I do own pre-barcode PRPH but it turns into vtg Brut on my skin.

+1 Prada Infusion d’Homme. If soapy is what you’re looking for, this one is king.

This is apparently an old blend of Turkish rose, lavender, cumin and amber. Those notes in that combination smells "soapy" to many of us.

On the other hand, I believe many of the classic US soap brands used other ingredients such as vetiver or synthetic musks, hence why those scents can be somewhat "soapy" to many Americans.
Excellent point. I read reviews sometimes that say "Just smells like soap to me" etc and I am like WHAT soap? There are soooo many different soap scents - I guess people tend to refer to the "basics" though like Irish Spring, Dial, Ivory, Imperial Leather etc when they ask for "soapy scent"

Also adding, apart from many great suggestions already mentioned, Azzaro pour Homme L'Eau and (vintage, tin can) Rive Gauche pour Homme- admittedly, the soapy aspect may be anywhere between minimal and of secondary importance in both, yet the performance of their clean, fresh, brisk notes does heighten even a moderately soapy feel

The soapiest fragrance to my nose is definitely Grey Flannel. Violet ionones and green violet leaf.

Very reminiscent of a quality, plain, white soap ... but also DCed and accordingly getting hard to find. Prada's new Infusion d'Iris Cedre is a rebranding of the same juice (or as close that I cannot tell them apart) so check it out if you have a chance.

Don't laugh, but when in a soapy mood and don't want Paco Rabanne pour Homme, more often I'm taking Aromatics Elixir. This is a radiance monster with one of the most beautiful quality drydowns. A small 25ml bottle, preferrably of 2009 or earlier, will last a good while as it is strong. It starts pretty oldschool, almost victorian with honeyed rose, but has one brilliant soapy mossy herbal atmospheric drydown when it settles. Maybe something to sample when you see it at the next counter.

I know it has already been mentioned but I just wanna say that Mugler Cologne knocked me off my feet by how soapy it was. WHEW!

    Just thought of another:

    C&S no. 88

This one’s never mentioned anymore! It was once all the rage here. Super soapy, masculine green rose and sandalwood.

A great one that is overlooked. Even reformulations are good in my book.

    Bingo!

I am totally with Roky on this one.

Also. I'm wearing Peau d'Espagne by SMN today and underneath my shirt is the Whine of Lye which is used to tan Leather and to Saponize.

    YES.
In fact, many wearers swear that it's almost identical to the old Dial soap.

This. D’iris Cedre can be purchased with confidence. I can’t really tell them apart either.
    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.
    4. Looking for a signature scent? You've come to the wrong place.

What springs to mind first was VC&A Pour Homme. Reading the point about 'soap smells' from continent to continent - this is based on Imperial Leather for me.
Concur with Mugler, but this seemed too synthetic and tangy compared to this.

How about Amouage Lyric Man? The most beautiful rose there is, soapy as all hell, and a projection/longevity monster.

Big +1 to Pikovaya Dama as, for me, it encapsulates the soapy niche while remaining upmarket and performing very strongly. My OH says it smells powdery to start, which I agree with. Lovely Iris in there.
