Yeah, I'll probably peruse it more later when I have time. I saw they even had Eau de Monsieur by Annick Goutal so who knows what other unexpected lines they may carry.

Looks like they're using some old stock photos unless they're really selling vintages?

I ordered a bottle of Eau Sauvage EDT. It did have a picture of the vintage box in the ad. I did not receive a vintage box or version of the frag. It was 2017 batch.

I would say that they just stick with old ad pics.

It was such a stellar deal I ended up getting a few more. Oh goodness I'm going to be overrun with new scents.

    I bought:

La Chasse Aux Papillons by L'Artisan Parfumeur
    Ellenissia by Penhaligon's
    Princess by Vera Wang
    Champs Elysees by Guerlain

I think CVS uses Fragrancenet or another discounter like Perfume Center of America aka Perfume Worldwide aka Scentmonkey. If you noticed, like Walgreen's, sometimes CVS has several prices for the same sized fragrance. A Walgreen's rep told me the reason is that they get them from several sources.

At $51.29, CVS' price for Dior Homme Intense was much better than the price from Fragrancenet with a 37% off code, but the reviews describing the weakness of the recent formulations kept me from buying it.

Isn't the 40% sale expired? They only have 30% off this week and the DHI is now $59.84. Please report back regarding the performance of the DHI along with the batch code.

I got Rochas Man from Target sometime ago . Everyone said that RM was the best .
I got it from Target . I sprayed it on and it was pure alcohol in the opening .
    I mean that was it.
After that faded I got something sweet, then it was gone.

I got Givenchy's Play Intense from Target .
I heard about the tonka and how it was different , but also that it was very good .So I got it.
After I put it on, I was very confused about the tonka thing.
I washed it off the best I could . Then I reapplied it.
I asked someone what they thought .
This was their words exactly " Has that gone bad ? "
There was another one, but I don't remember it now.
I did keep one from Target.

I have tried both Rochas Man and Givenchy Play Intense since then from other sources ,
and I can for certain say that those, from Target , must have been stored in the worst of conditions .
    Seriously .

I remember now the other bottle I got.
Perry Ellis 360 Red. I kept it , but gave it to my brother.
    It wasn't bad.

I would like to suggest that when these deals come around , and they will,
not to brake the bank , but to rather nibble .
Especially,if your unsure about the brand or new fragrance that you might not know all that well.

That said the deals are out there .
They'll pop up everywhere and for all different reasons .
New bottles , reformulations , overstocked , raising capital for a new line, the list goes on.
I just missed the clearance prices on Wal Mart's TV's they carry.
They had the Vizio's going ridiculously cheap.
Yup, they sold them out, but they have Vizio's new line coming in.

So deals can be had, just make sure that your not the one being had

Oh, BTW . Target took back those fragrances with no questions asked .
I got them online ,but I took them back to the store with receipt .

Here's a really cool guy on You Tube that covers fragrances that might be questionable.
His channel is called Fragrance Tattoo
    https://www.youtube.com/user/tattoofun2003

    Here's one of his videos

I have Fragrance Tattoo subbed and belled.
Good guy . I like um.

    best wishes

They have the 30% off sale active but the "40% off 1 Regularly-priced item" coupon code just worked for me. Use code CVS40FORU. Just worked for me to score a 3.3oz bottle of MPG Parfum D'Habit for $72.

Wish they had Amouage's Interlude Body Wash/Shampoo .
    That one usually sells out.
You used to be able to find that one for $50 to $60.

I've watched quite a few of the Fragrance Tattoo videos over the past year to check my bottles against his. The 200 ml bottle I bought from Amazon direct (not 3rd party) for $50 over the holidays looks and smells real.

Your comments about Target are interesting. Did you pick them up during the great Cyber Monday sales they have with the stacked codes? I've bought probably near 30 bottles over the last few years during those sales, and the only problem I've had is with a 5 year old bottle of Lagerfeld Classic. I took a partial credit rather than a return because it was still strong (the cap was broken, though) and it's a Coty version. Interparfums makes it now and it's slightly different.

I've written a number of times on Basenotes that Target has used Scentmonkey for most of their fragrances. If you check the tracking info. you'll see that most bottles are shipped from the location of Scentmonkey's parent company, Perfume Center of America aka Perfume-Worldwide, which is Long Island in New York. This is an article from a few years ago about the company
    :]

Did you check the batch codes and match up the box and bottle codes for the bottles that smelled off? There's a good chance they were old and it's also possible they were counterfeit. Remember that these 3rd party distributors are obtaining bottles that may have been passed around from retailer to retailer to closeout to other distributors. The environmental conditions in which they were stored or shipped could have been terrible. It's also possible they were tampered with.

I've returned a few bottles to other discounters including Fragrancenet because the scents seemed way too weak and the bottles were over two years old.

The pre-2016 DHI was said to last 10 hours with good projection for a decent part of it. The reviews for the current bottles state it's much weaker. I look forward to seeing a quick review and the batch code. Thanks in advance.

I've ordered from Fragrancenet and for the most part everything was fine.
There's been a couple , mainly Serge Lutens , that didn't work out all that well.
It wasn't just the scent itself, it was a whole batch code issue .

I got samples directly from Serge Lutnes .
That's why I decided to buy a few , for I liked them.
When I got them , from Fragrancenet ,I noticed one was just so weak, and parts of the smells were missing.
So I checked the batch codes , and they didn't match.
Then I did more checking and found out that the way these bottles were marked were incorrect .
Raiders of the Lost Scent was one place I checked , among others .
That's when I decided to get in touch with Serge Lutens themselves .
Their reply was that these were not codes that Serge Lutnes uses .
They also said that if I needed help in resolving this matter that they would help.
I figured it to be a one off, there were also box and bottle codes that didn't match ,
with the other Serge's, but I figured it was in the production that something must have went wrong ,and that's why I was getting a deal.
    So I never pursued it.

