    Default Egoiste work safe?

    Hi Basenoters,

I’m very new to fragrances and so far have bottles of TDH Parfum, Allure Homme Sport, and Égoïste.

Of these three I enjoy Egoiste the most, but I’m not sure if it’s appropriate for work. As background, about half the day I work in my own office and the other half I’m in a lab (wearing a labcoat over my office clothes) with other folks.

Is Egoiste a reasonable choice for this environment or do I need something more toned down?

Egoiste smells elegant, sweet, and woody, and for a long time, so perfectly appropriate for work. I'd only recommend that you don't spray too much.

Yes. I wear it and I usually do about one good spray behind the neck and maybe around my knee area. I nick it off my husband's shelf all the time.

    Very reasonable IMO.

Any fragrance can be office safe, as long as you wear an appropriate amount. Just don't overdo it.

Think of someone listening to music they really enjoy in the cubicle next to you. If you can't hear it until you walk into their bubble, you won't care.

Yes it's office safe if you don't overapply! Subjectively, I find it to be an evening, colder weather, scent.

I don't think it's especially safe or unsafe for the office.
More of an evening scent to me and fairly potent but at least it's well crafted.

It depends if you're working mainly with guys or girls. Not many girls I know like Egoiste, I'd recommend something a little fresher with citrus.

    1. No, never blind buy (I do, but do as I say, not as I do. I'm taking no responsibility for your fragrance gambling).
    2. Get them both. You're a Basenoter and you know you're going to end up purchasing them both eventually.
    3. Yes, it has been reformulated.

Also try Platinum Egoiste, different type of fragrance but great as well 2 sprays and you should still be good. I enjoy both and feel they are good to alternate between if you did have both.

Back when I used to do lab work, nobody around me wore fragrances except for one of the admin ladies I had to walk by coming into the building. Every day she was drowned in dense heady floral stuff that projected like a foghorn. She got enough complaints that the department chair had to address it with her.

I'm still in science but not doing bench work anymore. Not many other people at my company wear fragrances so I tread carefully. Egoiste is one of my more often worn scents and it's just fine if you keep the volume low and respectable, 2-3 sprays. I even wear more vintage/powerhouse style fragrances to work on occasion (VC&A Pour Homme today) but only in restrained doses. The only frags I avoid for work are the overtly sexual e.g. Absolue Pour Le Soir or balls-out musky e.g. vintage Kouros.

    This is an interesting thread.

I haven't really worn Egoiste out of the house much - perhaps once or twice at best. It's the 'lazy scent whilst at home' for me and my wife calls it 'that cherry smell'. I should probably do so though, especially with the cold weather approaching us over the next few weeks.

I've worn vintage Kouros countless times to work which may surprise people given my previous post in this thread. Easily my most complimented scent so far in 2018 from colleagues. Max three sprays from this and it lasts all day yet stays quite close to you - i.e. it doesn't project from fifty feet.

I've worn Egoïste to work countless times and it's never been an issue. As others have said, it's always a matter of good judgement in terms of how much you apply. I go with three to four sprays of most of my fragrances and the only one that's ever created an issue (and I work in a pretty small office space with two other guys!) is Amber Absolute. Fair enough on that one, much as I love it.

Thanks to all who have replied. Your answers have been quite reassuring and filled with good suggestions. I’ll likely start thinking about office days vs lab days when deciding how many sprays and what fragrance I apply in the morning. Please keep the suggestions coming.

I second the "yes but 2 sprays max" advice. At least to start out...you may be able to go 3.
