Encre Noire is a strong representation of the woody/smoky side of vetiver.

It doesn't get a lot of love here, but Marc Jacobs Bang! is a nice woody/black pepper scent.

Bentley for Men Intense is a great woody/incense/booze scent. [Edit: Also, Bentley for Men Absolute...even more woody].

+1 Rasasi Woody (it has a Haitian vetiver note that is great and persistent but the woods come in nicely in the drydown. This fragrance smells way above its price range IMO.)

    +1 Bentley for Men Intense

Won't call it best, but one I enjoy is Splendid Wood by Yves Saint Laurent.

Chanel - Egoiste (Must mention this contemporary classic, sandalwood spice and everything nice. Shoot for the tall bottle)
Costume National - Homme (Strong cashmeran styled smooth woody/spicy/sweet)
Comme des Garcons - Blue Santal (Fresh take on sandalwood, beats their own Wonderwood and Tam Dao IMO)

Truth is, niche does woody a lot better than the designer realm. Bois Noir, Oud Imperial, Malle's Monsieur, all on high rotation for me at the moment. However, you can get a glimpse into this world:

Encre Noire Extreme for Vetiver and general woodiness. The original is too inky for me, though it's been pointed out to me that's because it's name translates to black ink - fair enough!

If you can afford to pay a bit more Tom Ford for Men is great. This is a far more complex scent and retro masculine.

Egoist is great too, but you need to be ready for it. Chanel Sycomore is great as well but pricy ofcourse.

Check out Dsquared's He Wood Rockey Mountain Wood. Very reasonably priced and well done.

Although not a personal favorite, Hermes: Terre d`Hermes seems to be a popular and affordable one! Bitter citrus, woods, moss and "flint" notes. Tons of ISO e Super in this one if that's your thing!

    Terre d'Hermes

I got a purely pathcouli/incense bomb from Monsieur, but you're right, woods are my favorite classification and some of the better ones I've encountered have been niche. Other than that Cdg does it well.

But as op wants something more affordable +1 for Encre Noire/ Encre Noire Extreme.

However, Woodissime is my pick. That's a top 10 scent for me.

I do love it, scentwise, but it doesn't last long and only projects when I use 15+ sprays. It starts to disappear from the shelves where I love... Discontinued?

+1 for Bentley for Men Absolute

Woody is a wide field, though.. Would be good to have a more specific direction to recommend something suitable. Patchouli or vetiver? Cedar or oud? Some abstract (synthetic) woodiness?

Dang. I totally forgot about that one. Good recommendation. If I didn't already have my sights set on Lyric, I'd wear that today.

hi,thanks for all the replies,to be more specific,i like beckham homme which ive seen described as woody although i find it a bit peppery, for something so cheap i constantly get a smell of it for several hours,so love to find something similar but stronger.

A lot of good suggestions and many I own and enjoy. But I immediately think of TdH as an answer to your question. Vintage Halston Z14 might be a good one too and I noticed M7 was mentioned so you could add M7 OA and Halston Man Amber.
