One recognizable difference is between circa pre-1989 and after - that's when they got their second royal warrant, the older one's only have the Duke of edinburgh warrant. I don't have new new flacons, so don't know about recent minor design changes, but I'll post pictures of my 1988 and 2000s Hammam here, when I have the time (later this week). The scent has changed, the current version is pretty much dishwater, the 2000s quite nice, the vintage less sweet, more sombre.

One trick is to make sure that the 'eau de toilette' line appears on the box base and not higher up. If you see a bottle with a long silver-coloured metal cap rather than a clear plastic ball, you can be sure that that too is the good stuff. I recognise those bottles from the 1980s and 1990s.

The packaging has changed completely in recent years, as I'm sure you know, from red to grey.

The left version is mid-2000s I want to say and is the version I adore. It's very musky and just a bit floral.

The bottle on the right with the cylinder cap is the oldest one I've tried. No idea what year it is. When you smell the nozzle you can recognize it's HB, but sprayed it's much more floral, almost a feminine scent.

The post 2010 version i tried was dreadful. Dry and harsh.