Here's the other reason, the real big reason . I have a number of other fragrances from Fragrancenet,
and to be truthfully honest , I just didn't want to know.
I just put on Prada Luna Rosa Sport this morning .I got it from Fragrancenet , it's fine .

Anyways, when it comes to imports everyone here knows how that goes.
At one time Japan called an Island of theirs USA .
To import here in the US, you need to have place of origin marked on the item.
Japan had USA marked on it's jeans etc. The US got upset and told them they couldn't do that.
So they marked it USA/Japan .That didn't work well either .

I collect antiques . I've watched a percentage of my antiques get counterfeited .
They have to mark the product with a sticker of origin , correct.
Well they also can incise a mark too.
Sticker China placed over the incised mark of the fake antique .
When the products leave the docks they just tear the sticker off ,
and the fakes make their ways out.
A recent report was out about how Russia was doing it.
Same thing , different way. I wish I could find that right now.
It might be under ZDNET, Market Watch , Ruters, I'm not sure.
It's " How Russa gets past the radars " , something like that.

I'm glad for the Green article. It's from 2015. Cool.
Wish they would bring back some of those tax incentives here in the states.

I am not saying somethings Rotten in Denmark, but what I am saying is what I got , a FEW times , sucked .
Every time I try to mention it , someone gets upset.

I have those two bottles from Serge still.
Maybe one day I'll do a video for people here , on Basenotes, to show you.
I've got a bottle of Amouage from Fragrancenet that doesn't last AT ALL.
I've got a bottle from BeautySpin/Notino of Xerjoff that the packaging was horrible .
That's was OK, sometimes that's how we get the deals , but it's missing any neroli , among other aspects of the fragrance.
I know what the fragrance is supposed to smell like. I got samples of it.

I still got through fragrancenet .I get tons of samples from them.
The last bummer deal I got was a L'Artisan .
I could barley smell it. I have samples of it too.
What was it, Noir Exquis . I think that's how you spell it.
I read a bunch of reviews that Noir Ezquis lasts and projects, but when I got it and put it on , nope.
That was the same with filles en arguiles .
I put it on and it was gone.
So I pulled out my samples that I got from L'Artisanof Noir Equis and I compared them .
    Night and day.
I think it has to do with storage , or how it was stored over from where ever they got them from.
Plus I got fucked up codes.

Also I got Acqua di Parma's Essenza from Notino's .
I had a problem with that . I wrote to AdP , emailed , and told them about it.
Their reply was that maybe the top being missed might have to do with temperature fluctuations. AdP signed the reply " Warm Regards " .
I let them know where I got it from . Oh, the batch code was good .AdP placed it in 2016. I sent the email sometime in 2017.

The mentioned above are exceptions in my collection .
    Not everything was a problem.
As a matter of fact, I mostly had a great experiences .
That said though , I do believe some shit does slip through .
I just can't deny the fact that it does, just because of what I own already.
Next time whatever it maybe that, I feel is not completely right , goes back.
Fragrancenet is very good about taking things back .
I did contact them about the L'Artisan and they responded exceptionally .
I still have it . The bottle is spot on. The glass is smooth and clean and not hazy and greasy.
    Beautifully signed too.

I will do a video someday and upload it here .
I just don't want people going bat shit crazy calling me a liar , and that I had the bottles made or doctored the video.
I can't do that, for I'm just not that smart.

    Sorry for the spelling.
You can correct me if you want.
    Thank you for your reply.

Interesting stuff. I know what you mean about posting questions about problem bottles.. For some reason, some on this forum get upset when you criticize discounters. I don't understand why.

What amazes me is that these companies are willing to help even though they know you bought the bottle from an unauthorized source. I wanted to confirm an aftershave/edt gift set of Le Male that I was sent by Fragrancenet a few years ago The box didn't have a UPC code. A rep for John Paul Gautier wrote back and said that they only answer questions if the purchase was made at an authorized retailer.

The only thing I'll correct is the Japan/USA story. Years ago I too used to tell that one until I learned it wasn't true.

    https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/made-in-usa/

The phrase “Made in Japan” came to symbolize cheap, shoddy goods to Americans, and eventually the rumor arose that Japan had sought to avoid this stigma by deviously renaming one of its towns “Usa” so it could identify its products as being “Made in USA.”

This rumor was almost certainly a tongue-in-cheek joke inspired by someone’s noticing the coincidence of a town in Japan named Usa (and perhaps fueled by American xenophobia or lingering resentment of the Japanese). In fact, the Japanese city of Usa (on the island of Kyushu) was not created by renaming an existing town; it was called Usa long before World War II. As well, nearly every country that imports goods requires them to be marked with the name of their country of origin, not a town or city, and it would have taken some circuitous (and probably expensive) routing to get goods marked “Made in USA” into other countries without anyone’s noticing that they had originated in Japan. America, especially, Japan’s largest market by far, would certainly have noticed the incongruity of goods marked “Made in USA” being imported into the USA.

The batch code is from 2017.

That's kind of what I was afraid of. See if you agree with these Fragrantica reviews regarding the longevity of the 2017 bottle:

I have nothing to go off for DHI but of but I can say that plenty of older Dior frags are more powerful and last longer than newer formulations.
