Default Is Creeds Original Vetiver Slightly Under Appreciated??

I wore this just the other day. It had been a while. I was reminded what a fantastic fragrance it is. It sort of uplifts my mood. I can't help but think it has been left behind with all the talk of Aventus & Green Irish Tweed.

I know a lot of people talk of it as being virtually identical to Mugler Cologne. I notice many differences and don't see them as close as many others do. I actually think it comes across as similar to the ADP Colonia line. Anyone else get this??

Anyway.....What are your thoughts on Original Vetiver.

Absolutely love O.V. One of the best vetiver fragrances out there IMO. Not a dirty vetiver and as you rightly say it really is uplifting.
I have a few vetivers I like, including Td'H parfum, TF Grey vetiver and Roja Dove Vetiver Extrait. These 4 cover all my vetiver needs and I'll be keeping them all in my collection. O.V is probably the easiest to wear as it's so versatile and can be worn in so many situations. Without doubt, it does seem to get overshadowed by all the talk about Aventus and GIT but vetivers in general probably aren't as widely bought as other fragrance groups by the general population?
ps: I Prefer OV to Mugler or ADP.

I think that it is appreciated plenty here at BN. I'm a fan, rotate it in frequently, as do many others here it seems.

Perhaps it is under appreciated. I usually wear this in the summer to get my hit of spicy grassy citrusy vetiver.
Side by side Mugler Cologne and Original Vetiver are different but a casual passerby might confuse them. The latter smells far better to me but I still have to be in the mood for it. Only really gets love in the summer and even then it might get passed over for something else. That said I’ve never been a huge fan of vetivers especially where its upfront, but for a lover of the note it might be a different story.

OV was my daily office fragrance for about 8 years. I must have worn a gallon of it. I still enjoy it. It's very versatile and can be worn year round by young or old.

Under appreciated or not, happening to personally consider this one both one of the better vetiver and also even Creed scents in general, simultaneously

    Great scent and yes underappreciated.

Part of issue is that it isn’t really a vetiver in that soil earth vetiver. It’s more lemony like guerlain vetiver.

Great scent that is greatly underappreciated. I get quite a few compliments when wearing OV. I also agree with it being a whole different scent from Mugler Cologne.

Original Vetiver is a very strong like for me, but not quite a love... but I do like it a lot.

I've been really surprised by the feedback I've gotten from dates when wearing it. Original Vetiver is among my most complimented scents. A female friend even asked the name specifically so she could buy it for her husband. Aventus never gets me any feedback (which is fine. I wear it for myself because I enjoy it), but OV gets me raves. I'm so surprised. Then again, maybe I shouldn't be surprised. Castile gets me amazing feedback too, as does 1725. All three are totally different scents, but they're all on the clean side. I also think it probably has a lot to do with my style and personality. I'm not a loud or flashy guy. Modern clean dapper scents suit me.

I don't think anybody can go wrong with Original Vetiver so long as they try it first to make sure they enjoy it.

I think it's great and appreciated by many. I love mine in hot weather,

It's been around awhile and is kind of low key scent.

I think part of the thing with the scent is that it's not very "vetiver-y" compared to something like Guerlain Vetiver.

To me it's more a fresh, green soapy scent...and people looking for something like that usually find it.

GIT and Aventus are probably number one and two best sellers for Creed and are also more renowned as "lady killers." But as noted by L'Homme above, women like this too.

Not hyped up but definitely not underappreciated here on Basenotes. You’ll see Original Vetiver in many thread recommendations. It’s a solidly versatile workhorse that wears like a navy jacket - always appropriate and classy.

I think plenty of people appreciate it. It's the vetiver scent that is liked by people who don't care for dry vetivers. The rare people who love 'dry' vetiver scents usually scoff at Creed's Original Vetiver as a poser fragrance that isn't really a vetiver. I smell vetiver in Original Vetiver, but it has been sweetened up and made more palatable for me. I think the vast majority of casual fragrance lovers will enjoy Creed Original Vetiver and Mugler Cologne more than say, Tom Ford's Grey Vetiver or Guerlain's Vetiver. It's all a matter of taste, nothing more. There is surely nothing wrong with loving either type of variant.

*I wanted to say that Mugler Cologne and Creed Original Vetiver are similar in the genre of vetiver they occupy. Mugler Cologne howver is more clean and lighter, while Creed Original Vetiver is more dense and a bit heavier/richer smelling despite both seemingly playing on a similar 'general' scent. I know people say they smell different (and they do upon close examination) but I don't doubt one could be mistaken for the other when caught by the nose 'on the air'.

I think Original Vetiver is a good scent overall. I always find myself picking others fragrances, particularly from Creed over it.

I do, too. Not sure why, because I have always loved it and enjoy it every time I wear it.

So from that standpoint, maybe it is a little under appreciated.

I think it would make a perfect scent for a person who's not into fragrances. It's the best scent I can think of a person like my dad could be gifted for birthday or Xmas. Perhaps a bit too pricey for what it is, but I can't think of a better everyday, every occasion fragrance.

With people who are into fragrances, it gets lost among other more interesting scents.

I love OV, but can't justify the premium over Mugler Cologne - which to my nose smells 99% the same.

I have worn it since 2009. In fact I have gone through 3 or 4 full 120ml bottles since then. I can't wear it every day or all year round, but in warmer weather, this one just lights up like a fresh breeze in a heat wave.

It was my first Creed back then and one that got me in to the buying frenzy of scents.

I don’t think it’s underappreciated. Albeit simple it remains a very nice fragrance. I find it energizing, fresh, and uplifting. It certainly isn’t complex or creative but it doesn’t have to be. It’s simply clean, approachable, and inoffensive.

It’s one I feel is neither overrated or underrated.

It accomplishes what it sets out to accomplish and has it’s fair amount of admirers

I wore it quite a bit this summer -- it really suits hot weather

There are a couple of caveats though -- I don't think it has much to do with 'vetiver' and it is very similar to MC -- they are both a bit 'hissy'

just a great, fresh, crowd pleasing scent that gets compliments. Original Vetiver gives "wearing cologne" a good name.

Vetiver is usually a kind of grassy, earthy note.

The vetiver note in OV isn't as earthy. One Basenoter asserts they are using the aerial part of the plant and not the roots (which is what is usually used and gives the earthy smell).

The benchmark vetiver scent for me is Guerlain Vetiver and this is nothing like that. I haven't tried Tom Ford's in awhile so can't address specific differences. I think the Ford is more tart.

I would sum up OV with these three words:

    Soapy
    Green
    Fresh

Though I don't think there is a drop of vetiver in this stuff, yes I love it. My only complaint though (after using an entire bottle of this stuff) is that it's a bit cloying, and I would appreciate if the juice was a little more dilute, or that the Creed sprayer gave a smaller volume. One full spray of this fragrance is a bit much. And yes, Mugler is very similar to this fragrance. After laying off of OV for a couple of years, I've purchased Mugler, and enjoy it every bit as much. Even though both of these frags are quite linear, the smell is just so pleasant, unoffensive, and office-safe.

Took the words from my mouth...typical! It's a joyful and uplifting type of "light" vetiver, as others have stated. I slot it up with CdG Vettiveru in this category.

Mugler Cologne is a screaming blowtorch of neroli and white musk; I don't like it or consider it equivalent except for maybe the first few minutes.

Thanks Stylin! I really like Grey Vetiver but I also remember having Mugler Cologne and only really liking the opening to it and after that thought it was just ok. I think I'm going to get a sample of OV to check it out.
