Mukhallat is an Arabic term meaning blend or mix that contains oud. It is an attar with oud but attar is an Indian term.

These terms are nowadays interchangeable but traditionally, Ittars are not blends. They are steam distillates of flowers/earth/vetiver etc in sandalwood oil. Or are supposed to be.
Mukhallats are blends. And I don't think they need to have oud in them but most do.
Also ittar is Indian term and attar Arabic.

Kannauj is trying to get GI Trips thing (like champaigne) for its attar and hopefully that would make distinction easy between terms.

    I stand corrected.
