    Not in my experience either.
    Remember that while it is perfectly acceptable to criticize the content of a post - criticizing the poster is not.

    No. The primary sealing mechanism is in the sprayer itself.

    As tensor was saying, in a crimped on spray bottle, the seal is in the sprayer mechanism. In a splash bottle, of course, the situation is different.

    The cap just protects the sprayer, keeps it from accidental damage or unintentional spraying etc.

    From a personal viewpoint alone, even in the case of splash bottles more exposed to air: no impact or at the very lest little to minimal perceptible influence

    Many fragrances don't even have caps.

    Terre d'Hermes & its flankers don't have caps. They have twist tops that are open from above.

    The A*Men series don't have caps. The sprayer is built into the rubber flask.

    Some Claiborne scents (Curve & flankers, Lucky No. 6, etc), don't have caps. They come with a clip that locks the sprayer from being pushed down.
