Neither me. My least favorite of Les Exclusifs. Just couldn’t compare anything to N*18 cause I’m completely anosmic to it. I’m not exaggerating. Couldn’t smell anything even spraying several times. I still can’t understand.

They are absolutely different. Music is stronger, more agressive on lavender and sweeter (so much amount of ethyl maltol) in the dry down.
In fact, the only one I can compare to Music is Caron pour homme (replace pineapple/ethylmaltol with vanilla).

I blind bought this one based on the note structure and house. For me it’s not overly sweet. I love the lavender, citrus, hint of patchouli and lingering subtle fruity pineapple/ caramel. I can wear Music For a While to work as there isn’t anything offensive about it unless way over applied.

As I said in the dry down I get more of the base notes with just a hint of the lavender still there. Never get the pineapple note.

Thirded. I'm finding this to be an interestingly divisive one, from reading around. I've no experience with Frederic Malle fragrances, however.

Tried it today... the sillage is magical. up close it's a little too much but when it lingers in the air.. phew. It was love at first sniff for me! It seems like it is a crowdpleaser too. I got 2 compliments when I left the store with this on my wrist within a 45 minutes span.

I'm waiting for Premier Avenue to have a sale - I want this so badly. I've been nursing my sample - I get a ton of pineapple, a ton of lavender, and something very geranium/herbal. No sweetness at all until the very end of the drydown where there's a touch of caramel.

Stupid Malle pricing...normal working folk can't afford what they charge here in Canada.

I am in the camp that won't be buying a full bottle. There was too much lavender in it for me.

I much prefer JIcky and the new Mon Guerlain for my lavender. (Also my Pour Un Homme.)

That's funny how it changes from person to person, on me this is a pineapple / ethylmaltol cotton candy BOMB. I get very little lavender with this one.

Tried it today at the store, and my opinion is mixed. This is a sweet lavender, bordering on gourmand, but with restraint. The quality of lavender is very good (as one would expect). I don't like the other sweet concoction of vanilla, caramel and fruits. I get only hints of pineapple (sometimes pineapple and lavender can share some similarities in smell). The patchouli is discernible, but quite restrained (and cleaned up, as one would expect). IMO patchouli acts as sort of a backbone to the lavender-fruit/vanilla/caramel/sugar accord. On my skin it is a little linear. Up close I don't like a lot how it smells, at least initially. Now that it has been there for a couple of hours, it is more refined and appealing. There is a richness to the composition, but it also smells a little synthetic. The sillage is much better.

It is different from other lavender perfumes I've tried (but not too different). Stylistically closest is Eau Noire. But Eau Noire is richer, better and more complex. It is better than simplistic lavender stuff (Boy Chanel, Masculin Pluriel - I never rated these very highly). I don't remember Jersey now. It is not as lavender laden as Gris Clair, Encens et Lavande, Pour Un Homme, Oxford & Cambridge or Antiheroes. It is very different from 'traditional masculine' stuff like Invasion Barbare, L'Occitan, Ungaro Pour Homme II or 1725.

Among the Malle lineup, it is better than Monsieur or Cologne Indelebile. But doesn't come close to something like Superstitious. Or Portrait of a Lady, Carnal Flower, Noir Epices, Une Fleur de Cassie, Le Parfum de Therese, Une Rose, Lipstick Rose, Lys Mediterranee (take your pick ....).

In fact, among the Malle lineup, it is closest to Dries van Noten and Musc Ravageur (on accounts of it being an abstract gourmand). But again, I don't find it to be any better than either.

If you are after a lavender dominated abstract gourmand, this could be of interest.

On a side note, I also tried Dent de Lait, and on paper at least it was quite interesting ....

Edit: No, Dent de Lait is utterly forgettable for me after having worn it from a sample.

It is definitely sweet, and definitely not excessively sweet IMO. The lavender and patchouli help to rein in the sweetness.

I wore it on Saturday properly and it seems a lot more sillage and longevity than most Malles. I had a look and it has 70% compared to the other Malles I own at 79%

The sillage on this is nice, it smells much better than up close. As is the case with many designer perfumes.

Mike, I don't remember Jersey well. But Boy is something that I found completely underwhelming (bland, insubstantial and forgettable) and this is a different perfume (please refer post above). It is neither bland nor insubstantial, but I'm not sure at this stage whether it is forgettable or not.

I just came across this quite brilliant video on youtube in which Frederic Malle and Carlos Benaïm describe the thought process they went through while creating this fragrance.

Should be interesting to watch, even when you're not a fan of the scent.

Just as an aside while we're on the topic of lavender . . .

Tried Chanel Jersey EdP a few times over the weekend (they gave me a coupla samples when I picked up Deauville) and I may revisit for a bottle - it's still 'light' but feels a bit more substantial than the original EdT release without sacrificing the 'pure' lavender quality. Caron PH without the sweetness, basically.

