I agree, but I consider them artisanal not niche.

Going there, I’d say Mellifluence is worth the money, usually around US$80 for 3 mL of amazing attars. Wearing Saudia now.
FYI: I spray all fragrances on clothing, never on skin.

The World in Scents would be my vote. I do like MFK also.

That's a shame. Probably traveling is best if you do that anyway.

There is definitely a LOT of hit or miss with the brand. Mark seems to just make whatever tickles the fancy, and his "playing by ear" skill level shows through sometimes too. When they hit, they really hit (e.g. Smuggler's Soul is a fantastic vetiver).

And Smuggler's Soul is the one I have! I have it as the solid, which is nice to rub on my skin when I'm just lying around the house.

I also fancy Dirty (minty fougère), Lust (animalic jasmine/rose), and Karma (hippie juice lol) as well.

What is the difference between artisanal and niche? I assumed that niche is a general category which comprises artisanal.

Artisanal perfumes are like "Extra niche niche" because they are offen hand made in non-duplicable (thus semi-bespoke) batches the same way grandma makes her apple pie without measuring cups, plus in very small sub-1000 bottle runs sold directly by the perfumer through their social media or website.

In a sense, they are just niche perfume taken to one specific extreme, but like in music circles, fans prefer to divide and subcategorize because they can be like "it's not heavy metal, it's extreme progressive post-hardcore" etc.

Not saying OP above does this, just the vibe that subsection of the community gives me after spending time in Areej and Bortnikoff threads.

Fragrances are very expensive here. But I would like to buy fragrances from Acqua di Parma and L'Artisan Parfumeur one day, if possible.

    I categorize this way:

    designer
    niche
    artisanal

I find most niche is over priced and not worth it usually. But there are exceptions. Serge Lutens and Frederic Malle have some great fragrances. I love Geranium Pour Monsieur and Noir Epices for instance.

I enjoy a few other niche -- some Diptyque for instance. I consider Guerlain niche and love many of theirs. Amouage is a passion of mine in this category. Parfum de Nicolai (since renamed but I can't remember the name)

Mostly I enjoy artisanal -- where they perfumer is independent and often does his or her own formulation and production. Olympic Orchids is a fabulous value here for the price.

I also enjoy Sultan Pasha, Bortnikoff, Areej le Dore, January Scent Project, Mellifluence, Slumberhouse, Not Perfumes, Elixir Attars, Bruno Fazzolari (might be considered niche), The World In Scents...
FYI: I spray all fragrances on clothing, never on skin.

Just toss "Haute" or "Maison" in there and you can add another $100 easy to a bottle.

I rarely am willing to pay full price for anything, but the few that I have, I often regret.

I bought 1 Armani Prive at retail, but only because it was discontinued.

I bought one Dior exclusive and regret it.

I bought one Xerjoff and regret it.

I bought 1 Amouage and regret it.

I bought several Chanel exclusives at retail, but that was before the prices went crazy.

Otherwise, I think ELDO is fairly priced. I think Hermessence travel bottles are worth the price, only because I can get a few and not waste money on a big bottle I'll never use. I think Lutens export bottles are fairly priced. I also think Laudamiel's scents are a great deal for the creativity and novelty you get.

Im not really into artisanal or indy stuff.

I don't like to be "fan" of any brand, but I'm a de facto "fan" of Frederic Malle. This is the first niche brand I tried, my starting point, and where I kept coming back to. I bought the 10ml travel sizes of all of their perfumes, except the citrusy perfumes and oud. No brand on earth can make me like citrusy, as for oud...well, even for a fan, FM's oud are overpriced.

Though I'm not so sure about their latest release Rose&Cuir, even though it's made by the demigod JCE. It's a geranium somehow manage to be watery, like a green fig. I mean, not a bad scent, but if I want a green fig perfume...I'd go straight to buy a green fig perfume.

Indeed. When nothing’s been changed except for the packaging and disproportionately heftier price tags, somehow you can’t help feeling ‘shortchanged’.
