobra and the Canary has a noticeable petroleum tar/asphalt component.

Horns beat me to the punch! I also understand Imaginary Authors have asphalt in their Cobra and the Canary. Would that work?

Sonoma Scent Studio: Fireside Intense for sure. Smells like a campfire, but one started with a rubber tire. Pretty predominant birch tar note as well as some cade. Really great fragrance actually and the dry down is a nice, smooth, and smoky one.

Some great suggestions here so far. I'd also recommend just about everything from Beaufort London. Also, Big Sur by Juniper Ridge. Oh, and Suedois from Euphorium Brooklyn.

Several have beat me to it with CdG Black. It's almost like a peaty-tar to me.

Tar by CdG. Many people can notice a strong tar note in A*Men. I am not sure I do.

Exactly! I always thought A*Men contains a note of tar.

Already I have sampled Beaufort London and Bois D'ascese earlier, they are nice ones but did not enjoy them enough to buy a bottle. Still have samples of them though and like to revisit them occasionally. LADDM has nice tarry opening but evolves into boring amber which is not for me. Good one anyway.

Just got a few samples of CdG with another order, Tar, Black, Garage and as a bonus seems to be Black Pepper.

Already sampled Tar and Garage. Both seem really interesting ones. In fact, I think I need abottle of both. Tar is not that kind of tar I was after but it really is great! Also even more so, Garage is absolutely gorgeous. Guys, honestly, I have not had this much 'wow' in awhile with anything.

I see me busy for the end of year doing extensive sampling of this house...

    Next... Black...

Vit et Armis from Beaufort is noticeably smoky and tarry, actually delivering on the old-naval imagery it's supposed to evoke. Could be described as acrid by some, but I like this as a change from the norm.

Garage ordered, Tar was sold out. Will buy it when just see some restock. On a fence with Black. Have to test more. More on the positive side. Big maybe. I am pretty sure it will find it's way into my wardrobe sooner or later. Nice pricing on these too which is really positive for such great scents.

    Thanks.

Tom Ford Patchouli Absolu has a huge dose of guaiac wood. Projects a tarry, smoky, almost dusty, ethereal wood scent that gives the impression of a really dry patchouli.

Congrats on clicking with Garage and Tar. I'm so glad CdG brought these back, otherwise I wouldn't have known how sexy and actually wearable these supposedly "incorrect" compositions were.
