Default What does my collection need?

    Hi,

Not posted in a while but I'm after a bit of help. I have a relatively good sized collection but not massive. I wonder if you could suggest me something to add a bit more variety/fill a gap. Or maybe you think I've got a diverse enough collection anyway. I'd just be interested in your input. The seemingly endless amount of fragrances on the market can sometimes be daunting, so I thought I'd ask the pros

    Armani - Acqua di Gio
    Boucheron - Jaipur EDP
Chanel - Bleu de Chanel EDP
    Creed - Aventus and GIT
    Dior - Dior Homme/Intense/Cologne, Fahrenheit
    Malle - Musc Ravageur
Guerlain - Vetiver, LIDGE, Heritage EDT
    Lalique - Encre Noire
    Penhaligons - Opus 1870
YSL - La nuit de l'homme, Rive Gauche, M7 Oud Absolu

    Thanks

I would suggest either Millesime imperial,Royal Oud, Oud Wood, Tuscan Leather, Tobacco Vanille and TM pure Malt & pure Havane!

Doesn't need anything! Looks like a very nice group! Maybe an incense like Heeley Cardinal. Or something gourmand like L'Homme Ideal or a vanilla.

I'd recommend Dior Homme Parfum, Hermes Bel Ami Vetiver and Penhaligon's Sartorial.

    Vintage Kouros

Vintage Jacques Fath Pour L'Homme (has a nice amber accord)

Straight to Heaven Splash of Lemon

    Nobile Patchouli

    Fougere Royale

Rasasi Woody (even though you have vetiver basically covered, I feel you have room for this fragrance in collection, especially considering the low price and very well done Haitian vetiver note.)

    Versace L'Homme (thin script)

You have currently an excellent, well-rounded collection. Highly versatile with a couple of heavy hitters like Fahrenheit. You might like to explore an elegant citrus masculine - along the lines of Chanel Pour Monsieur or Lorenzo Villoresi, Uomo.

I agree with others, your scent distribution is very good and minimalist.

You're perhaps lacking in more animalistic scents (Kouros was mentioned), and an incense scent (Sahara Noir?). I'd suggest checking out something more benzoin centered like Body Kouros or Pi (Air).

Niche brands can offer much more diversity since marketability is less critical than designer houses (at lower volumes, less sunk cost). But that becomes an expensive road to follow.

Seconding especially the idea of a good vetiver and recommending particularly Chopard Noble Vetiver, Creed OV, Mugler Cologne for some (re-) testing

I agree that it's a very good, well diversified collection.

I also concur with others that areas you could go into are animalics (Kouros, Etat Libre d'Orange Rien), or avantgardish (CDG2 man, Lush Breath of God).

Perhaps an incense prominent scent as Calzim mentioned.

Maybe a Citrus, I'm personally a huge fan of Pure White Cologone, you can get a 10ml decant since its a little bit pricey, Nio is great as well but pricey. You could also consider something from Acqua Di Parma. They have alot of good stuff for a reasonable price. You might also like Royal Oud.

Great suggestions thus far, but I'm going to toss this question back at you What type of fragrance might you be looking for? Is there a particular note/accord (lavender, tobacco, citrus, etc) that you may be interested in?

This info will greatly help to guide you to your next purchase.

Perhaps an oud laden scent? Not familiar with the Penhaligons, so don't know if that has oud.

I'd recommend an amber. How about Histoire de Parfum Ambre 114 - well priced too in the 60ml size. And a leather type fragrance such as Bel Ami.

Good stuff, no real 'need' here ... but, well ... I'd look for a nice experimental 'weirdo' scent & a good vintage one.

That's a nice small collection. Very well-balanced and solid options. Impressive!

I agree that Royal Oud would be a nice addition as you don't have many "woods" scents. I think Menthe Fraiche would also fit nicely in there. Bleu, AdG, and GIT, and DHC are your real fresh weather scents, and I think it would be nicely rounded out with Menthe Fraiche.

L'Air du Desert Marocain may also work as a woody-spicy scent, sort of informal, but deep and dark and completely different than anything else you own.

And finally, Terre d'Hermes Parfum, because it's just a great, masculine woods fragrance (which again is where, if at all, you're lacking) that would be a solid addition to any wardrobe.

    So, in this order:

    1. Terre d'Hermes Parfum
    2. Menthe Fraiche
    3. Royal Oud
    4. L'Air du Desert Marocain

It's a good working wardrobe so don't be too hasty to expand it until you are certain of what you want. Spend your next $100 sampling stuff to set you up for the next phase of your wardrobe expansion.
