Default Sauvage vs Rive Gauche vs Opium pour homme(edt/edp)

Hi there guys! Just came across YSL Rive Gauche on forums and it seems pretty much a fragrance I’d love. However, it s been a while since I last had Sauvage and I kinda miss it kinda don t know if it still suits me or worth it at all. I haven t smelled Rive Gauche, but seems like a safe blind buy. Opium smells rly good for me,but something just holds me back from buying it,can t tell for sure what it is. So right now I m looking for a clean good performing fresh fragrance since I own mostly sweet fragrances(YSL la nuit, versace eros, jpg ultra male, recently bought chanel egoiste since I became more mature in terms of wearing fragrances). I am open to any other suggestions, but I m mainly interested in which would be the winner of these 3.

RG is better cologne from the 3 choices, but to me the OP will be better match with Sauvage the EDT as he is looking for a clean good performing fresh fragrance.

They're all very different from each other..

I didn't care much for Rive Gauche Pour Homme (metal can), but now that I'm more experienced.. I'd have to revisit.

Had Opium Pour Homme EdP and found it decent/okay, but didn't keep it.

I enjoy Sauvage EdT - not sure on EdP yet.

As some has already said, this is three very different fragrances. I think it is tough to choose between Opium and Rive Gauche as they both are very good. Maybe Opium. I don’t think Sauvage is as good as them, but it’s okay.

Rive Gauche because it’s one of my favorites and it’s also much more versatile. Opium is great, (I prefer the vintage EDP) but it really works best in cooler weather. Sauvage just rubs me the wrong way and it seems like you smell it everywhere nowadays.
I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.

Based on your post, Sauvage is the only one of the three that I would class as anything approaching fresh. Opium pour Homme is sweet in both concentrations and Rive Gauche pour Homme is lovely but not what I would call fresh.

Both Rive Gauche and Opium smell clean, but in different ways. While Rive Gauche has a barbershop smell, Opium has a balmy one. None of the two is what people usually call fresh scents, despite a find Opium to be more “fresh” out of the two.

On the other hand, if you actually meant Eau Sauvage, then I'd say go with either Rive Gauche or Eau Sauvage.

Rive Gauche hands and feet above the rest. Try it first as you might not like the aniseed note, although it's so well blended you might not realise it's there. I personally love the note and the whole fragrance. It's my second most worn scent of all time based on my wardrobe statistics.

Sauvage and Opium PH both have pepper in the mix. Opium has more vanilla in the dry down and is quite spicy. Great scent for cold weather. Sauvage is just some fresh bergamot on top with an ambrox bomb of a dry down. Don't see it as fresh either and I think it's more of a colder weather scent too.

This made me laugh a lot - I take it you don't like Sauvage then?

I have both Opium and Sauvage, so I can only speak between the two. In my opinion Opium is the superior fragrance. I discover new notes from time to time with Opium. The longevity is really good as well.
