We got your point, aestheticindustrialist, no need to hijack yet another thread. Obviously there is an interest in authorised, printed versions, and the ones interested most likely have read your warning in the other thread already..
The synthetic perfume materials are supposed to enhance and support the use of natural raw materials, not to replace them, nor in any way to beat them off the market. The synthetic chemicals present a certain challenge to nature, and the perfumer can assist nature in her fight by utilizing the synthetic materials to the advantage of the natural raw materials. (S. Arctander)

You know I called Allured this week, as I've been looking for an affordable copy of this book for some months now and had spoken with them previously about finding copies for less than $2000. They have no idea who you are and have not authorized anyone to do a reprint. So, I'm not sure who's authorizing you, but it's not the copyright holder. It makes me a little leery about buying a book that's only available on EBay, 4 at a time.

Just curious, have you seen and verified this authorization, NebelGeist?

Also this "thread" is nothing more than an advertisement, the original post adds nothing to a conversation about DIY perfumery.

They say there's a sucker born every minute. Apparently, on a July night almost 6 decades ago, it was me.

I have received my copy of the book, and I have to say that I am quite disappointed. There is nothing in this book that is not available for free, and in more legible form. For the money I paid, I would expect to find at least a table of contents, if not an index. Instead I get poor-quality scans of pages with folded corners, and missing page numbers. And now I have to wonder if I have bought a pirated book, on top of that? Can anyone tell me how to contact Arcadi himself to find out if he's really involved in this?

You can try to friend him on FB, but he is not known to respond well in requests. It took me a couple of years of trying, to receive a reply to a question. Now, he is better with me...

    Clearly a pirated book.

So much for that "authorized copy", eh.

@aesthetic industrialist --- I have reported your posts for trolling.
You really seem to have a problem with this.

If you are concerned that people can get it for free, then please download the material, compile it all, and give it away.

For everybody else, Allured no longer have copyright. It passed back to Arcadi when he severed relationships with them.

Arcadi has given me permission in writing to publish. If anybody wants a copy of what I have from him, then PM me and I will send the scan.

@aesthetic industrialist Why don't you help the community and stop bitching.

The material is so valuable to those involved in DIY

I made it quite clear at the beginning that 2/3 of the pages were scans and 1/3 was retypeset.

If you want to pay $2000 for the original through 2nd hand book dealers then thats fine.

I aint going to argue any more. You dont have to buy it

It's not pirated. See my last posting

for a true reprint you have to have the Original files to print as it was or reset it completely ...

too bad you didn't do it as supposed to
should you ever plan on doing it the right way, I'll surely buy one

That is an interesting re-definition of reprint. As I said, 2/3 scanned 1/3 re-typeset.

    That is a reprint

Yes, only six copies because I am not a big publisher. I am getting these hardback printed from the money
    from my old-age pension.

If you want to call it a copy --- fine --

If you want to buy it or if you don't want to buy it then you have the freedom to do so.

It's funny you suggest this, because you could do this. You clearly have the digital content to make the physical book, because you're publishing it through Lulu. Instead you're making a book out of free content, apparently not even doing a good job at that, and selling it for a profit. Anyone could upload the digital content to Lulu for themselves and avoid your markup and shipping, international or twice-continental.

Furthermore, with the exchange rate, the price US buyers would pay is negligibly less than an actual published 2nd edition, of which there are actual copies available elsewhere for around $130 (Mink pointed out a source in Texas), which would also include a TOC and index. Your original EBay description described your "book" as a reprint, which it's clearly not, as Godmu pointed out, as most bibliophiles would understand that term to mean. Never mind that, as Mink stated, there is absolutely no additional content in the "book" you are publishing than there is available free online. This was my worry in the beginning and has been unfortunately confirmed.

If you want to play a hero, then be a hero and post the digital content yourself; I'm merely trying to point out what you're doing, and I don't think that's trolling.

Personally, I would choose to spend my $130 on chemicals or rent.

And since I've already had all the content of the book, I — and perhaps others here — don't need a physical copy if there's nothing in it exclusive to the printed version.

AHA - so you've changed your mode of your personal attacks. At first it was suggestiung I didn't have permission.

Now you suggest that it is my responsibility to publish the pdf's because I have them. As I recall, it was you that informed everyone that the content was free without ever once in your posts ad nauseum telling people where to get said free material.

Yes --- everyone is totally free to upload material to Lulu or Createspace or any other POD service and get their own. Fine. Please go ahead. I'm not forcing you to do anything. You are a free agent.

It's just that this community may get a little tired of your trolling attacks as your posting record on Basenotes show.

OH yes BTW -- Arcadi Boix Camps RETAINS the copyright. Allured lost it. Arcadi has given me permisssion to reprint.

Hopefully Mods will lock this thread,

The book is sold out again so I am closing the thread. Books are not usually sold through Basenotes but exceptions can be made as long as we are told in advance of the sale.
