Default What is the best Masculine Fig Fragrance?

    Hey all,

I am assembling a new shaving set and I have a good lock on the bath soap, shaving soap, aftershave so far (deodorant TBD still).......but I still need to decide on a fragrance. I have Le Labo The Noir 29. I have samples of Acqua di Parma - Fico di Amalfi, which is a contender (most likely the choice if I cannot find a better option).

I like fig. Moreso than I realized. I have recently tested side-by-side Sonoma Scent Studios - Fig Tree against Armani Prive - Figuier Eden.

Sonoma Scent Studios - Fig Tree.......starts out with a strong vegetal note that must be the leaves of the tree. It takes a long time to dry down into what is a very natural, pleasing fig fragrance. It's also VERY potent/strong. This one smells dense, forward, intense. It's natural, but powerful. I would likely buy this one if Sonoma Scent Studios still was open and selling fragrances. This one deserves discussion among enthusaists. It's a bit heavy handed though, so it's not really a designer, nor is it like a super-processed niche. It's natural perfuming that has a raw feel but very well done.

Armani Prive - Figuier Eden......is a clean scent that is light, crisp with a lemon citrus fusion going on. It's an airy scent that isn't heavy, almost 'ethereal'/transparent. Clearly this one is using highly processed synthetics, but very, very good ones. This one seems highly refined and definitely has an high-end industrial quality. It's something that I'm considering, but it's not knocking me over with an urge to buy it right away. I definitely need time to compare this and I believe there is room for a better scent out there.

This is the extent of my fig exploration. It's pretty limited so far. I have yet to smell Diptyque's Philosykos, if you have an opinion on how well it works for men would be appreciated and any other fig scents that you think are great are welcome as well. I'm not against a carefully played incense note with fig as it might help make it lean masculine. If you know if a great 'unisex' scent that blows your socks off, please include that as well.

Try Annick Goutal - Ninfeo Mio.
Bought it recently and I love it.

Atelier cologne musc imperial has a nice fig note, so that might be something to check out.

Of the Fig fragrances i have tried - i find that these will always lean more feminine than masculine.

Fico Di Amalfi was rubbish - gone in 45mins.
Figuier Eden has been my favourite Fig - exceptional quality and perfprmance.

You need to get your nose onto the new Dior - Balade Sauvage.

Finished my bottle of Figuier Eden not long ago and replaced it with Balade Sauvage this time round.

I recently sampled Diptyque Philosykos at Nordstroms and had instant images of the whole fig tree. The green of the leaves really stood out for me and very realistic. I went back to the same store several weeks later to pick it up and the display was gone. Oh well saved me some money. I've been looking for a great fig scent and I think Diptyque may be it.

I only know Marc Jacobs for men and I thought it smelled great. I remember it having poor performance though.

Oh, and try to describe what you liked about the scent you're recommending. Any note combos/blending that you find good/intriguing? Is it fresh? Spicy? Smokey? Woody? I figure that fig can be the center of many different kinds of nuanced fragrances and actually work. So far, the description from AlphaFrank75 of Diptyque's Philosykos is solid and gives me a good idea of what to expect. That's the kind of thing I'm hoping to read about with each recommendation. It would help me to condense my reading to one thread and figure out which ones to go out and get or order samples of.

I've only sniffed this in passing but I remember it being just as you describe, very evocative and photographic. On the cheap side there is always Salvatore Ferragamo PH, a Jacques Polge creation if I remember right. It had a very late 90's synthetic fresh sensibility though. TF Extreme contains a fig note but good luck separating it from the truffle, plum and incense notes; due to its complexity it's hard to recommend as a means of exploring any one particular note.

This is just me but the only fig-centered fragrance I would ever wear in LV would be Armani Prive’s Figeur Eden. I have the Diptyque in the edt form but I only bought it because my dog loved figs, so I will smell it on occasion in an homage to him. TS, I would definitely try both the Diptyque and the Armani(before you buy) as Philosykos leans “feminine” IMO. The edp is greener by the way. Happy hunting!

The Diptyque is the obvious choice. Z Zegna Milan is also worth the try. I liked that one a lot when I tried it.

I'm a big fan of Yesterday Haze by Imaginary Authors. Maybe a bit out-of-the-box, but they central accord is a creamy fig. Soft but hints of white musk and orris. I quite enjoy it.

Same. I like Marc Jacobs scent immediately when applied, but it loses power and smells powdery way too fast. Philosykos is nice but kind of too green for my tastes.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned my favorite: Un Jardin en Méditerranée from Hermès. Better performance and IMO, more masculine than Fico (which I also enjoy.)

Salvatore Ferragamo pour Homme, strong fig leaf presence but cheap enough to ignore it's one-dimensional. There's also dune pour homme

AdP Fico di Amalfi smells exactly like the fig tree I grew up playing in. It has the semi-sweet fig and the earthy wood notes to give a good impression of what I grew up smelling. Thankfully for me, I get a solid 6 hours of performance.

However, to date, my favorite fragrance highlighting fig is Armani Prive Figuer Eden. It wears light but persistently ALL day for me. It's a complimented fragrance as well.

Both of these wear well though in my high humidity. In your drier climate I'd perhaps suggest first looking towards something juicier like the Dyptique. A sleeper with a fig that you may enjoy is vintage Dior Dune. Best wishes.

Great suggestions already. Just to toss in one more, The Zoo Fig my love. It's probably the strongest, and it focuses on the fresh aspect of fig, so it will work as a (long lasting) fresh masculine.

I could be wrong but I kind of get a sense that Philosykos EDP is sort of the "benchmark" fig fragrance. (Much like Guerlain Vetiver is the benchmark vetiver scent).

It certainly seems be one to sample.

Haven't tried it myself but have seen a lot of chat about it through the years.

I just blind bought Banana Republic 78 (is it?) vintage Green. It's said to have a dominant fig note. I have not smelled it yet, but based on reviews looks very promising to be a masculine fig frag.

Bought it from Maxaroma with code to bring total price to $32 shipped. So even if I dislike it, i am 100% positive i can at least break even, if not make a profit on it on Ebay, since it looks to be discontinued now, or getting there.

That's a favorite summertime fragrance of mine. One of the few underrated scents I have backups. I've never found any fig to standout. It's more like "poor man's Nio - light". Citrus and greens. If there's fig, my nose missed it through a full bottle. (it's one of the few fragrances I over spray with reckless abandon cause it's so easy to wear and inexpensive when I picked it up ) Please let me know if you detect fig. I'd say they've tweaked the formula if so. There's also a good possibility that my nose is defective.

l think you are correct in this. lt's a must-try for anyone exploring fig notes, IMO. My advice is to try this one, then tell us if you'd prefer something more woody, more fruity, etc.

l own & love this one, especially in summer. As mentioned, it has all of the fig tree in there: leaves, wood, fruit, & a lovely milkiness. lt's just like enjoying the cool shade of a fig tree on a hot summer day. Just perfect, & definitely unisex.
