Tom Ford Tuscan Leather. A leather fragrance with cult-status. Do you think it's deserved?

I think it stacks up well against the great leather fragrances in its own right.

Far from legendary, but a cult favourite nonetheless given its niche appeal.

I own it, like it and wore it yesterday in fact, but it's far from the titanic leather scent it's made out to be. If it was made by anybody other than Tom Ford, it wouldn't get anywhere near the adulation it receives.

I think it's offensive and hate it. Unfortunately it's my brothers signature scent, but he's banned from wearing it to my house

I have quite a few strong leather scents, including several vintage, and I could never understand the appeal of TL.

Yep, I had never smelled anything like it before and I can still remember being blown away by something that really stood out from the hundreds of generic smelling new releases at the time. I still like it but I can see how it could quickly become slightly over whelming, it's strong.

now it's "just" a cult-scent. but it'll earn the legendary status eventually imho.

I thoroughly enjoy it, but the legendary status has diminished because the constant release of smell-alikes revealed that it is a very simple fragrance relying mostly on one aromachemical. Legendary fragrances should not be easy to mimick.

Nonetheless, I will never be without a bottle.

    My thoughts exactly.
I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.

Regardless of whether one likes the scent, its impact on the industry is indisputable.
I stick with La Yuqawam PH when I (rarely) want to smell like this because it's close enough while also being reasonably priced.

It's not one of my favorites, but so many people do love it, and it was quite original - and drove so many others to copy it.

So, yes, I suppose it deserves that status.

If truly great, it would not be so easy to copy and perhaps even improve upon.

I don't think the ability to be copied many years later reduces it's impact on the landscape. If truly successful, there will be enough people spending enough resources to do just that. In fact, I think to be "legendary" - you must have people out there copying you (or at least trying to).

There are so many fake paintings in the art world. It doesn't detract from the original. Even if the fake is almost identical to the original. The genius is in the original idea and it's execution. Many have come since copying Elvis, the Beetles, the assembly line, and the iPhone. Being copied proves you did something to be legendary. Being the original mind behind something that takes that giant leap forward is what makes you great. Being a good cover band and just copying others does not - nor does it diminish the one you are copying.

Great fragrance, I really like it. Legendary...? Eh, I don't think it's reached the status of a fragrance like Aventus which has reached legendary status...hyper or not.
