Thread: Sharp smell

    Default Sharp smell

Hi , total beginner here.. I'm noticing on the few scents that i have made, all of them have a sharp smell at first that almost burns my nose. Is this the alcohol? If so, will it change after sitting a while? Or is it about rounding out the scent better so it's more complex? I feel all the top notes are very sharp and unpleasant/ overdone , but after a while it smells much better.

Try lower the top notes around 10-20 % of the formula is enough.

    Topnotes round out with maceration.
But really, since you don't mention what you are using, or percentages, it is hard to make further comment.

Thanks all. I didn't get into detail because its just something i noticed in general with most of the scents i've made. I am also smelling them right after mixing most of the time, so I will see if maceration helps it mellow out. Will try use less top notes in future formulations.