I tried Boy a few times when it was released - bit of a waste of space, if you ask me

Just smelled this for the first time today.

    Wow.

I don't know if I love this enough to buy a bottle, but damn... I respect it.
    Very impressive.

And I got loads of pineapple. Up front, then after an hour it came back.
The pineapple is far different than, say, aventus. It smells like Pinapple chunks, like the heart of the pineapple, if that makes sense. I don't know how they did that, but... yeah. It's nice.
Nothing synthetic smelling about this frag to me. Pineapples, patchouli & lavender with hints of burnt sugar.
    Very artistic stuff. Well done.
Looking forward to future samples & how this reacts in the fall/winter.

I find Jersey the opposite - Caron PUH with added sweetness.

I've still not purchased a bottle of Music for a While, although I'd love one. I just can't justify the cost. I love it, but I don't $300 (or whatever) love it.

Just noticed this thread got bumped so might as well share my impressions. The split for this recently wrapped and the juice will be heading out this week so there should be more perspectives kicking around in a few.

Worn it a few times now and personally I find it to an interesting and unique scent as I haven't smelled anything like this before. The pineapple accord smells half way between the real deal fresh and ripe fruit and its juiced variant as its very dense and concentrated (so nothing like Aventus) and the sweetness is almost palpable which makes for odd yet not jarring combo with the high quality, rich lavender thats tempered with a mildly brusque patchouli which roughs out the bottom end nicely and prevents this from sliding into sickly sweet territory. Masterful blending as it really should not work yet does.

Performance is absolutely insane with it hanging around for days on paper, an easy day well into the night on skin and most noticeable thing is the sillage as the scent just stays suspended in the air for ages and this is its best feature to me as people who walk through it get a whole cavalcade of notes to experience so the wearer does not get a true impression of the fragrance as you are simply too close to the action but all those around you will be nodding appreciatively with twitching nostrils.

Those of you who have a bottle/sample please try a couple of sprays on someone else and smell it then to see what the magic is all about for this one as it can feel "squashed" to the wearer as the juice is radiating off but the effect to a bystander is expansive and perfectly proportioned. Interesting fragrance for sure.

I would have thought little more than "very nice lavender," based on a spray on paper at Barney's, if they hadn't given me a few sample bottles to take with me. After wearing it for full days a number of times, it really showed itself and I ended up grabbing a 50ml bottle. The lavender is indeed beautiful -- rich and woodsy -- and is enhanced by both the patchouli and amber which provide a rich grounding. The pineapple is almost like a yellow filter over a lens, coloring the whole progression. For me, sometimes the pineapple is quite noticeable, other times it seems merely that the lavender has become particularly fruity (as lavender can be).

I've seen some dismiss this as an overpriced take on Caron Pour Un Homme, but honestly the only similarity for me is lavender, which is a rather flimsy connection. The Caron is herbal and cuddly with its vanilla and musk, whereas Music goes to an entirely different place: woodsy, dark, somewhat dense, more "butch-masculine" than "suave-masculine."

In any case, this one is being slept on right now among frag-heads, I think, and deserves a bit more attention.

Yeah, if it's VERY masculine I honestly wouldn't want to wear it lol! I did actually like Caron Pour Homme though. Just for reference, by the way, "too masculine" for me to wear is something like Dior Homme or Dior Sauvage. I tried those ones on once for kicks and giggles, but yeah, honestly, I wanted to wash them off once they were on! Another one is Atelier Cologne in "Mandarin Glacial" or Armani Code for men or "Remarkable People" by Etat Libre D'Orange. (Interestingly I've tried lots of masculines hoping they'll be unisex lol.) I found all of those too manly, and I might possibly find them sexy on a guy (maybe) but I certainly didn't like the way they smell on my wrist! lol But there are some (like Caron Pour Homme) where I just really like the way they smell! lol I can't fully remember but that may have been the one that had that "distilled Christmas wreath" scent that I really enjoy! lol

Is the pineapple note anything like the one in Ananas Fizz by L'Artisan Parfumeur, which I own?

I liked it more than I thought I would, interesting way to do lavender. I liked the folks at the Malle counter in Saks, they were friendly and (relatively) knowledgeable.

After I first smelled Jersey, I realized that lavender goes well with frosty maltol or tonka notes/accords. Even by itself, especially as an absolute, it has a warm, almost burnt coumarinic...well 'sweetness' isn't the right word, but something kind of like a burnt sugar/caramel sweetness. In Music for a While, having it paired up with the pineapple note worked way better than my mental image of how it would. For me, it was an aromatic lavender fragrance first and foremost, and didn't really contain any of the gourmand aspects that I thought it might.

I don't feel the need to obtain any, but I think it's a fun lavender.
