Default Wow. 9 years of Basenotes and I might have a signature scent...

Been drawn over and over past month to Invasion Barbare. Really enjoy wearing it.

What's interesting, is I get no lavender from this to my nose. Mostly cardamom, violet and that clean musk I'd say. I see some reviewers think it's a lavender bomb.

Never saw this coming. I tried a small decant a couple of years back and couldn't wrap my head around it until one final test wear a few weeks ago.
Opted to dive right in and loving it.

Makes me feel very "fresh," centered and ready for the day.

I ought to revisit this one at some stage.

Good for you! You described it well (I detect lavender but wouldn't call it a "bomb"). It's certainly clean/fresh and easy to wear, not to mention very well executed. It doesn't tickle me personally but it's no doubt a solid modern fougere.

As a DC 1913 fan myself, I always assumed it was your "signature" of sorts.

It's been ten years since I discovered BN and I've gone in the opposite direction, requiring a lot of variety.

For some reason this reminds me of our old friend Jock with Scents (aka Barry) who loved this as well. Congrats on your find!

Yes, love DC 1913, but it's mostly special to me because it was the first scent I bought after I joined Basenotes. I got hooked on wet shaving and wanted a masculine rose scented scent. Basenotes digging turned up the Caraceni. The funny part was it was only available at Lucky Scent and I started to order online. Then found out I had been driving past the Scent Bar on the way to work everyday for years........( I thought it was a candle store).

Very nice scent. Not quite my style, but I enjoy wearing it from time to time.

But if you are willing to have a signature scent, then it seems as though your 9 years of Basenotes was for nothing!

Ha. Doubt it. I'd say this phase will last longer than usual, but will be digging out other stuff soon enough.

I am kind of enjoying the consistency for now.

It's fun to have a scent that just feels right day after day. It reminds me of when I first started enjoying fragrance, long before Basenotes.

When I get into one of these monofragamorous states, I just go with it. No matter how long it lasts.

Good to see you picked a class fragrance for shackin' up!

Thought it was going to be Vintage Tabarome. At least you've landed on a fragrance that's somewhat available. Good call on that.

    YES!!!

That's awesome. Invasion Barbare is either my number ONE of all time or number TWO depending on the day (it battles Spice and Wood for the number one spot). It's such a great smell, and the quality of the ingredients are some of the best I've ever encountered. Like you, I don't get a ton of lavender either. I get a lot of that nice musk accord and violet with noticeable lavender but not excessive. Overall, it's just an excellent scent and if you're going to have a signature, IB is definitely one that can pull that off. I'm glad you like it!

    Enjoy!

Invasion Barbare is one I like, but gives me an awful headache. I think the violet leaf is the overwhelming note in it, and probably the thing that triggers the headaches. Very clean and well put together though!

9 years leading to Invasion Barbare? Congratulations are in order then. It is indeed a distinguished scent, incidentally the one I picked for my wedding day some years ago.

Big at your ‘candle shop’ drive-bys btw.

Funny, I tried a bit of Vintage Tabarome last weekend and it didn't wow me (on that day anyway).

I can only offer my condolences, but time heals all wounds and I’m sure you’ll get over it eventually. If it does remain your “signature scent” we will, of course, require you to hand in your Basenotes membership card and undergo the walk of shame.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

Congrats, sir! That's fantastic. Personally, I am more drawn to 1725, which is similar, but I feel like Invasion Barbare is more serious whereas 1725 has a bit more of an understated flirtiness lurking beneath its freshly groomed presentation. Give it a sniff if you get the chance.

Genghis Khan has this addictive "thing" I don't get from any other fougère, and it bugs me. I may have to break down and get the FB.

Glad I have both but wear 1725 a ton more. I also group Masculine Pluriel with these two since they offer a similar feel.
Masculine Pluriel is my favorite of the 3.

    I'd rank them:
    Masculine Pluriel
    1725
    Invasion Barbare

That's a great story, and perhaps just as important as a sig. I got a kick out of the "candle store" part.
