So--I was looking for a good image to post, and all the No.5 EP ads are kinda silly--the usual nekkid model with the bottle, or Nicole Kidman in a forest of pink ostrich feathers (they did an ad for just No.5 with the same theme, but it's not as foofy. Go figure).
    So I'm going with this:
Oh, come on...pink feathers Nicole is gorgeous! Seriously, that's one of my favorite perfume ads. Somehow in my brain it's a perfect image for the perfume. But I've been in love with Nicole forever, and I love that shade of pink, and I love the perfume. It's just so much love for me.

I, too, wonder why I ever wear anything else every time I wear it.

Amy, thank you, yes, Rose is so special. And I also love her name, so much that I named the last cat I adopted Rose - not after her, but it was just such a sweet innocent name for my kitty, who is as special as they come. (In the "few cards short of a full deck but it makes her that much more lovable" kind of way.) Speaking of vanilla, I'm planning on going back to some vanilla later on tonight, after Zumba. I've never sniffed the one you're wearing - in fact Ava Luxe is another house I have not explored at all yet. Is that one to try?

(((Cazaubon))) get better soon! I am fighting off a cold too, ick. I can still smell, so that is good.

ErinK, what a sweet story! Thank you for sharing. And add me to the list of people wishing they had flower first names. Rose is a wonderful name, as beautiful as the flower! I am also partial to Poppies in the garden, although "Poppy" as a name is perhaps too close to Poopy! LOL! (Your cat must be so adorable, btw... the "special" pets are so sweet and funny, too, sometimes.)

tds, I smiled at the comment about No. 5 EP being signature worthy-- that is definitely a sentiment often shared by quite a few people on SOTD over the years.

I've been sampling MFK Grand Soir today. Hope everyone had a good day/evening!

ErinK, I love your heart. What a wonderful story Let us know what you decide to give her? And yes, Fumerie Turque is wonderful, especially in the cold.

cazaubon, you poor thing! I can't believe how long this is hanging around. Any chance your doctor was just plain wrong?

What you said about your husband being better with pastry is exactly the case at our house, too, thediamondsea. David is so precise and so patient where I sort of fly by the seat of my pants unless I'm making something for the first time. And even then, I can never stick to the recipe exactly, mostly when it comes to seasonings. As a result, David makes all of the baked goods and all of the cocktails (where precision is a must). Which reminds me ... I was going to tell you about the cocktail David came up with (although we haven't Googled it yet to be sure) the night after we had our cocktail sampling party. Without further ado, I give you <<drumroll>> The Laphroaigian Slip: 2 oz Laphroaig 10, 1/4 oz sloe gin, 3/4 oz lime juice, and 3/4 oz honey, shake and strain. It's a variation on a Last Word. It's sooooo good.

I'm doing some more sampling tonight (shocker!) On the left arm, I have Amouage Gold Woman (pardon me while I pick myself up off the floor after being steam-rolled by ALDEHYDES -- my god, why did no one warn me????) and the new Parfum d'Empire Le Cri De La Lumiere (ambrette, rose, iris -- very smooth and elegant, but I'm getting a strange wet concrete scent; not sure my skin likes the ambrette).

On my right arm, I have Le Labo Labdanum 18 and Iris 39. The Labdanum 18 reminds me of the dry-down of Organza Indecence, and since I wore it yesterday, I feel pretty confident about that similarity. Although I am starting to get a hint of skank, which is really nice. Iris 39 is just plain weird -- what is that I'm smelling? It's almost as if all the irises in full bloom in my garden got knocked down in a wicked rain storm, and then my 11 y/o and all of his friends went running through the mud: iris blooms ground into wet mud. But not in a bad way -- in a very interesting way. I'm just not sure if I want to wear it.

Of this bunch, I like Labdanum 18.

ETA: I nearly died laughing at this line in dead idol's review of Gold Woman: "There’s a soapyness to it, but it’s kept in balance...." I've been wearing this FOR AN HOUR, and the only thing on my skin is ALDEHYDES and the tiniest suggestion of rose.

Also, Labdanum 18 = 4th cousin, twice removed of Musc Ravageur -- all of the spice, tonka, amber, and vanilla, but only a hint of the naughty bits.

I love the pink feathers images for No.5, but the ones for Eau Premiere aren't as attractive to me for some reason. I've always liked NIcole just fine; I liked her even more when she (1) ditched Tom Cruise (because, c'mon, really) and (2) I found out that she and Naomi Watts are besties--and Naomi is my girl. She's freakin fierce in Mulholland Drive, and she was amazing in Twin Peaks the Return, which everybody here needs to see.

And--awwwww. Special kitties are the best! My baby girl Lulu is so smart that I've taught her to sit and fetch and I have to spell words like "treats" around her, but she's also a total dingbat. My husband says like mother, like kitty. Smartarse.

ExtremeK--yup! I hear you, sister. I love doing savory (as opposed to pastry) because of the opportunities for improvisation. I especially love the Random Fridge Item/Mystery Basket challenge.

I'm curling up in bed now, having finished Shantaram; its sequel is queued up in the Kindle app, and I'm ready for a cold, rainy night and a cold, damp morning. Books, cat, and tea--that's all I need. Well, and perfume. And my husband. And my laptop. And good shoes. And that's really all I need. And a couple of cute dresses. And

Tonight's chilly night comfort scent is brought to you by Parfumerie Generale--it's Indochine again, which I couldn't bear to take out of rotation after last month. Yup, getting a bottle, stat. After a few other things, so long as my decant holds out.
