Default Help with rounding out my collection

    Hi All

I have a small fragrance collection that I am looking to expand. However, before I fall any further down this rabbit hole I need some advice. I would like to experience the widest range of scent families and own as broad a range as possible, can you tell me what I'm missing from the below?

    Lalique Encre Noire
    Guerlain L'instant pour homme
    Creed Aventus
    Armani Attitude
    Dior Ambre Nuit
    Creed Green Irish Tweed
    Armani Night
    Yohji Homme
    Tom Ford Ombre Leather

If, by some miracle, I have all the bases covered, where am I most lacking?

How about a prominent oud scent? Maybe check out some of the Montales. By the way, welcome to you Rednax! Enjoy your time here at Basenotes!

You have a pretty diversified collection that covers many bases.

As for something different, a prominent citrus (eg Chanel pour monsieur EDT), or something avantgarde (eg CDG2 man).

Your wardrobe is already complete enough to cover most fragrance basics tastefully and successfully, as well as diversely.

However, if having to add and to recommend a few more fragrance categories, should you like them and have acces to good, efficient, affordable sampling/testing possibilities, would also add to a list for additional (re) testing:

    - at least one boozy fragrance that can range anywhere from AMen Pure Malt and Pure Malt Creation, Lalique l'Insoumis, Aramis Havana to Siwa by Memo Paris,

    - some more vanilla, anywhere from the classics like Caron pour un Homme to modern takes in this note like Eau des Baux or DHI by Dior

    - even if Encre Noire is already there, at least one vetiver, again, the selection is very wide and permissive, ranging from classics like Guerlain Vetiver to more dark and resinous vetivers like TDH Parfum or L'Occitane Vetyver to lighter, fresher, soapier ones like Creed OV, Mugler Cologne, Zara Vetiver Cologne

    - possibly also a (neo) barbershop scent, preferably a modern, trendier take on the classic scent of a traditional barbershop, including but not limited to Sartorial by Penhaligon's, Rive Gauche pour Homme and anything within the Collezione Barbriere toiletries range by Acqua di Parma

    - perhaps more masculine lavender, anything from the aforementioned Caron pour un Homme to fairly recent lavender scents like L'Occitan, Endymion and Ungaro Man Silver could work, deserving some more testing

I'd recommend exploring Amouage, and some fougeres. Maybe also something like Dior Homme Sport, Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche, or Terre d'Hermes Eau Tres Fraiche.

A patchouli fragrance would do good. Patchouli Absolute should do the job.

The one genre that you are missing that I feel you could use is: Barbershop

Below is a list of great barbershop scents. Any or all would be worth sampling:

    Sartorial
    Invasion Barbare
    Masculine Pluriel
    1725
    Rive Gauche
New York Intense (on the outer limits of the barbershop genre, but still...excellent)

Great suggestions already; I think you're lacking a fresh musk:

    Tom Ford Oud Wood
    Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille

Either of these would be a valuable addition.

If you've never tried it, I would recommend sampling Bvlgari Black just for it's unique rubber note. There's nothing else that really compares to it.

Other than that, if there's a particular subset of fragrances you seem to like (oriental, fougere, aquatic, etc.), try going further down that rabbit hole.

Molecule 01 and something maybe boozy but not too heavy.

Also perhaps something spicy like Zadig Voltaire This is Him, or in competely different way, Layton Exlusif.

Interesting and smart way to build a collection to avoid over collecting frags.

I would say that you miss the following categories (I give 2 examples, both good, the first being affordable, the second more expensive)

    - oud (Elie Saab Oud n.4, MFK Oud extrait)
    - musk (Zegna Peruvian Ambrette, Lutens Muscs Koublai Khan)
    - tobacco (Atelier Cologne Tobacco Nuit, Tom Ford Tobacco Oud)
    - iris (VC&A Bois d'Iris, Dior Homme Parfum)
    - green vetiver (Guerlain Vetiver, Zegna Haitian Vetiver)
    - incense (Montale Full Incense, Armani Prive Bois d'Encens)
    - sandalwood (Dyptique Tam Dao, Lutens Santal Majuscule)
    - cedar/woody (Bentley for men Absolute, January Scent Project Burvuvu)
    - rose (Guerlain Santal Royal, MFK Lumiere Noire PH)

Then I can only suggest you get your nose on the following:

    LM Black Oud - musk/oud/incense/animalic
Tiziana Terenzi Laudano Nero - boozy/incense/resin
Amouage Interlude Man - same shelf as TT LN
    Amouage Jubilation XXV - wood/resin/honey
Amouage Epic - a green opening, and oud finish. masterfully blended.
Elie Saab Santal n.8 - sharp apricot-y sandalwood
Dior Fahrenheit - the definition of the violet, starting like gasoline, ending like leather (a masterpiece, but very polarizing)
    Cartier L'Envol EDP- a very balanced violet/iris
Annick Goutal Ambre Fetiche, Armani Prive Myrrhe Imperiale and YSL M7 Oud Absolu - 3 myrrh/resins-centered frags, the latter with a hint of woody notes and patch
