Default Treading the scented cobbles of Coronation Street

When it comes to childhood memories, most kids hunker down on Saturday morning watching their favourite cartoons or goofy sitcoms but for me, it has been the ultimate UK soap, Coronation Street to turn to. From childhood to yesterday's cliffhanger, I have tuned in religiously to watch a multitude of characters land, live out, die and even outlast other characters. There is nothing better than watching those characters treading the cobbles to that famous trumpeted-theme song which now also happens to be my signature ring tone, Iím that addicted.

Great Job on your fragrance impressions attached to the characters. The sad fact for me is I only recognize the Rovers Return, Ken Barlow and Albert Tadlock. I last watched Corrie in 1973 as I moved form Liverpool to Knoxville Tennessee and it isn't shown in my area. The backgrounds in the pictures look so familiar. "You what Luv"
resonates to this day for me. Jack and Annie Walker the original bar keeps were the best and who could forget Betty Turpin or Hilda and Stan Ogden. Great memories indeed. Thanks for the trip back through memory lane. Great British TV.

Great article! I have a similar fondness for the Archers (a BBC Radio 4 drama that has gone on for years). More of a rural version of Coronation Street. I wonder what the denizens of Ambridge would be wearing?

Excellent stuff Marian, although I must admit that I haven't seen the programme for about 20 years, so some of the characters mean nothing to me. I'll go along with your suggestions for the older characters though.
