Default Tom Ford Oud Wood + Noir de Noir + Tobacco Vanille in 2018

I'm planning on getting full bottles of these three Private Blend scents over the next few months after having lived on occasional 10ml samples of each for the last nine years. These (and Amber Absolute) are very much my favourites out of the range.

But, I have run aross the odd comment here and there on the forums about how these have all been reformulated and aren't a patch on how they were originally. As this is pricey stuff it'd be dumb of me to buy them without checking in with other Tom Ford fans. What I love about TFPB is they go at least half a day without powering out. Does anyone feel these are now massively different in 2018 than they were a few years ago?

I have heard they are much weaker now, I would definitely sample current versions before buying.

This is what I feared....so my thinking is no point in paying for something that used to be great. I'd like to move on to other things but it's hard to find equivalents to these scents.

I bought Tobacco Vanille in 2017, still nuclear. Sample / test first, of course.

I'd pass on the 2018 bottles these are all watered down. If you want these bottles above, seek out an earlier bottle as those would all be stronger in concentration.

Let your nose be your guide. Smell them and decide.

I have a decant of Noir De Noir from 2014, I believe. It's OUTSTANDING. A few months ago, I had a date who enjoyed it so much she went to Nordstrom to get a sample. It was OUTSTANDING. I'd say the same for Oud Wood, except that Oud Wood is nowhere near as heavy and loud as Noir De Noir. For me, NdN is nights & cold weather only, whereas Oud Wood is amazingly versatile. I have a decant from 2014, but I've sampled the current juice and it's still great. And Tobacco Vanille is still a beast. I actually prefer Tabac Rouge by Phaedon, which is very similar but not as loud.

They're all excellent. Of the three, Noir De Noir is my favorite.

I personally have not noticed any changes in the last 4 years. Maybe Tobacco Vanille has been weakened a touch, and probably for its own good. But it is still beastly

    Sound advice.

For me, not having sampled older batches, I'm not left with any point of reference against which to compare the current bottles. I picked up samples of NdN and TV from Nordstrom last winter and they both became FB worthy. Who knows when the flacons were produced that they make the samples from since one would last quite a long time when only extracting a few milliliters at a time. To me my FBs smelled the same as my samples and I'm very pleased with my purchases.

Another thing that I also keep in mind is occasionally a reformulation actually turns out a more pleasing juice. So as always let your nose be your guide.

Haven't sampled any of those in recent batches. I think mine are from around 2016 or earlier. If you can make your way to Sephora, you should be able to sample and decide for yourself.

I recently returned a bottle of Oud Wood due to its appalling performance.

    Reform talk is often exaggerated.

People buy fakes, people buy decants on eBay that are watered down, and people's noses change.

    In wouldn't worry too much.
