Default Received a VINTAGE Dior Homme Sport

Just wondering if this type of thing has ever happened to you...

I was browsing ebay when i came across a sealed DHS 50ml for around 40USD posted . Only picture the seller had was a stock photo of a 2017 dior homme sport. Being an impulsive buyer and in need of a back up bottle i pulled the trigger and bought it. Couple days pass and i receive the package. To my surprise it was a vintage 2008 batch bottle (8V03). Lets just say i was very happy with the purchase lol

TLDR; Thought i was getting a 2017 dior homme sport but ended up getting a vintage 2008 batch.

BTW it was sealed when it arrived

You lucky dog! Congrats. I have two 2012 bottles, but the 2008 version is just a tad better IMO.

Haha thanks man! Honestly i have all 3 versions and to me they're all great. The one difference that i would say makes the 2008 and 2012 versions slightly better than the 2017 IMO is the ginger note.

i don't think dior homme can be in the vintage category yet.
Vintage definition: item of age, usually from around the 1920's to approx 20 years ago. The items could be anything from furniture, children's toys, to clothing and household bits and pieces.
anyway, congrats on the nice 2008 batch bottle find.

For me, in fragrance world 'vintage' means the first version that went on sale

That's what i was going for. I just thought the definition of vintage in the fragrance world has undergone a sort of colloquialism where it meant 1st edition.

Don't worry about it. There has been a lot of discussion/arguments here on BN as to what is vintage.
I think what is generally accepted other than stuff 20 years old is
    1) First version (as Kaern said)
    2) Discontinued

Vintage, when talking about wine, means a year that a high quality wine was produced - this could be 2017 for some variety of wines. Applying this to fragrances, most people agree that, generally speaking, the original formulation of a fragrance is the best - so to me a vintage fragrance is the original formulation!

By the way - good buy on the DHS - the same happend to me in Spain earlier this year. I was in a fragrance shop and saw a 2008 sealed DHS (50ml). Asked how much and she said 36 euro but as they were running specials that day she would take 20% of bringing it to under 30 euro. I almost snapped her hand off!

Thanks for the clarification! I actually did not know that about wine but it's a great comparison. Also, I felt the same way when I saw my one

    Congrats

The original 2008 formulation was the best formulation in my opinion of DHS.

I agree with this definition as well. Everyone will have his or her definition of what is considered vintage.

This. I like to use the term "first edition," following books. It is most clear, then, I feel.

I have a loose definition of "vintage" myself, and see it as anything over 20 years old, or the very first production of something. I disagree with saying anything discontinued is automatically vintage, just because some houses make so many limited run scents every single year (like Avon, small artisinal operations, or pushers of seasonal varieties like or Issey Miyake), that they're "vintage" before they even hit shelves!

Also, congrats on the Dior grab!
oh look, I have a signature
