    Default Vintage Masculine lemon colognes

Any recommendation for some good vintage colognes the masculine powdery soapy lemon type along the same line as Pour Monsieur and Masculin 2 by Bourjois.
I need to be lemon, when you first sniff to know yes this is lemon not just any citrus smell.
I know some compare Pour Monsieur to Eau Sauvage, but to me they are totally different citrus type and overall very different colognes Eau Sauvage is Bergamot, and I am looking for recognizable lemon opening. Different from your Armani eau PH or YSL PH type citrus, I am looking for more soapy powdery lemon with good performance.
    Thank you.

Not sure I'd call it soapy powdery, but the reference lemon was Monsieur Balmain. I don't know if it's still in existence and if so how it is, but the vintage shoudln't be too hard to find.

Have you smelled/sampled Art of Shaving Lemon edt? It's discontinued but still out there. The dry down is really nice.

1976's Capucci Pour Homme has a wonderful lemon note underpinned by a dry and herbal Italian base.

As mentioned, Monsieur Balmain in the frosted bottle is the way to go.

+1's to both, but neither have the powdery note Peter was asking for...

Maybe some old Guerlain Eau - might not really have the powdery note, but could give you their Guerlinade vanilla base...But Pour Monsieur is indeed a bad comparison

Avon Tribute for Men (1963) is a good choice. Original bottle was a Spartan head bust but any version will do. Was made into the mid-70's.

Another great choice is Geoffrey Beene Bowling Green (1986). Lots of lemon and verbena, with some galbanum and a cistus base. Very good for grooming. IMG_20180810_135918_308.jpg

Finally, I like Penhaligon's Douro/Eau de Portugal/Lords (1911) all same scent, renamed three times haha (goes by Douro: Eau de Portugal now). Softer lemon verbena opening, more cistus labdanum, moss, more chypre-like and gentlemanly.

If I had to order them most to least lemony, it would be
    Bowling Green
    Tribute
    Douro

The performance best to worst is
    Bowling Green (EdT)
    Douro (EdT)
    Tribute (EdC)

    Price low to high is

    Bowling Green
    Tribute
    Douro

I think someone forgot to suggest L'Homme (1984, Versace).

Not sure how good the current is, but plenty of mid-vintage around for MSRP or less.

It is similar to YSL pH, so maybe not different enough to scratch the itch you have, but worth checking out if you can.

    Default Vintage Masculine lemon colognes

Ungaro pour L'Homme II comes to mind. Strong lemon as I recall it. Can't fully remember the drydown, though.
Maybe others can help with that

EDIT: applied it to the back of my hand. It starts off with a blast of bergamot and after about a minute a tenacious crisp clear lemon Masculin 2 style takes over.
But, no soap and not really powdery. Basically just a vanilla-bomb w/ civet.

Boucheron Pour Homme checks every box. The edt wears a bit more lightly while the EDP is both heavier and a bit more “fusty.” I think the EDT is more vibrant and is an easier wear, but the EDP is one of the few citrus fragrances that can survive the cold. Vintage in both of these is preferred, but what’s available now is still very solid.
I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.

    Vintages of:
    Boucheron PH
    Bowling Green
    Basile Uomo Forte
    Ettore Bugatti

All have lemon and some have lemon+other Hesperidics
