    Default Best Male Oakmoss fragrance

What in your opinion is the best Male Oakmoss fragrance before regulations started regulating its use and also since?
Please don't get hung up on the technicalities of this one. More of an instinctual opinion so two frags if you can. They could also be 2 formulations of the same fragrance if you like.

    All opinions welcome.

Considering the "before & after" regarding the same fragrance, I'd probably say:

    Chanel Pour Monsieur (EdT)

In general, my favorite vintage oakmoss fest is probably Blend 30 - Dunhill. In terms of a modern oakmossy scent, most definitely Au Delà Narcisse (des Montagnes) - Bruno Fazzolari. I'm not sure if it is IFRA-compliant, but it sure doesn't smell like it.

Even today it has the Mossiness required. The shave cream is marvelous too!

R de Capucci for me (thanks to Hirch Duckfinder for turning me on to it). Ladida, I hear you about Quorum, although I recently bought a gift set with EdT and after shave and the EdT listed no oak moss but the after shave did have oak moss and smells amazing (I have a fairly recent gift box of Z-14 that is similar) which is odd because oakmoss is meant to be a contact allergen, and after shave goes straight on to the face.....
Very clearly a case for corn flakes and classics

Hmmm. I have a fairly recent bottle, and the box lists both treemoss and oakmoss extracts. ??

It's gotta be recent, since it has an RFID tag on the box, which is brown with gold-green horizontal radiowave stripes.

One fantastic oakmoss fragrance which is often shamefully overlooked is Bond No. 9's Great Jones.

Vintage classics such as Pour Monsieur and Eau Sauvage come out tops for me more often than not.

Be VERY careful blindbuying Bond no 9. I've tried over 30 of their fragrances and only found 3 that I bought bottles of. They have some great frags, but some scrubbers also. There is a strange grape and plastic note in a few that is awful. Most of their offerings are nuclear projection and longevity, but alas, most of the time there is a chemical smell, something in their note pyramid that turns me off. Great Jones is a decent fragrance, smells like green bar soap. IMO not worth their insane prices, but if you can get a decant for cheap try it.

I've purchased approx a dozen Bond No. 9.. I think every one of them were blind buys.. albeit after alot of research on the internet. I'd say the majority have been successes. I really like Bond No. 9. I got the impression alot of people on here are not fans of it but I must say in my experience all has been good. I intend to add more to my collection. Standout favourites for me are Bleecker Street, Montauk, New York Oud.. Wall Street and New Haarlem to a lesser extent. I quite like Shelter Island also. I wouldn't say any I've bought have been truly disappointing. The only one I smelled that I found horrible was Coney Island.. bleugh!

I'm in the minority that have found quite a few Bonds I really like.
I own and love Great Jones but would recommend Fragrance of Ireland Patrick instead.
It's at least just as good, maybe better, for a fraction of the price.

I love NY Amber, NY Musk, and Herrod's Oud. The hate for the company on BN is mostly b/c of their horrible customer service. They stopped selling samples!!! They expect people to pay crazy prices ($550/bottle for Dubai line) without smelling it? Seriously? They had a great gimmick going with the cute bon bon atomizer samples that they'd sell for a couple of bucks, and they quit selling them. I called them and they were rude. No, we don't sell any samples anymore. You want samples? Buy a bottle we'll give you a few. She acted like she didn't care if I bought from her or not. Told me to come in to the shop in NYC and try them. Sure, I'll drop everything and fly in to NYC. Some people feel that the owner stole most of her good ideas from Creed (who she used to work for) I don't really agree with that although HTTP:// smells suspiciously like Aventus... All in all I get the feeling they are a new company who hasn't "Put in their dues" yet but charges outrageous prices b/c they have that NYC neighborhood gimmick going and some people feel that that is terribly chic. BUT as I said they have a few great frags, and the longevity/projection is crazy good. I have trouble with frags lasting on my skin, so I keep going back with my hat in hand trying to find samples of ones I haven't tried yet.

I understand why that would be disappointing. It's always nice to have some good customer services. I can't speak for Bond as I've never bought directly from them. I always bought their fragrances from Harrods or trusted discounters. As for the difficulty obtaining samples, where I come from it's basically the case with every house though. It's nigh on impossible to get samples so we are forced to blind buy. I'd heard Laurice was Creed's U.S. distributor at one stage.. not exactly sure when though, besides that I hadn't heard anything else about her with Creed. I'm in Europe. I've not tried HTTP.. nor have I tried ASOPFH. I was thinking of buying a bottle of the latter. It can be bought relatively inexpensively from some discounters now and I'd heard some good reports about it's similarity to Aventus. Whilst I am a big Creed fan and I do have all their masculine/unisex releases, I'm not being a huge Aventus fan, so I'm probably more interested in Hamptons and Chez Bond.. I've heard they bear a resemblance to SMW and GIT respectively, both of which happen to be some of my most loved Creeds. I do like Bond for their own unique releases however. Their standalone fragrances that don't smell like anything else. I think Bleecker Street and Montauk take the trophy for that.. I find Shlter Island quite unique too.. slightly femme for me (but definitely wearable). I very much enjoy it though. The marine notes and the oud combined with a nice lemon citrus and light white floral & sweetness. Mmm. I think I'll put some on now!
