Thread: Vintage Xeryus |
Hi Guys
Been a member for a while now but never posted in this forum before.
I owned a bottle of this in the 90's and loved it. I can see that various members don't really rate the current stuff
I've seen a few 25ml vintage edt bottles floating around at a reasonable price but have also seen some 50ml aftershave bottles at the same price. Can anyone advise what sort of strength and projection I would get from the aftershave?? Being in its original formulation I am assuming it will still be pretty decent? Or do you think I should just go for the smaller edt bottle??
Thanks in advance,

Great masculine that never got its due. It always gives me the illusion of oak moss in the base accord.

The vintage EdT is great stuff and not particularly scarce on ebay in the states although I know you're across the pond. I would just go for whatever size of the EdT you can afford.
I'm not sure that the oakmoss is illusory - smells like the real thing to me, and lots of it! That and artemisia.
Used to have the 25ml edt and pretty much loved it. I do have the vtg aftershave and am very happy with it. Smells great with decent performance. When I apply it I let it dry into the skin and then reapply. Works fine for me.

Non IFRA Compliant & proud of it!
If you can swing it, I’d hon for both. The layered wearing will make your edt last longer (splash on the AS, let it dry then apply EDT over it). Xeryus is not a “heavy hitter” to begin with, so if I had to choose, I’d go with the EDT.
I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.

Wouldn't doubt it. I've seen more than one site have the accords on this one sans oak moss. I get an undercurrent of it, but sometimes there are tunings of certain ingredients that do give you the semblance of something else entirely. Either way, I have always enjoyed it when I wore it. I also remember how surprised I was ( the first wearing ) on how solid it smelled. My expectations were exceeded........and that is a rare thing.

I would be surprised if there wasn't a good amount of oakmoss in good old Xeryus. Heck, there was (and still should be) oakmoss in almost anything worthwhile from that century.
And what do you think of the new xeryus releases? (Mythical collection and post formulation)
Bought a "myhtical" bottle in hope for something as similar as possible to vintage and what I got... A watered down bright floral with a faint sweet accord, really different from art deco xeryus...
Not sure if that question was for me too but I have never smelled the reformulation(s).
I am wearing a bit of Xeryus vintage, and it is INCREDIBLE. Very nice super Yatagan-ish.
FYI: I spray all fragrances on clothing, never on skin.

Have had the luck to test both the aftershave and the EDT version long ago in the past, each of these in their vintage version, having noticed that they do not differ that much in terms of performance, having both more than decent projection and longevity.
Ultimately, if the price on both the EDT and the aftershave is identical or nearly similar, would still advise to start with a smaller bottle of EDT if on budget and/or good rates become available for it, with the possibility to always keep in mind the possibility of adding an aftershave version of the same respective fragrance later on-should budget, purchasing opportunities/discounts/offers gradually allow for this, partly in order to better point out, highlight the already good performance of the EDT.
