HdP 1725 Casanova. This one benefits from a little time settling in before becoming scrumptious. The opening is a bit brash. However the drydown has a quality about it that will cause people to gravitate to you. What seems pleasant and near dismissible renders subconscious control over those close to you. Mind control without having to snap your fingers while whispering, “sleep”.

    Okay,

I think this bottle of The Noir 29 has settled down after owning it for 2 years now. The scent is not as high-pitched (for lack of a better description) and seems more mellow than when I first bought it. There is more depth to it now. I supposed I can say now that it has less of a feminine tone to it and has aged into more to a unisex scent. It's really hard to describe the tone/accent I'm talking about, but, like Aqua Net hair spray used to smell when I was a kid with the high pitched chemical smell is like what The Noir 29 had when it was brand new and very fresh.

The best part of this fragrance is a woody, deeper tone in the base of this that I've always been able to pick up and it's why I bought it. Now 2 years later that deeper set of tones is more apparent and that pitchy over-the-top thing is much more subdued. I love how this smells now that it's macerated for 2 years. I highly recommend that if you're going to buy a bottle of The Noir 29 to consider buying a 2+ year old bottle used rather than a brand new one. I think the scent is much, much better than it was originally. The slightly herbal and woody notes along with a very small hint of ?black pepper? is playing with the fig and fig leaf notes. This is one of the best fig fragrances as it is right now, but I couldn't say that when it was a fresher bottle.

I'm really enjoying this one. 2 sprays is perfect. It's a strong fragrance and I think it's best to stay reserved on the application with this one. Anymore than that and it will definitely cloy/annoy. I think part of getting the most enjoyment out of this one is finding that proper number of sprays.

    Azzaro Pour Homme Intense (2015)

Y'know what this is a lot like? Tom Ford Fougere d'Argent. Both are warm, resinous takes on the fougere with a synthetic feel, but the Azzaro is the one with the more interesting development on skin.

To think I (thought I) was getting sick of it about a month ago, but the last three times I've worn Anubis (including tonight)...what was I thinking?!? Good thing I didn't do anything rash and try to sell it.

Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille. This was my SOTE last night, and I woke up to the beautiful smooth vanilla dry down. Even in the modern formulation, this stuff has incredible lasting power. While it is not as interesting as the opening with all of the spices, the dry down is delicious.

Sud Est by Romeo Gigli (1995)

I've already sung the praises about this stuff a lot, so I'll just say that it's such a nice mix of herbs and calonic freshness on a dry mossy base, perfectly merging 80's and 90's styles. Sadly, these kinds of compromises end up being so divisive they either whip up people into foaming packs of wild dogs in argument or just get alienated altogether and end up going under the radar. I think the reputation of the original Romeo Gigli also greatly overshadows Sud Est to the point people unfairly assume it's "the bad one" of the pair because it's not unanimously loved like its older brother.

    Mont Blanc Explorer.

    Better than Aventus

Well, not really. Opens with tart bergamot before evolving into an Aventus-like heart. Easy wearing tart fruit and woody fragrance. An easier dumb reach than Aventus. I like the lack of oak moss, and the omission of other elements like smoky birch and vanilla help make this Aventus lite. Rather than Aventus clone I’m enjoying the sheer woods: I’ve enjoyed Maisondieu’s use of woods in his work with CdG and the pine in Burberry London. I think this scent is a good recommend for people looking for an easy wearing, crowd pleasing woody scent.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.
