Default Best substitute to Gucci Rush for men

Need a quality substitute. Fragantica says the closest scent is Azzaro Visit. Rush use to be my signature fragrance but I just cannot fathom spending $200 with how much I needed to re-apply throughout the day. I went through several bottles in the early 2000's.I have Sartoriale but it still falls short. Is Azzaro visit actually a closer resemblence? Any other suggestions for a quality fragrance that is similar?

Visit smells much cheaper and synthetic to me. Like a cheap knockoff.

Sartoriale by Pal Zileri is supposed to be in the same ballpark, but I haven't smelled it. Reputedly had shy performance, and is discontinued. You can still find it around for about $30.

    Oh..you have Sartoriale. Hmm..

Trend Lui by Les Copains is recommended by some. I've never smelled that one either.

Layer equal parts of CdG Wonderwood and Diptyque Tam Dao EDT - this is as close as I think you’ll ever get to the original Rush.

Not one for layering, but this sounds like an interesting combo.

I'm not into layering, either, and I own 4 bottles of Gucci Rush so I have no need for substitutes, but... this topic has come up somewhere else in the past and given the criteria I've experimented with some fragrances just to see what would happen. I think the combination of Wonderwood and Tam Dao is an excellent approximation of what Rush smells like. This combination covers all notes in Rush - creating a very similar, slightly spicy, woody, creamy sandalwood cloud. One of the few layering experiments I actually enjoyed tinkering with - and happy with the final result as well.

Never tried the original Rush but I've read that Milky Musk is similar.

Agreed. Rush was all I wore for almost 10 years and this seems like it would come close. To the Op: Post up in the ‘fragrances wanted’ thread and see if someone will sell, trade or decant you some. Maybe Remik can help ya out.

Byblos Sandalo is a nice sandalwood that is “rounder” and has a bit more going on.

Proraso Red aftershave/cologne splash... Smells great and for about $10!

+1 Sartorial by Pal Zileri. True, it doesn’t perform all that well, but Gucci Rush never hit as hard as I would have hoped either. At Sartorial’s price point, just overapply and/or bring a travel decant to refresh.

I've been wearing Rush since I found it at Marshalls many years ago. Still regret not buying that 2nd bottle. Lacroix Tumulte pour homme is close but that's on the endangered list too. CDG Avignon or Montale Full Incense are probably closest

This may not be very helpful, but there's a fragrance called Parah Men. I had a small bottle years ago. It's a square bottle with different color blue horizontal stripes across it. I bought it at TJ Maxx. The brand Parah I think may be some designer brand from another country. The fragrance itself was almost identical to Gucci Rush imo. I also think Tommy Bahama (original brown bottle) is quite close too. Good luck finding either of them though.. both are discontinued as well.

Anything recent that's come close to Gucci Rush? I've always wanted a bottle but never pulled the trigger when it was more reasonably priced.

I loved Gucci Rush when it was new released.
And I'm still sad that I haven't bought backup bottles - lesson learned.

I also used to wear Azzaro Visit a lot and both are nothing alike.
Though if the Azzaro Visit bottles which are still flying around for under 30 euros are the same formulation as back in the days, they are really worth the money.

While seconding especially Proraso Red and Azzaro Visit (possibly layered together), also adding at least one of the lighter Gucci Guilty still in production to the mix (thus likely not Intense, Absolute rather than the regular EDT) into the mix. Both as a standalone and layered with these two above as well as others mentioned here.

YSL's Rue 24 is by far the closest that I've tried.

Tam Dao, Wonderwood etc don't really cut it

The YSL is expensive, definitely, for such a 'simple' fragrance, but it takes the Rush template, built around sandalwood + other woods, and adds a warm, smooth, suede note with a hint of what they're calling incense as well. It's absolutely the closest in 'style' and majesty to Rush from anything that I've tried. Not identical - it's lacking a cypress note, and is a touch less masculine, more unisex because of that - but definitely the closest, and one I'd recommend. It fixed the Rush-dilemma for me which was I really liked Rush, but its performance and price was prohibitive. YSL 24 is now 'the' sandalwood scent for me and I've stopped looking, that's how happy I am with it.

No. £50+ for an aftershave lotion that is at least 10 years old? Not worth it.

Maybe then? Yeah. If you've never tried Rush then that's probably an acceptable price.

I think it's worth a shot. AS versus EdT is slightly less potent as the AS might contain more alcohol.
The application method thus make a difference though. You typically end up with more fragrance when you pour a fragrance versus just spraying it.

Got a 75% full 50ml of Rush for $80. Wearing it today and the translucent cypress note is so nice. I'm loving it.

Purchased YSL Rue 24 as well. Hoping this one is all it's billed up to be but I trust your taste slpfsly!

Ouch - if you bought it at full price, I'm really hoping you like it, lest I be blamed for leading you down the wrong path! I'm hopeful you'll see it as a great, simplistic, understated modern sandalwood - and not miss the cypress note, which I agree makes Rush the sublime, perhaps even genre-creating fragrance that it is.

I've been selling off part of my collection to pay for new acquisitions lately. Especially now.

And...I'm spending my birthday this week stuck in a house I've been stuck in for over a month. Treating myself with some new fragrances.
