Question Maison Francis Kurkdjian - Baccarat Rouge 540

How does this wear during the day? Is this something for someone who is into subtle fragrances? I dont want anything beastly.

Anyone wear this and get tons of compliments?

This reminds me of a Bond No 9 fragrance. Maybe, Chinatown?

It wears just fine. Just my experience. One should just not overdo it IMO.

I don't think it's beastly, it wears nice for me. That said, if by subtle you mean something that blends in, this probably isn't it. It's unique to me, especially in the opening. That cotton candy smell is unique, and I think in the dry down it changes and blends into some other notes. It's one of my favorites.

definitely not a beastly fragrance, it is on the softer side. I think this can be easily worn, cant imagine choking anyone out with it.

Well, it might be kind of beast mode, but doesn't punch you in the face. It's like an ever present aura, until you become basically anosmic to it - but others will still smell it?

    Go easy on the sprays.

Not sure if quite reminds me of anything else except for maybe some kind of like... strawberry teenie bopper body spray/mist? Haha. It's not a bad frag, but I don't love the smell and I don't necessarily get the hype. Though I admit I did fall victim to the hype, and my gf liked it from a sample I wore (extrait probably). So I got a bottle of the extrait, and then sold it. Decent smell. It's weird because it seems like a normal smell but then it also seems abstract. Like familiar but you can't really place your finger on WHAT it smells similar to.

I'm not someone who gets showered with compliments, but this draws them no question.

I've not smelled many Bond No. 9s, but I have smelled Chinatown. I don't remember thinking 'Baccarat Rouge!', but will keep it in mind.
Huh, expected the Rocky mountains to be a little rockier than this...

My thoughts exactly, and I think I might know why it seems as abstract as it does.

Baccarat Rouge 540 is almost entirely synthetic. Kurkdjian has said in interviews that his goal was to create a scent using entirely synthetic ingredients. According to him, he ended up adding a bit of natural citruses to the final product, but the vast majority of the scent is synthetic. Because of that, I suspect it's easy to interpret as being different. Just like you said, it smells familiar, yet abstract. I like it, and every time I've worn it, I find myself thinking "I feel like I recognize this... it smells familiar, and yet not at all familiar." It's so strange, but I like it a lot.

I haven't committed to a bottle of it yet because I'm not sure if it suits me... but I like it a lot.

A good way to experience this is to get the official sampler of 8 frags ....11ml of BR is more than enough for some good memories.
I wouldn't get a full bottle, but that's just me.

This is an easy fragrance to wear in an office situation for example, but keep the sprays down. It's one that is difficult to smell close up but you will definitely have an aura of it around you all day. It is very sweet so I'd definitely recommend sampling if you can. On me, it starts off as candyfloss (cotton candy) and turns to a sweet danish pastry type smell later in the day.

No none of the above. IMO it was one of the most underwhelming scents from the MFK line.

Its a unique scent, thats for sure. Went through a bit of a craze with it on the splits where we went through about 4 flacons back to back as everyone who participated in the first one enjoyed it so much that their comments ushered in more members who dove in blind and every single one of them really dug its contradictory nature as its both light and heavy, simple yet complex, warm and cold.

Very multifaceted and also strong so a decant would suffice as it can induce anosmia with ease. Was once described as smelling like crushed rubies that had been whipped into candyfloss and that is accurate as it alternates between being this huge amorphous, billowy cloud of warmth and something surgically cold and full of sharp angles but yet still remains eminently wearable and was well received by those in my vicinity when wearing.

    Go for it.

I like it but my lady thought it was way too sweet and does not enjoy it at all. Test before you buy as it’s a dessert like scent.

To answer your question, it has both a subtle and powerful feel. It has good density - not too transparent, not too thick. It will be easily detected slightly beyond your personal bubble. Not a beastly fragrance and from my experience the Eau De Parfum wears slightly better than the Extrait.

The EdP projects quite a bit. Others smell on me and give compliments even though my nose does not recognize it. I prefer the extrait a bit more to the EdP because it wears a bit closer, is richer, and has more depth.

But isn't the extrait more concentrated? If so, shouldnt it be more beastly?

My understanding and experience with the extrait when compared to the EdP (of the same scent) is that it has less alcohol % and higher ingredient concentration. Thus the extrait tends to project less and wear closer to the skin, aka less beastly.

This one is a beast. If a woman in the restaurant wears it everybody will smell it. It is extremely popular in Moscow and I smell it everywhere but never saw a man wearing it.

    +1

It's a bit too feminine for me but the performance is strong
