Default Does the price of any body wash/shampoo make a difference?

Dollar Store brands vs. Bath & Body brands?

In my experience there is indeed a difference. The very cheap ones do not smell that good (they smell okay initially as you lather, but the after-scent / dry down on skin is often not that great), and often leave the skin dry. I haven't used Bath & Body Works, but L'Occitane's shower gels are excellent. I haven't used high end ones such as Malle. At the cheapest end of the spectrum I usually vastly prefer soaps to body washes / shower gels. Of course, there could be exceptions. I currently use an American Crew shower gel which is okay. Likewise, in the context of shampoos and conditioners, I do think there is a difference.

I personally find a difference mainly with variety of offerings. Less so with profound quality difference.

I haven't tried bath and body. But going up in price a bit does give you either better smell, or less harsh products. whether one wants to spend on them is a different matter. I like to splurge of expensive perfume shower gels, but that's just me- cheaper stuff would do just as well.

The skin on the body can usually withstand a harsher cleaning product, though there are people who are sensitive. If forced to choose, I'd rather choose a better quality face cleanser than shower product, as the face has a more delicate skin.

it is said that the more expensive have better quality control. more consistent product. but sometimes the off brand is just name brand re-labeled

I believe pretty strongly that there’s a difference. Better ingredients and better quality ingredients. Quality products smell better, rinse better, and leave your body and hair feeling better. Inexpensive products tend to be very effective at cleaning. Phosphate based detergents are effective and cheap. But, they aren’t good for you, and they aren’t going to give you that silky, soft, hydrated result.
