Default Thoughts on Creed's Royal Mayfair ?

    Hey guys...

I know this is a fragrance that's been out for a few years but was considering this one from Creed.....Seems like it might do well in the hot sun here in Florida....

Thoughts ? Seems to have great longevity and sillage but not sure of the smell...I have a sample and it has this benzoin mothball type opening which initially was a complete turn-off but as it dried down that wonderal floral cedar reared it's pretty head....

What do you guys think who have it or have tried it ?

This was my final fragrance purchase prior to the beginning of my MBA. And I'm glad I got it.

It's one of the most unique fragrances in my collection. The "VapoRub" top notes didn't scare me for a simple reason: the floral heart and eucalyptus/cedar base make this unlike anything else I have ever owned, much less sniffed.
It's really quite pleasant, except for the smell (...)

Some people will be haters. I don't consider Royal Mayfair a 'universal' fragrance. Once it dries for 45 mins it really starts giving you the good stuff. I don't use it as a projection monster, but rather try to keep the number of sprays so that it's a personal scent. That first 45 minutes (the opening) seems to be the only polarizing part of the fragrance. The rest of it is really, really nice. I can't stop smelling my arm.

To answer your other question, duration was about average (around seven hours or so), and soft projection.

The only thing i don't like about royal mayfair is batch variations, i've smelt batches that were all eucalyptus & others with a fantastic natural rose drydown.

Longevity is excellent, projection isn't the greatest but you'll get whiffs all day.

If you do happen to get a nice rose heavy batch, oh man, it's the best, most natural rose note i've smelt in a fragrance so far.

I bought a bottle on the strength of a 30ml decant. I like the decant and hate the bottle. I still have plenty of the decant left and have done several side-by-side comparisons. Let me tell you that the degree of variation is not something to be tossed aside lightly. (Rather, the bottle should be thrown with great force.)

I still like the composition concept...in theory.

I can only talk about my personal opinion and do not expect everyone to agree with me. In short I find the juice stunning. It's in my top 3 for sure. You need to give this one time because the Dry down is where it shines. The opening is nice but a bit sharp and harsh. After about 30 minutes it comes into a league of its own and really soften downs. When people talk about a sophisticated smell I immediately think of Royal Mayfair. It has a lovely balance between being subtle while still having good enough legs that it will shine well beyond the 6 hour mark. To me it has an upper class Victorian London era vibe to it.

The dry down is about the only thing I like about it. But to be fair, I was heavily spoiled by what Royal Mayfair was SUPPOSED to be about.....which was the return of Windsor. That turned out not to be the case, as far as I'm concerned.

IMO, if you like this fragrance, the only real star of the show is the 2009 version of Windsor. You can actually smell ALL the notes in the 2009 Windsor, especially in the opening. But that version is long gone and probably cannot be found.

I enjoy Windsor, but Royal Mayfair.....not so much.

I could probably take Royal Mayfair if it was a linear scent, comparable to its late dry down. But getting there is too difficult for me and I have to overlook too many things I don't like about it.

I agree that after it's had time to dry down for about 45 mins (my personal count) it's an addictive scent that is easily the best rose-centric scents I've ever smelled. Very pleasing to my nose. I agree that someone cannot judge it on the opening or they will miss out on a great fragrance.

The drydown of this made me walk into a parked car. Yes, that really happened. After about 10 minutes, this stuff smells intoxicating. I don't know about summer wear, but I did wear this to a funeral during the summer of 2016 and it was pumping with 3 sprays, but smelled beautiful. So I guess it works, if I had to put a season on blast, it would be perfect for spring/fall. Its a gorgeous fragrance that really stands in a class of its own. I literally could not stop smelling my wrist when I first bought this. I smacked my tibia on a Honda Element, and fell on the street in front of everyone. It's good stuff.

Yes......The first hour is probably a 7 out of 10. The second hour is a 9 and 3rd and 4th hour it goes up to a 10 for me.

I wore it to a party a few weeks ago and it it still on my blazer that I wore. Everytime I open my wardrobe door I get a blast from heaven ;-)

Too much like vapor rub in the opening. The dry down is very nice but barely perceptible to me. Seriously overpriced.

The 'vapor rub' opening could be due to the eucalyptus.

The opening is really pleasant to me, but that nice, bright smell seems to die off really fast.

I keep a sample in my travel bags. Always a welcome treat on the road. I have Windsor at home. Both fine fragrances, worth your time, maybe worth your money, too. An immediate dose of comfort, sophistication, and style. Hard to argue with such a winning proposition.

I've got a decant and I like it as a change of pace scent, but I've really got to be in the mood for it. I obtained it in a swap but would not pay "Creed money" for it, even in a split.

Own it and love it also. But, if you live in high heat and humidity it can get cloying if over applied.

I live in the Florida panhandle and wear it year round. Excellent longevity, even if you are timid with the trigger.
