Default Thanksgiving - choosing a scent for a day of family, friends, football and feasting

I always have trouble deciding what to wear on a day like Thanksgiving. It's such a weirdly wonderful day. It's a bit dressed up, for the big dinner, yet it's so casual as everybody hangs out together before and after. Do you put any thought into the fact that it's mixed company and the air will be overflowing with all kinds of food smells?

I'm leaning toward going with something bright, happy and clean, like Castile... but I'm not sure yet.

    How do you decide?

P.S. If you're in the U.S., happy Thanksgiving! And if you're not... happy Thursday!

For me, my choice of fragrance is random just like almost any other day.

I have not decided. Normally I wear something I think will be unobtrusive and not conflicting with food scents, or bothersome to guests. Citrus or light spicy or "tasty gourmands" that will not conflict with foods are nice. Things that are herbacious, pumpkin spicy, etc. I know that I've never had a problem, so I think my choices have worked. I know I've worn Spicebomb at least once.

I'll be wearing Jacques Fath Pour L'Homme. It's a ton of amber and tonka bean with some raspberry. It's a sweet, cozy scent that reminds me of a soft wool sweater.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and everyone else as well

I was contemplating this earlier as well (usually don't think about what fragrance I'm going to wear the day before).
I think I'll probably wear either Heritage or New York Intense in moderation, or maybe just wear Prada Amber Pour Homme
again as it's clean and pretty inoffensive.

I was just thinking about this subject as I woke up in the middle of the night with a bad migraine, trying to calm myself down. Feeling a bit better I hopped on the iPad and saw this thread! I may go with Jo Malone Oud and Bergamot, still thinking it through though. Happy Thanksgiving USA, and/or to the rest!

Going to wear PDM Herod. It reminds me of my father and his pipe tobacco who is no longer with us.
Happy Thanksgiving for those celebrating and to my foreign friends happy Thursday.

This surprises me. Having the large collection and experience I picked you as a structured person with order and the right scent for the moment.

Rockin’ 2 sprays of Sartorial by Penhaligon’s today. It’s clean, classic, inoffensive and people won’t taste it while they’re eating

To answer the question, I gravitate to scents that aren’t nuclear projectors or terribly challenging. I often go the fougere route because they’re both safe as well as versatile.

Sova by Slumberhouse has become a Thanksgiving tradition so I'll stick with that today.

Great choice! Would be my second option, but I'm going with Burberry London. It's a warm, comforting scent that has come to be my go-to for the winter holidays.

These are the type of Basenotes questions that I find most interesting because they call for a bridge of abstraction between things that are also somewhat abstract: a scent and an event (abstract because it has a conceptual basis). This forces the imagination into a demanding mode.

So, to put this in more tangible terms, when it's asked what scent is appropriate for New Year's Eve---at least personally---my starting point is considering the conceptual basis of New Year's Eve (celebratory, new beginnings, etc.) in respect to what smell evokes that concept. And, associating a smell with a concept is simply incredibly interesting.

I believe it's noteworthy and by no means gratuitous to recognize the OP's wise choice in conceptualizing this holiday with a day of family, friends, football and feasting.

So, the day would involve close proximity with friends and family. Thus, I'd opt for a light application of whatever I felt like wearing that day. At the moment, this morning, I'm so far sort of feeling like SMW.

Nice choice. This is an overlooked scent that's great in the fall and winter. It deserves the same recognition as London.

I think I'm going to go with Creed Spice & Wood today. Happy Thanksgiving!

I try to wear something autumnal and maybe a little gourmandish. This year I’m going with Royal Oud just because I feel like it. However, my favorite football scent is Pure Malt.

I'm going with Burberry London too, although the residue of yesterday's Egoiste so nice and perfect this morning; I wish could extend it somehow.

Happy Thanksgiving day for everyone on Basenotes celebrating!

If having to choose one fragrance from your current lineup, would either go for something both gourmand and yet also cozy and inoffensive like Endymion or, perhaps even more likely, clean, fresh and inoffensive but also classy and immensely distinguished like Creed OV, TF Grey Vetiver or Nio.
