Cancun makes me think of warm weather and cocktails drinks. That will certainly be the determining factor for what I will choose for tomorrow.

Since I'm one of those cantankerous types who dislikes beach resorts (hate the sand, hate the salt, hate the sunburn), I would be the grumbling guest who stays inside in the air conditioning, sampling all the local foods, including lots & lots of vanilla flan.

Not easy to synch this week. I've gone for Penhaligon's Juniper Sling, as the weather is quite warm. This is the nearest I have to anything 'tropical' or 'beachy', or even Mexican. I don't even have a scent with lime.
Summer rotation : Guerlain Vetiver; Etro Palais Jamais and Shaal Nur; Penhaligon's Juniper Sling; Prada Infusion d'Iris EdP.

I ended up going with Heretic Dirty Ginger. The lime and cumin notes are perhaps more reminiscent of other parts of Mexico, but it's the best I've got!

Unfortunately I don't care much for it, but it's not the perfume, it's me. I'm not the audience for Shalimar, or for feminine Guerlains in general. That Guerlinade base is just too sweet for me.

Dang, I just realized I could have merely repeated last week's sync, Terracotta le Parfum, and been right in step this week:

I've never been outside Europe, but from what I imagine about Mexico and what I do have, I think Black Opium fits the best: vanilla, coffee, spices and orange blossom.

Despite the NYC-themed name, I went with Bond 9 Coney island because it literally smells like a margarita and has notes like margarita mix, lime, guava, caramel, and tequila. This smells like a summer day at the beach in San Diego. I've been to Mexico several times, but never to Cancun. We're actually going back later this year on a cruise to the west coast (Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas). I can't wait!

    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.

My parents were also mostly unscented, except once I remember by dad experimenting with British Sterling a/s. But he wasn't a regular wearer, and I think he just bought it on a whim one time when it was in the sale bin. Anyway, I don't have it.

My mom likes soliflore type scents that smell very natural, but has never been a regular wearer of anything. She used to have a few minis that various people had given her. No idea what they were.

I suppose I'll wear Penhaligon's Castile, as it's basically an orange blossom soliflore, and hence would get the mom seal approval.

It is and it has, but it’s still very good as far as I’m concerned, especially as 100ml costs about $10. Wonderful value classic that holds its own against classic masculine orientals many times more expensive. I have vintage and modern and like both versions.

    Your dad had great taste!

Not only is current version good but I find it better than vintage. One of the few cases where oakmoss is not needed .

I'm still not sure if I want to sit this out or work with something I do have - because I have none of the fragrances my parents wear or actively enjoy.

My dad mostly wears fresh aquatics in the vein of Cool Water or general fresh and fern-like scents. I don't think he has a certain favourite, he basically uses what my mom gifts him (and my mom loves aquatics), but he enjoys them as well. He wouldn't wear any gourmands or orientals or anything sweet, I don't think he would enjoy anything animalic, leathery or tobacco scented - he uses scents as an aftershave and to feel even more fresh and clean, and all these are the opposite to that. I've seen him using Cool Water, Old Spice, several aquatics or greens by Faberlic or Dzintars through the years, and some more I don't remember. But I think Cool Water sums up his taste the best.
I have Ginepro Nero by L'Erbolario and a tester vial of Invictus Aqua, he hasn't worn those but I think he would like them or at least would be okay with them.

My mom has a taste that differs so much from mine and therefore I don't have any of her favourites. She likes aquatics (I do like men's aquatics, but women's aquatics somehow are dreadful to me), subtle florals/fruity florals/tea scents/fresh ones with the emphasis on subtle; she likes her scents as unnoticeable as possible, if the scent is even a little bit cloying to her, she won't wear it. She believes that you shouldn't be able to smell the perfume on yourself unless you smell your wrist directly, of course (because others around you still can smell it anyway), and if you do, it means either you overapplied or the perfume is not suitable to you, because it distracts and cloys you.
Among her favourites through the years are these: L'Eclat D'Arpege by Lanvin (she's probably on her third or something bottle of it now), Green Tea by Elizabeth Arden, Noa by Cacharel, Cool Water and Cool Water Wave by Davidoff, Dolly Girl by Anna Sui, Hugo Boss Woman. She also has Apparition by Ungaro and Manifesto L'Eclat by YSL, but I'm not sure how much she likes them as they aren't much used by now. Also, I gave her away my Laguna Maravilla by Salvador Dali as it didn't go well with me (too salty, too aquatic, cloying to me) and she said she liked it and it felt more sweet than salty to her.

It would be easy if I had a free Friday evening, then I could just pop into the fragrance shop and spritz one of her favourites (I'd go with the Lanvin as I like that one the most; I remember liking the lovely cranberry-flavoured Anna Sui one but I have never seen it for sale here; she bought it during our vacation trip many many years ago and it's been used up for a while now). But I have a camping trip planned, so I would have to stick with something I do own and I'm not sure if I want to play along with that while camping.
