Default A mindless self-indulgent thread - pick what I wear upon return

*Not a thread about the band, apologies to any hopeful Mindless Self Indulgence fans

Starting Sunday, I will be spending a week somewhere that requires me to pack light and isn't exactly fragrance appropriate. In other words, I'll be spending a week without wearing anything. I usually do this once a year anyway when I go backpacking, but sadly that trip did not pan out this summer.

I know what I'd wear when I get back, but I'm curious what the people of Basenotes would pick for me. My wardrobe is up to date, so if you'll be so kind as to indulge me, pick something for me to wear when I get home (click the Idole de Lubin bottle icon under my username to see wardrobe). I'd say pick one, but this is Basenotes and I know better, so feel free to pick 3 or 5 or whatever number.

I'll wear whatever gets the most mentions upon return. Have at it, and thanks indulging me!

Since you are going to reset your nose, I'd start with something light and fresh (it's summer anyway), like Sycomore or Dior Vetiver. You can move up later.

Based on your wardrobe and from a personal viewpoint about what might indulge you best, would say Creed OV- wanted to go initially for another Creed, the perhaps even more luxurious Bois du Portugal, but then thought that Original Vetiver may be even more season appropriate upon your return and almost unexpectedly classy and distinguished for such a fresh, light, casual, soapy-clean scent

Cuir Pleine Fleur - I love it and it's distinctive without being overwhelming. A bit of outdoors, a bit leather soap; good for a return.

Or if you don't fancy that, Au Dela Narcisse. I've never tried that but it sounds good.

If I were in the same situation, I'd want to pick something that made me think, 'Oh boy, isn't perfume a wonderful thing?'

And Jubilation XXV would give me that feeling.

    Amouage Badr al Badour attar

Nothing says 'welcome home' better than an opulent self-indulgent attar.

Maybe that attar . But since it ain't listed in your wardrobe you will get only one vote

Idole will be m second choice
    Au Dela Narcisse third

So far, so good - some of my favorites being listed, thanks!

kewart nailed my go-to. Seeing Diamondflame and Vmaster reminded me of something not listed in my wardrobe yet: Siberian Musk - Areej le Doré

I will correct that and add it in the text at the top with SantL & Atlas Incense II

epapsiou, I don't know what the attar is called but I'll add it in the text too - you'll know which one it is

Your collection is amazing. Including samples, it's even more amazing.

Building on Cacio's suggestion to start light, I will second the suggestion of Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur, which I consider a nice, subtle, artistic fragrance.

Thanks, Bavard! We now have concurrence on two: Cuir Pleine Fleur and Jubilation XXV

This is probably the last time I'll post in this thread before I go. I would kindly ask one of my friend to bump this sometime on Wednesday to keep the self-indulgence going while I am unable to. Thanks

Were it not pointless as such a late entrant, I would suggest Yohji Homme or Slumberhouse. Both houses are based on questioning the usual aesthetics in different ways, and I find such ordeals leave me in a perceptive state that is ready to question things.

But given the trending choices, I like being jubilant with Jubilation XXV.

I would say that you should start off with either Sova or Muscs Koublai Khan to jump start your nose after having been off line for a week. Then follow that up the next day with something fresh like Oxford & Cambridge or Mugler Cologne...

I'll vote for Cologne du 68.
Unlikely to win, but its the most complex, I would be curious to see what your fresh nose picks up on.

I'd go with Chanel Pour Monsieur. It's classic, grounded and welcoming which all work for me when I'm returning home after a brief hiatus both in body and nose

Thanks folks! Just got home - am dead tired but by my count, Or Black won. Happens to be my favorite and most worn, so I was glad to see votes for it. Ruh is my 2nd most worn in 2017, Cuir Pleine Fleur is a recent acquisition but has been worn a lot since - interesting to see all of those mentioned. I agree with Mav that Cologne du 68 is quite complex, so I may throw a spray of that on the other arm and see what happens.

I should have mentioned that Sova wasn't on the table - I (blind) bought one of the re-releases before they sold out, but it hasn't arrived yet. Thanks for the suggestion all the same, Scent Detective. It sounds awesome, hence the blind buy.

    Thanks again all
