Vintage Shulton - Old Spice Long Lasting Cologne

    About this set:
*The Long Lasting Cologne is an extremely rare tester spray bottle only provided to retail stores in the 1980's for public testing. I took a red cap from the modern cologne spray, which fit the old tester and it then painted it enamel gray and then sprayed a matte clear coat over it. I have 6 bottles of this, which I believe will last a lifetime. The scent from these is phenomenally preserved and the juice is so strong I only need 1 spray in summer and 2 in winter to get nuclear sillage.

*The lather brush was provided to me by Nathan of Envy Shave, who had a specialist create this brush handle. Due to copyright issues, the name of the creator remains a mystery. No other lather brush exists like it and it will never be produced again.

*The iron-cast shave stand was commissioned to and created by Desire Metalworks and a tribute to this original, old Shulton Old Spice fragrance.

*The deodorant is also becoming very rare to find a preserved and usable one from decades ago. I have only manged to obtain 3 and I have to keep them sealed to prevent any evaporation of the alcohol in the deodorant stick. These deodorants smell exactly like when I was a child. Even the almost 'wet dog' vibe on the opening (which disappears after several minutes). The deodorant's smell is what brings back the most memories of the original Shulton Old Spice from my Dad's bathroom medicine cabinet. Today's Proctor & Gamble version is different, but still nice nonetheless.

*The aftershave and shaving mug/soap are still commonly available from Ebay and very affordable.

Fragrance, among other things, is stuff of memories. Young people can be told, but don't truly understand yet. Once you reach your 30's and up, you'll understand how the smells of your childhood have a powerful emotional response and are something you enjoy from time to time. The original Shulton Old Spice is like that for millions of men who were once boys. The Proctor & Gamble version in stores today is not the same. It's enjoyable, but it's not what I smelled around my Dad when I was a kid. Old Spice and fragrances like it are more than just a scent (albeit a really good scent), but an olfactory photograph of another time. I've read many times that smells provoke the most powerful memories. More powerful than seeing something or hearing something. Smelling something even decades later evokes memories that are vivid, powerful and you even 'feel' like you did at that time from the memory. Anyway, that's what this shaving set means to me and why I put it together.

Thumbs up Re: SOTD: Sunday, 2nd December, 2018

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

    Cuba Paris Cuba Gold today
Only the fool would take trouble to verify that his sentence was composed of ten as, three bs, four cs, four ds, forty-six es, sixteen fs, four gs, thirteen hs, fifteen is, two ks, nine ls, four ms, twenty-five ns, twenty-four os, five ps, sixteen rs, forty-one ss, thirty-seven ts, ten us, eight vs, eight ws, four xs, eleven ys, twenty-seven commas, twenty-three apostrophes, seven hyphens and, last but not least, a single!

Go ahead. Test the veracity of this (1960s I think) pre-computer generated masterpiece of self-referential sentences.
