Good afternoon all !. Terry / Kiliwia unfortunately no improvement but I'm not letting it get me down. I have an impeccable attendance record at work (not that I ever get any bloody recognition for it ) and this certainly won't change the situation. I don't do "man-flu" and should be OK for the weekend

Stiff upper lip there Jon - powering through! Hope you are better by the weekend. My father had to be on his deathbed before he would call in sick to work. I think that only happened once or twice in 35 years.

    Happy birthday to Kaern!

I am celebrating Chanuary with vintage No. 19 from a small decant.

    Thanks, Miss Hesta!

l got loads done today, & fortunately my visit to the dentist was quick & painless, but l'm pretty tired now. Mr teardrop still isn't quite well yet either, but he's working away like a trouper, bless him.

l'm wearing L'Heure Bleue this evening, which l haven't worn since September 2016!

    Jon . . .
All the men in my family are like this ^^^^. Even the mister, God bless him.

I woke up super early today because I thought I had to take the kitty in for some dental work (a cleaning and possible extraction of a kinda questionable-looking canine), but then I realized that the mister had fed her this morning, and that's a no-no when anesthesia is involved. (I know anesthesia-free is the way to go, but y'all haven't met my ginormous cat with her Flintstones-looking teeth. Even the intrepid folks at the vet clinic stay clear of her once she's riled up. Fortunately, she has chilled out a lot since she came to live with us, and that temper almost never shows up anymore; and, when it does, it's over in a flash. She's a sweetheart, just a big awkward one with a few issues. Aren't we all, really?) So I sprayed on some Blanche Immortelle and then crawled back into bed. Now that I'm awake, again, I feel like digging around in the sample stash and seeing what happens--there has to be some buried treasure in there for a day like today, which is chilly and foggy, and requires something to combat its moodiness (or perhaps to compliment it, if I the right option presents itself). I'm really in the mood for Jovoy Psychedelique, but I can't remember if I have any left . . . .

And I have a headache brewing, which almost certainly calls for patchouli.

After a quick search through the sample stash, I have determined that there is not quite enough Psychedelique for a good afternoon-to-evening's wearing, dangit. Maybe I do need a FB after all.

Going for broke instead in a full-on patch with some fruity aspects from a house that I think deserves a lot more love than it gets around here: Farmacia Ss Patchouly Indonesiano. Although I must confess that smelling this patch is making me crave Coromandel, which I will probably have to hit up before the evening is over.

So I'm noticing that this patch, which is also fairly dirty, has a note that reminds me of damp and rotting vegetation--a note that's common to all the high-quality patchoulis I've tried, and which I assume is part of its botanical character. When I smell it in the summer, I can't shake the associations with the south Texas/Louisiana bayous (an interesting place to visit, but not so much to live in, at least for me--Quarry, if you're reading this, you know what's coming next--because when I get a whiff of that smell, all I can think of is Houston. And I love my friends in Houston, I love many aspects of the town and the art and culture and food nexus therein, but its climate is a frickin nightmare of stifling heat, suffocating humidity (from our lovely, ecologically sound, scenic Gulf of Mexico) and sucky pollution. That's Houston in a nutshell--good people, hidden gems, stifle/suffocate/suck/repeat--an asthma attack waiting to happen, in other words. And wow, that is a long digression. Sorry!) because it really does smell like a swamp. In the winter, this same smell acquires an attractive, dusty quality that reminds me of oakmoss (something that, now that I think about it, thrives in humid climates (albeit coolers ones)--I bet a large portion of that swamp smell is all the tree moss. Hmmm) and it nicely compliments the spicy aspects of patchouli.

The question then becomes this: how many months of the year can I really wear this kind of thing? (I think the answer is probably 5ish, and even then patchouli is not an everyday thing for me, necessarily, because of the hippie associations. No offense intended to my hippie brothers and sisters--we're all freaks together, especially where I live, but I'm a crabby old punk and that's where our differences lie). Is it worth a bottle or a decant? And do I need to revisit Reminiscence Inoubliable Patchouli? Because that stuff is the bomb--and goes for a fraction of these other two, or at least it used to. Oh, decisions decisions decisions--I'll probably turn into a patch fiend and have to have them all before it's all over. Hate turning to love turning to obsession--story of thediamondsea's perfume life .
