Default Is John Varvatos - Dark Rebel a safe blind buy?

This one looks to be right up my street, is it as good as it sounds though? Anything controversial? How is the performance?

Thanks in advance for any comments

Is there no possibility for you to sample it first?

Are you generally into tobacco and leather fragrances?

Unfortunately not, I am unaware of any local stores which stock it.

Yes, however I like something a bit 'different' in there as well.

I personally don't think it's a safe blind buy. I like it a lot, but the strong opening may be off-putting for some.

    Have to agree on this.

I bought this blind and I really enjoy it. That said, I would give a word of caution to those who want to blind buy it. The opening is strong and unique. The dry down is really pleasant and doesn't come across to me as rebellious at all. It suffers from the Varvatos curse as concerns longevity, though it has performed slightly better than some other Varvatos fragrances in cooler weather.

I agree with others saying it's not a safe blind buy, just my opinion.

If you enjoy sweet fragrances and can handle top notes that you might not like, I think it's about as safe a blind buy as there can be for this type of scent. There is a bit of a "chemical" quality and I'd guess there is more than a little iso e super in it (which most people probably don't even notice), but there's no typical lavender overload, it's not syrupy/ambery, nor animalic, nor super musky.

Second it. Dark Rebel is either a love it or hate it type scent.

Of course, if you are anything like me, all of the voters saying it isn't safe but that they enjoy it would have my curiosity piqued and be the catalyst to push me to buy. But I'm like that, and the thrill of the blind buy is half of the fun. The lower the risk, the lower the excitement and anticipation.

I don't think so. Just get a small bottle on eBay, they go for under 10 shipped.

Not at all. You may like it but I didn’t. I smell like a 3 pack a day smoker to my nose when I wear it.
